Does anyone else get uneasy when setting up life insurance policies
First, howdy and welcome to the forum.

I think it depends on your family, and how much you trust them. Me, I wouldn't care at all. But then I never have set up life insurance for myself.

I do remember this one guy talking about how his parents hated each other. "If y'all hate each other that much, why not just get a divorce?"

"I'm not giving her the satisfaction. I think I can outlast her. State farm pays the winner!"

I had a great policy many years ago, and then I realized I was going to live forever. Cancelled it.

The only time I ever got uneasy about life insurance was when the ex wife, in the very midst of a certain marital activity, stopped moving around, looked me in the eye, and said "I think we need to get some life insurance for you."

True story, notice I referred to her as the ex wife.

Any good policy will cover living benefits, you need insurance not for when you die, for when you get sick ... so you can live before you die and don't deplete all your assets when trying to treat your sickness like cancer, 40% get it and the numbers are only going up due to the crap we eat.

If you're single you don't need life insurance. If you've got plenty of $$, you don't need life insurance. If you've got a family and you're mostly scraping buy month to month, you probably can't afford life insurance, but in that case it's probably a good idea.

The insurance is a hedge against your future earnings. You buy insurance hoping it never pays off but if it does your family is OK.

Why would you have homeowners insurance, health insurance, auto insurance, but no life insurance. That makes absolutely no sense.

One of my mentors, a Medical Doctor, worked in an ER for 10 years. She said that chances are that you'll live longer without insurance.
Why?

Health insurance gives the people the false sense of security in the medical system....so they use it.
Medical treatments are the largest cause of death. That should be in the actuaries by now.
The hospitals don't use more effective and cheaper methods when they can maximize profits covered by insurance.

Life insurance is a temptation to collect earlier than later by the greedy spouse. No life insurance= less temptation.

I can understand why people get it though. It cost me $12,000 out of pocket to bury my Dad. Everybody scammed me, the hospital, the mortician and the graveyard manager.
Death is big business for biggest profits.

I understand insurance pretty well. A lot of people who can afford it don't need it. A lot of people that need it really can't afford it.

Auto insurance is mandatory if you own/drive a vehicle. There's no limit to what medical bills can cost the way our health insurance is setup which makes health insurance nearly mandatory. Damage to your home has a finite figure and is not mandatory. Many feel the need to insure their home. Many can self insure without meaningful damage to their assets if they need to rebuild/replace their own due to a catastrophe.

So, your argument doesn't hold water.

when needing insurance, an accountant, doctor or advisor, always find someone you know or someone you know who knows someone in the business, preferably a Christian. this guarantees trust & the ability to learn all the "tricks-of-the-trade" maneuvers. & no doubt, savings in the decision. fortunately, for my wife & i, her brother & his wife own an insurance outfit so we are all set. blessings to you in the right decision.

Most people take 30 years to pay off a house. The insurance on the home protects you in case of fire, flood, or disaster, that's why the bank will require you to insure it and It's typically the most valuable asset. A life insurance policy covers YOUR future income if you get terminally sick or a permanent disability if you can't take care of yourself. Insurance is to protect those you support, not yourself. Americans are the fattest sickest people on planet earth and need it the most. Chances are you get some debilitating illness way before you die. If you dont make any money, than you don't need insurance. The housewife who does nothing, does NOT need life insurance. The father who is supporting 5 kids better have it.

these statements are without disparagement or mockery. about the americans being the largest & sickest, that's true, no doubt. i have lived in America all my life. they are the laziest also & have the least amount of ambition. &, they rank the lowest in the schools. i actually know of kids passing in grade & high school who can't name the capitol city in the state they live in or spell c-o-n-f-u-s-i-o-n. in 1980, i started noticing that. 1 time, i asked a girl to read the number 2,000,000. she said, "a 2 with 6 zero's after it"! true story. jacko, your direct "in the face'" statements are what is needed sometimes.
