And so it begins...
Oh yeah, tons of people are fleeing Scandinavian countries and coming to America since they don't like socialized medicine and subsidized education.I am literally nauseous when I think about how so many people embrace Communism/Socialism.
A true testament of Scripture, and the entire Book of Ecclesiastes. The Human heart can NEVER be satisfied.
99.9999% of Americans have NEVER known true hunger and poverty. Full stop. No, I'll elaborate.
They live better than 90% of the people on Earth today, and virtually 100% of all people in history.
Our spectacular Capitalism, governed by our incredible Constitution, has given the poorest of us ALL our earthly needs, and unbelievable number of earthly wants.
Food, Shelter, AC, Heat, Schooling, Clothing, expedient Health Care, OPPORTUNITY, and MUUUUCH more!
But because these complainers and grumblers see that some other guy has more than they, they want to destroy the whole system that gave them all that plenty.
It's disgusting and I abhor that mentality with every fiber of my Being.
I have been to some of these Socialistic hellholes, and I GUARANTEE these foolish people would be crying in about 2 days to get back to the USA and Capitalism. Why do they think EVERYONE wants to come here!?
All you have to do is talk to a FIRST generation LEGAL immigrant, and they'll set these entitled ignorami straight!
Oh yeah, tons of people are fleeing Scandinavian countries and coming to America since they don't like socialized medicine and subsidized education.![]()
All of my experience with socialized medicine has been better than my experience in the US. I was in the UK when I broke my leg and I was in Taiwan when I got cancer. They did a biopsy the same day they suspected it might be cancer and then when it came back confirming that it was malignant they did an operation the same day again.Socialized medicine is poor medicine. Unless you're young and healthy, and even at that it's horrible medicine. Ask Canada. Someone willing to tell the truth though.

They did a biopsy the same day they suspected it might be cancer and then when it came back confirming that it was malignant they did an operation the same day again.
So I cannot say that socialized medicine is poor medicine, all of my experiences have been as good if not better than my experiences in the US.
I would say that Taiwan's medical care was very good. Then it's better where you have been than in Canada.

My experience in the UK was in the 1970s so things may have gotten a lot worse, but I don't remember having any long wait at all.I'm glad, but you got lucky. Some areas are better than others. In the UK, your singular experience is not an indicator of the whole.
The whole nation knows that the health service is in deep crisis. The family doctor is harder than ever to see. Waits for hospital appointments are too often measured in years, not days and weeks. Each year tens of thousands of people wait more than 24 hours to be admitted to hospital from the emergency department. link
Statistics show of those patients, more than 1,000 patients waited longer than three days, often spending much of that time on a trolley in the corridor. The Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM) has warned that nationally, the situation could be costing thousands of lives. Colin Gray was one of those patients. The 80-year-old spent 40 hours in A&E at Arrowe Park Hospital in Wirral after arriving by ambulance on 30 December with heart problems. link
In England, NHS cancer patients may have to wait up to five years to receive treatment. This has been revealed after the cancer support charity, Macmillan, warned that it will take until September 2027 to clear the backlog. link
The NHS is under extreme strain and many people are going without the care they need. In July 2023, the waiting list for routine hospital treatment in England had grown to nearly 7.7 million – an all-time high – with almost 390,000 people waiting more than a year. Grim data on access to hospital care reflect pressures right across the system – in general practice, community services, mental health, social care: everywhere. These pressures are causing unnecessary pain and suffering for people and their families, as well as severe strain on staff. link
Stroke and heart attack patients wait more than a day for ambulances, new figures reveal. Patients needing urgent treatment for life-threatening illness such as strokes or heart attacks waited more than 24 hours for an ambulance response, new figures show. New data shows the crisis facing NHS ambulance services resulted in every region missing vital NHS targets to respond to some of the most critically unwell patients last year. link
The seven-year wait for a dentist: why Linda Colla pulled out her own teeth. Thirteen million people in England – 28% of the adult population – have an unmet need for dentistry, according to an analysis in July by the British Dental Association (BDA). That includes 5.6 million people who tried and failed to get an appointment in the past two years; 5.4 million who didn’t try because they thought they wouldn’t get one; and 1.25 million who were put off by the cost. The number of people on waiting lists for an NHS dentist is estimated to be about 780,000." link
The above isn't new, and it's only a fraction of the problems faced. The NHS is always in crisis, underfunded, and understaffed. For many, it's a death sentence. Other countries face the same or worse. When you put the government in control of people's healthcare, the public is subsequently at the mercy of the government, as well.
My experience in the UK was in the 1970s so things may have gotten a lot worse, but I don't remember having any long wait at all.
Ah. Well, 1970-something was indeed a long time ago. God help us if socialized medicine is forced here. A few countries have been successful, but they're smaller in comparison and have completely different structures and resources from the U.S.
i got health insurance from a company for this year that said a lot of medical facilities in my area took.
when i called and asked , they actually did not take it.
this is most likely what socialized medicine would be in this country.
looked good until you had to use it...
yes, sadly , it would look a lot like that.It would look like what a lot of other countries are facing: years-long waits for appointments and surgeries, lack of hospitals, doctors, dentists, and ambulance services all while pouring billions of tax dollars into it.
It is like any dictator, on paper it can look great, the problem is you put too much power into the hands of too few. If those people are great then the outcome will be great, but eventually you will have crooks and then the outcome is horrible.Ah. Well, 1970-something was indeed a long time ago. God help us if socialized medicine is forced here. A few countries have been successful, but they're smaller in comparison and have completely different structures and resources from the U.S.
Interestingly I have been running several scenarios into the AI the past few days about generational overthrow. The AI estimates that actually your generation, Gen X, will outmanuever the Millennials and Gen Z and come to power but that basically their rule will be even worse than the Boomers.
I hope you realize that "AI" is a cool marketing term invented by people of my generation in order to make some sales.
Because a program has no intelligence (like we do) and it's 'garbage in and garbage out'.
It's basically searching the web on the equivalent of an automatic car, as opposed to driving manual (like we used to do with search terms in the 90-00 era) and it's programmed to give you human-like responses.
But these are the people who leave default passwords on a lot of stuff (as we saw in the Louvre) and these are the idiots who leave the passwords of 100+ million people on unencrypted text files so they can make signing in less cumbersome because the people don't want to drive manual anymore.
But as you may know, people of my generation are usually very private, wanna be left alone, and have seen a lot of changes in their lifetime and have learned a lot by experience, not books. The whole latchkey kids of the 90s basically.
So with this mindset a lot of people of my generation wanna retire in peace while we make way for the new generation.
But i also realize that making future plans like that are useless, because we may have plans but then God has plans to remind you not to think so highly of yourself with your retirement plans.![]()
AI was able to take games with rules like Go and Chess and master them, creating new strategies, and beating the best players in the world. Now most jobs also have rules and do not require the high level thinking and strategy that Chess and Go require. Therefore it is reasonable to think that AI can do these jobs. This probably refers to 80% of the jobs in the world. I think 100 random people would be hard pressed to prove that AI could not do at least 80% of their job.I hope you realize that "AI" is a cool marketing term invented by people of my generation in order to make some sales.
