I was approved for food stamps, but they only gave me $41.00

This is the end result when "The Church" surrenders care of the poor to "The State". Nothing good ever happens when we try to take the easy way out. There is tremendous graft and corruption on one end with a trickle of good out the other! Minnesota is just the tip.

I'm not sure "The Church" surrendered care of the poor to "The State". "The State" just kinda took the duty upon itself, without really asking anyone permission.

I pray to God that u get all the help u need ❤️ . Don't give up and certainly don't b embarrassed to ask for help , we all have needed it at some time in our lives , me included .

I go through what I call a Bread Line each week. It's for Veterans. I really appreciate it even though the bread is past its use by or sell by date by the time we get it. I sometimes get a loaf of bread I could never buy myself. When I buy bread it's the store brand and when it's on sale.

When the topic comes up I suggest to people that they take advantage of every program they qualify for. If they're a taxpayer it's their money funding the program(s).

The poor in the United States will probably end up evolving into a completely different discussion as time goes by and those who are secure now become food insecure. In Texas known as "The Cattle State" because of drought year after year we are now forced into feeding Hay and Range Cubes and give them water instead of them eating off the pasture grass. You can do things like that for a few months but not month after month year after year. If you do this year after year your going to end up with steer that are selling for around 2000.00 dollars https://www.facebook.com/groups/1043824415706481/posts/24047698298225767/ and then after feeding them until you take them to auction your at the 3000.00 range for a steer going to the butcher. Then the meat companies have to add their cost to it to pay their people and keep the meat cold and then after that when it goes to the stores it goes up again so they can cover their cost and pay their employees. Most Cattle ranchers see this happening and are minimizing their herd sizes because they cant afford to buy the food(grain,Hay ect.) because the lack of rainfall is making the food cows eat more expensive at the same time and in short supply which drives it's cost up. In the end the only option for cattle ranchers is to reduce their herd size and pray for rain. It takes about 2 acres to raise a cow/calf combination to replace the ones being sold to market but that's if you have good pasture land and good rainfall. If you don't have rain for several consecutive years then the soil becomes worse and worse and those numbers go up so then you may need 10 or 15 acres to grow enough grass on to feed those same 2 cows. So if you have 500 acres your raising cows on you can feed 250 cows but if it does not rain that means you can only feed 50 if your pasture is dry and they have to forage 10 or 15 acres to have enough to eat. So there is a huge reduction of cattle on most ranches because of this over the last several years which is driving up demand because of the shortage and by the time it all gets to the stores your paying 6.00 a pound for HB meat and 20.00 a pound for the premium cuts. Places like Texas are not getting enough rainfall to feed the cows year after year and so those same prices are going to double. No President from either party can make it rain only God can and if the drought continues every last one of you will end up applying for SNAP to be able to get to eat. https://spectrumlocalnews.com/tx/sa...16/texas-losing-cattle-amid-drought-inflation

What makes you think that all of us eat a lot of beef?
And, if "nobody" has any beef because of drought, how would SNAP have it?

I'm not denigrating SNAP, but there are other resources, as mentioned in other posts. I am all for "the government" being able to help people that truly NEED it.... but "needing" it simply because you choose to irresponsibly (or on purpose) conceive and create multiple children that you cannot, or will not, take care of, is NOT true need. CHOOSING to not work, simply because the "gubmint" will support you should disqualify you for benefits.

I got the approval letter today. I did not get $41.00, I only got $23.00 per month. It just enough to buy one 20 pound bag of basmati rice at walmart.

No I'm just a retired old Conservative in Southeast Texas who's children I did work to feed and now that I filed for my Social Security like every other US citizen does at 65-67 by the time they deduct all the different deductions from it me and my wife ended up needing the little 202.00 SNAP a month to scrape up enough to eat to go along with it. It was the big sticker shock everyone is in for where you get a SS letter telling you what you could draw when you do retire that leaves out all the fine details about the deductions they will take from that amount before they put it into your account. It's not near what people think after you end up meeting all the deductibles, fees we pay at the doctors and several other things those retiring on SS end up paying out of that SS check. I know the Social Media does push that walking baby factory idea but nope all my children have grown up moved out and have their own families so it's just two old married people trying to live off the little they have after years of paying into this system. People should really get off the credit kick where they finance everything and get their homes paid off because if they end up with those things not paid off by the time they retire their going to have to figure out how to pay them all on around 1,500.00 a month counting SNAP. My home is paid free and clear but after lights, water and gas, medical expenses and buying food with the cash that's left that 202.00 in SNAP sure helps. Car notes, bank loans and the like are out of the question if someones on SS so people should get everything paid off before they file for Social Security or end up loosing them.

As for the Beef it doesn't make any difference if people decide to eat the other types of meat because pig's,chickens, turkey's all eat the grains that the farmers feed them. If it don't rain and water the corn, wheat, hay, oats and all the other grains that the food supply mankind eats eat those prices will just continue to go up and up just the same for the same reason. At one point it's going to dawn on everyone that cows, chickens and pigs aren't the only creatures that eat those vegetables, grains and other plant's that human beings also do. There is absolutely nothing broken broken in the farming industry that needs to be fixed to solve the problem. If you go on Social Media post and follow what the actual farmers are saying normal rain cycles is the only thing that will help with the problem they are facing trying to grow your food supply. God's the only one who can make it rain and just like when Joseph interpreted the Pharaohs dream about the famine back then some will heed the signs and others will not. Every farmer from the 100th meridian westward has been saying they are going belly up from lack of rain during the growing season and that rain in the winter don't make those summer crops grow. This has nothing to do with politics, mismanagement or anything being broken that can be fixed. Without rain coming in it's correct rainfall patterns the crops and all that eat them will dwindle in numbers year after year just like they already are. Not many pay attention to the farmers and rainfall but fixing whats happening because of drought is about as easy as someone sticking their finger in a volcano and thinking they stopped it from going off.

Brooke Rollins is who was appointed over Agriculture/SNAP by DT and at the moment her and Trump are withholding SNAP funding from most of the Blue states. Not sure which state your in but it may go up after they end the argument. Sorry to hear they reduced yours. https://www.grocerydive.com/news/us...thhold-snap-funding-democratic-states/806862/

my goodness....I was not talking about you at all.... like I said, that is what SNAP is FOR.... people that have no other options... I'm 100% ok with that... our oldest daughter, single mom of our teenage grandgirl lost her job a while back, and couldn't find a comparable job for about 9 months... she didn't qualify for SNAP because she owns her home. She went to the local food bank for basics, and she did DoorDash for extra income, and got a minimum wage job sorting clothes at a resale place... we helped what we could, and she finally got a job .... she tried to pay us back for some of what we had paid for her and we wouldn't let her.... family helps family...

I understand about SS... I've been drawing mine for about 5 years now, and I still am working full time. My wife retired about 8 or 9 years ago, and she's on SS as well. I firmly believe you should take advantage of any program you qualify for.... and I think they need to modify the qualifications to benefit the truly needy... not the welfare mothers....

They was giving me $23 per month but when it came time to renew it was a phone in interview and they wanted fresh copies of certification of income and all that jazz again so I was ready for that! Then I called in at the right time for the phone interview and...they never did answer the phone to interview me so I don't get $23 a month anymore! Too much hassle for too little worth.

I retired in 2006 and my wife in 2008 and we have done just fine on SS and pensions.
We made sure when we worked we worked for a company with good retirement benefits and tried to maximize our income so our SS would be more. This required us to move with the company we worked for several times over 46 years. From Texas to Arkansas, to California, back to Texas, to Tennessee, back to Texas.
We planned for retirement, stayed with the same company through good times and bad times and when the time came our income only decreased about 25%.
People need to plan for the day they can no longer work so they do not have to depend on the government.

I don't know how all those people get to have all those food stamps. I see people coming into dollar general with all food stamps, buying up the whole store when they come. Along with the food they also place all these other things on the counter, things that don't matter. I don't know how they get those food stamps. Yeah I see them buying all this trash along with the food and they have me labeled as incompetent because of my credit card utilization.

I see them buying all these things like paintings, flowers, decorative bowels that have no function. Little boxes that the only thing about it is it says, welcome home. And these things are $5.00- $20.00 each. Then they pay for their order with food stamps and the balance shows over $300.00 USD left.

All they gave me was $41.00 for the whole month.

Dollar General! I was working there running the cash register. I seen them do this thing.

New legislation is no longer going to allow people to sit back with a bag of chips and do nothing but watch tv. The admin has determined that you need to work 80 hrs a wk min to collec6. The comments from those who think we should feed them while they do nothing, are insane.

A person who thinks people who work owe them something, should immediately be taken off the feed line.

If you are in Pennsylvania and on PACE--prescription assistance of those over 65, are auto enrolled in Snap.

You can save up to 6 months of benefits.

Snap Cash is another part

That's another one of the click-bait UTube videos.... NOBODY is required to work 80 hrs a week.
I would be happy to see a requirement to work 30 hours a week to collect.... that's about what people work that are working minimum wage jobs, so that they do not become eligible for benefits.
I would just like to see people have to work SOMETHING in order to get SNAP..... but only IF they are young, able bodied people. Obviously, the disabled and elderly should not have to work..

All of this hinges on the government agencies actually vetting the applicants fairly before approving their application.

Here in Florida its required to be looking for a job, or working. It's always been that way. And those who are not active looking for job get nothing. Also, if they get a job offer they refuse, they lose it.
