No idea.
Isn't Canada America's hat?
When i visited Montreal, which was very nice by the way, those people lived underground in the winter. The whole time. Like squirrels.
That's why it's so quiet up there.

Not really. I'm from Montreal, born and raised, and while there are plenty of ways to spend time underground, shops, transportation, the whole 9 yards, Quebecers love their winter sports. And I was one of them when I still live there. Montreal is not even what it used to be. When I went there about 9 yrs back, to have my interview to move to the US, I was saddened by how it was no longer as nice as it once was.

Progress? Not so much

You know, to test the sense of humor of the Canadians up there after we saw some black squirrels, i told my cousin and her friend "our squirrels in America are armed with guns". They froze and didn't know what to make of that.
And that's how you break the ice!

But to circle back to this topic i asked Google "ai" this question: What is Bill C9 in Canada? And it said:

Bill C-9 can refer to several different pieces of Canadian legislation, most recently the Combatting Hate Act, tabled in October 2025, which proposes new Criminal Code offences to address hate-motivated crimes and protect access to religious and cultural spaces. Other recent and past Bills named C-9 include those from 2023 amending the Judges Act to reform judicial discipline, a 2021 bill related to the Canada Emergency Rent and Wage Subsidies, and a 2020 bill that amended the Income Tax Act for the same purpose.

Recent Bill C-9 (Combatting Hate Act)
  • Purpose:
To amend the Criminal Code to better protect people and spaces from hate-motivated crimes.
    • Key Measures:
        • Creates a specific hate crime offence and clarifies the legal definition of "hatred".
        • Criminalizes intimidation and obstruction that prevents access to religious, cultural, and other specified places.
        • Prohibits the public display of hate or terrorist symbols intended to promote hatred.

Other notable Bills named C-9
    • Judges Act amendments (2023):
This bill, which received Royal Assent in 2023, reformed the process for reviewing allegations of misconduct against federally appointed judges to make it more efficient and cost-effective.
  • Income Tax Act amendments (2020):
This bill, introduced in 2020, included measures for the Canada Emergency Rent Subsidy and Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy to support businesses during the pandemic.

Sounds like a leftist move to me. This is what the left in USA likes to do.

Wait, American squirrels use guns to break the ice?

Don't asl the big G. Get it from a Canadian, who is also a member of Parliament out in Calgary. She's in the thick of it.

Well, us Quebecers are not likely to freeze. One time, I had a gray squirrel, a black one and a little red one on a feeder I had out back.
Gray squirrels are not ugly like the ones down here. Their faces are rounder and more fur. The black ones are really good looking and big with extra bushy tails.

Don't think leftist or right. There, it is liberal or conservative although I guess the terms can be used inter changeably. Quebec has been bleeding doctors due to new legislation there and has really heavy handed religious laws they just worked up. People were up in arms because of Muslins meeting in front of churches (Que. being the bastion of Catholicism in Canada...but people are more secular now) or other common areas, getting down and doing the Muslim prayer thing.

The Que. gov shut it down, not in a way that would address the actual problem (muslims), but in a sweeping way that hits all beliefs. Cowards.

It is a thought crime bill. It is designed to stop the dissemination of ideas they don't like. It creates vague new crimes. Police can charge you directly without going through a prosecutor. It is designed to criminalize religious thought. It says there is no exception for religious belief. So if your religious thought offends me it could be a crime for you to speak it.

Yes. There are laws in place now to deal with the problems but they are basically ignored. So instead, we'll make laws that whack everyone and praying in public, a crime against humanity. Carney is a failed banker but makes a real good 'decepticon'. He tried to get rid of the opposition but ultimately failed.

I cannot fathom why, after 2 terms of la Trudeau twinkle toes mommy's boy, people did not go the other way. Trudeau's 2nd term was a minority gov but a 3rd party joined up because...well what did they have to loose? That party is basically not able to hold their own and certainly not now. Yes, Canada is the country of equal opportunity political parties. 4 major parties at the moment and a bunch of fringe players.

We do not have representitive voting which explains why most Prime Ministers come from either Quebec or Toronto. The one really good Prime Minister from out west was just too good. Stephen Harper, just prior to baby boy Trudeau. I voted for him before moving down here. I had seen a 'special' on him and his family and there was no way I would ever vote for him. He is somewhat out there. His mother sadly suffered from mental problems.

You should visit Montreal in the summer. It's not sweltering hot. And of course everyone is out of their homes enjoying the beautiful weather. Visit the pier at night. It's really pretty with the lights and some buskers performing or singing.

Just bring a lot of money. Their sales tax rate is so ridiculously high! Oy!

uhhh....really I am not trying to be a know it all, but I do pretty much know it all when it comes to Mtl and Quebec

Every summer, there are periods of very high humidity in Mtl. I am talking the kind where you sweat while doing nothing. Mtl is an Island....

Anyway, Canada as a whole has high sales tax. You can blame PM Mulroney for that. Visit what is called 'Old Montreal' or, if you prefer, Vieux Montréal. Even Montrealers hang out there and not just tourists. Some of the oldest parts date from the 17th C when
Montreal was a French colony/sans les Anglais.

Try Mt. Royal for a great view of the whole city. Enjoy the road winding around the mountain.

The Port of Montreal is part of the St Lawrence Seaway and as such is actually under Federal jurisdiction, but not really a tourist area but pretty interesting.

No I don't work for the tourist industry there. You should try the Laurentian mountains and the Lanaudière area north of Montreal, the first one about a 45 min drive and the other about an hr and a half. Mountains and lakes and huge ski/snowmobiling areas in winter.

An interesting note, the licence plates used to say La Belle Province, meaning the beautiful province (true dat) but when the Parti Quebecois got into power some yrs back, (they tried to have Quebec separate from the rest of Canada) they changed the plates to read Je me Souviens, meaning 'I remember', referring to the battle on the plains of Abraham up in Quebec City (the capital of Quebec) in which the English General Wolfe defeated the French General Marquis de Montcalm. This was waaaaay back in 1759 and Quebec was surrendered to the English; an apparent and lasting burr in the bonnet of the French, hence 'they remember'.

OK prob enough. I'm waxing nostalgic.

Sort of makes the anti-Trump Canadians who Troll here look even more clueless.

It's only going to get worse when they now have a PM that's worse than Trudeau.

Yes, it's been a long time since I have been there. I always wanted to see people skating on the Rideau Canal. Winter is so long you have to find a way to enjoy it. Even if it is just Poutine .

It seems you can't get that great chewy cheese down here that they put on poutines. :( I used to just buy a bag of the stuff sometimes and eat it. cheese curds.

Who are the anti-Trump trolls a trolling? Being anti-Trump does not necessairly make you a troll. I'm not anti-Trump, but I do not give him carte blanche either; I am Canadian so wondering where you think I might fit in? hmmm?

But maybe try to understand this thread is not about Trump. It is about Canada. Did you miss that?
