Receiving the holy ghost is a life changing experience and at the church I went to they asked me if I wanted to receieve the holy ghost but I told them I already did and they replied didi you speak in tongues and I said no they then said then you have not receieved it yet. I wanted to argue that I received him when I was saved but I also knew that I would not be able to convince them otherwise becayse they are steadfast in their beliefs

Now the thing is receiving the holy ghost does not mean you will speak in tongues in fact the only thing that happens for sure is that it changes you. You can feel the power of God when you receieve him but the gifts that come with it are dependent on each person however the spirit of God also can manifest in different ways sometimes a word of knowledge sometimes you begin to prophesy and sometimes yes you can begin speaking in tongues, but this is only possible by his power and many Christians who claim to have it but show no fruits can be lead astray because they do think they have receieved him but love peace and joy are to be in the hearts of those who have

That is the evidence of receiving him love peace and joy the gifts are not the evidence but rather the fruits are But also the key to receiving him is to surrender yourself to God and declaring Jesus as your Lord and savior the laying of hands is also a way to impart him but it is more often the case that laying of hands is done for empowering what is already there inside you

So in conclusion the receiving of the holy spirit is about the fruits that it brings forth it is about surrender and making Jesus your Lord and it is about love above all else

The serious flaw with Pentecostal theology. Believing one must speak in tongues to have received the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit. They are so very wrong. The Apostle Paul even said that tongues was the lesser of the Gifts.

Receiving the Holy Spirit is accomplished when a new believer has the hands of Sanctified believers lay hands on them and pray over them as shown in Scripture spoken by the Apostle Paul.

The majority of what occurs in congregations today regarding speaking in tongues is just gibberish! The Holy Spirit has nothing to do with it! Speaking in tongues (other languages) IS a gift of the Holy Spirit, but the stuff that goes on these days IS NOT!

Tongues is simply OTHER LANGUAGES that the person does not know as shown in Scripture at Pentecost.

Yeah now that you mention it that makes sense they were speaking other languages but you could tell it was not real they wanted me to do it today but I declined because I simply do not speak in tongues.

They do not think I have the holy spirit in me because of this....

Tell them you want the greater gifts of prophecy and word of knowledge and would they please pray for you to receive them. Maybe they'll quit nagging you

Well I don't know about word of knowledge but I do operate in the gift of prophecy, but I don't think they will listen to me on that they are pretty set on tongues because they believe it is the evidence of the spirit in you and I asked the pastor today where in scripture it says that and he said in every instance of the apostles or those following Christ they spoke in tongues and he mentioned how it isn't specifically in scripture but the instances of it happening are why they believe in it.

Basically they go by that not by what the word actually says

@Blain Some people can see the holy spirit inside the person. They look at inside you and see him.
They also can see the devils.

True some people have the gift of discerning spirits, nice to see you again buddy how have you been?

I have been well. Things have been looking better in near future here, in the coming months.

When I say they can see them, they really can. I was gifted for a moment to see too, and did see it.

How are you? did you get place to live?

I can usually sense if one has the spirit in them or say I walk into a room I can tell if he is there or if one has a demon or say that a demon is in that place I can sense them but seeing? no I do not see them persay at least not in them but if they are in the room with us then I can usually see them.
