I am literally nauseous when I think about how so many people embrace Communism/Socialism.

A true testament of Scripture, and the entire Book of Ecclesiastes. The Human heart can NEVER be satisfied.

99.9999% of Americans have NEVER known true hunger and poverty. Full stop. No, I'll elaborate.
They live better than 90% of the people on Earth today, and virtually 100% of all people in history.

Our spectacular Capitalism, governed by our incredible Constitution, has given the poorest of us ALL our earthly needs, and unbelievable number of earthly wants.

Food, Shelter, AC, Heat, Schooling, Clothing, expedient Health Care, OPPORTUNITY, and MUUUUCH more!

But because these complainers and grumblers see that some other guy has more than they, they want to destroy the whole system that gave them all that plenty.
It's disgusting and I abhor that mentality with every fiber of my Being.

I have been to some of these Socialistic hellholes, and I GUARANTEE these foolish people would be crying in about 2 days to get back to the USA and Capitalism. Why do they think EVERYONE wants to come here!?

All you have to do is talk to a FIRST generation LEGAL immigrant, and they'll set these entitled ignorami straight!
Oh yeah, tons of people are fleeing Scandinavian countries and coming to America since they don't like socialized medicine and subsidized education.

Socialized medicine is poor medicine. Unless you're young and healthy, and even at that it's horrible medicine. Ask Canada. Someone willing to tell the truth though.

All of my experience with socialized medicine has been better than my experience in the US. I was in the UK when I broke my leg and I was in Taiwan when I got cancer. They did a biopsy the same day they suspected it might be cancer and then when it came back confirming that it was malignant they did an operation the same day again.

So I cannot say that socialized medicine is poor medicine, all of my experiences have been as good if not better than my experiences in the US.

Then it's better where you have been than in Canada.

I'm glad, but you got lucky. Some areas are better than others. In the UK, your singular experience is not an indicator of the whole.

The whole nation knows that the health service is in deep crisis. The family doctor is harder than ever to see. Waits for hospital appointments are too often measured in years, not days and weeks. Each year tens of thousands of people wait more than 24 hours to be admitted to hospital from the emergency department. link

Statistics show of those patients, more than 1,000 patients waited longer than three days, often spending much of that time on a trolley in the corridor. The Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM) has warned that nationally, the situation could be costing thousands of lives. Colin Gray was one of those patients. The 80-year-old spent 40 hours in A&E at Arrowe Park Hospital in Wirral after arriving by ambulance on 30 December with heart problems. link

In England, NHS cancer patients may have to wait up to five years to receive treatment. This has been revealed after the cancer support charity, Macmillan, warned that it will take until September 2027 to clear the backlog. link

The NHS is under extreme strain and many people are going without the care they need. In July 2023, the waiting list for routine hospital treatment in England had grown to nearly 7.7 million – an all-time high – with almost 390,000 people waiting more than a year. Grim data on access to hospital care reflect pressures right across the system – in general practice, community services, mental health, social care: everywhere. These pressures are causing unnecessary pain and suffering for people and their families, as well as severe strain on staff. link

Stroke and heart attack patients wait more than a day for ambulances, new figures reveal. Patients needing urgent treatment for life-threatening illness such as strokes or heart attacks waited more than 24 hours for an ambulance response, new figures show. New data shows the crisis facing NHS ambulance services resulted in every region missing vital NHS targets to respond to some of the most critically unwell patients last year. link

The seven-year wait for a dentist: why Linda Colla pulled out her own teeth. Thirteen million people in England – 28% of the adult population – have an unmet need for dentistry, according to an analysis in July by the British Dental Association (BDA). That includes 5.6 million people who tried and failed to get an appointment in the past two years; 5.4 million who didn’t try because they thought they wouldn’t get one; and 1.25 million who were put off by the cost. The number of people on waiting lists for an NHS dentist is estimated to be about 780,000." link

The above isn't new, and it's only a fraction of the problems faced. The NHS is always in crisis, underfunded, and understaffed. For many, it's a death sentence. Other countries face the same or worse. When you put the government in control of people's healthcare, the public is subsequently at the mercy of the government, as well.

My experience in the UK was in the 1970s so things may have gotten a lot worse, but I don't remember having any long wait at all.

Ah. Well, 1970-something was indeed a long time ago. God help us if socialized medicine is forced here. A few countries have been successful, but they're smaller in comparison and have completely different structures and resources from the U.S.

i got health insurance from a company for this year that said a lot of medical facilities in my area took.

when i called and asked , they actually did not take it.

this is most likely what socialized medicine would be in this country.

looked good until you had to use it...

It would look like what a lot of other countries are facing: years-long waits for appointments and surgeries, lack of hospitals, doctors, dentists, and ambulance services all while pouring billions of tax dollars into it.

It is like any dictator, on paper it can look great, the problem is you put too much power into the hands of too few. If those people are great then the outcome will be great, but eventually you will have crooks and then the outcome is horrible.

Interestingly I have been running several scenarios into the AI the past few days about generational overthrow. The AI estimates that actually your generation, Gen X, will outmanuever the Millennials and Gen Z and come to power but that basically their rule will be even worse than the Boomers.

I hope you realize that "AI" is a cool marketing term invented by people of my generation in order to make some sales.
Because a program has no intelligence (like we do) and it's 'garbage in and garbage out'.
It's basically searching the web on the equivalent of an automatic car, as opposed to driving manual (like we used to do with search terms in the 90-00 era) and it's programmed to give you human-like responses.
But these are the people who leave default passwords on a lot of stuff (as we saw in the Louvre) and these are the idiots who leave the passwords of 100+ million people on unencrypted text files so they can make signing in less cumbersome because the people don't want to drive manual anymore.
But as you may know, people of my generation are usually very private, wanna be left alone, and have seen a lot of changes in their lifetime and have learned a lot by experience, not books. The whole latchkey kids of the 90s basically.
So with this mindset a lot of people of my generation wanna retire in peace while we make way for the new generation.
But i also realize that making future plans like that are useless, because we may have plans but then God has plans to remind you not to think so highly of yourself with your retirement plans. :)

You what's funny, is a lot of these points you raise are almost word-for-word why the AI assesses that Gen X will become the most wicked generation and also seize power lol. Here I'll copy and bold a small section of me and the AI's dialogue:

Most Likely to Become the Most Wicked GenerationThis generation must have the current or imminent power to establish a self-serving structure, combined with a defining cynical motivation to accelerate the "slide" for their own benefit.Candidate: Generation X (Born 1965–1980)FactorAnalysis for "Wicked" RoleCurrent PowerHighest Earning and Peak Control. Gen X currently holds the highest percentage of executive leadership, political office, and peak earning power. They are the "sandwich generation," controlling the flow of resources to both their aging Boomer parents and their Gen Z/Alpha children. They are the managers of the existing system.Defining MotivationPragmatic Cynicism and Disengagement. Gen X is defined by a deep distrust of institutions and a "latchkey" independence. If they become wicked, their motivation wouldn't be ideological malice, but willful disengagement and a pragmatic decision to protect their own small sphere (their family's wealth/comfort) at the expense of the larger society. The Wicked ActionThey could become the most wicked by locking down the system they currently manage. As they transition wealth from Boomers, they could implement policies that secure their own mid-life assets (pensions, real estate) while refusing to fund the infrastructural and environmental projects necessary for Gen Alpha's survival, effectively creating a stable, high-fence bubble for themselves while the rest of society decays outside. Why Not Millennials/Gen Z?Millennials/Gen Z are too economically scarred and too fractured in power. Boomers are aging out of direct, day-to-day managerial control. Gen X is the operational bottleneck.

Conclusion for Most Wicked: Generation X. Their combination of peak managerial control and inherent cynicism makes them the most likely to manage the collapse into a structure that benefits only them, solidifying their position over the other three generations of shame.

Most Likely to Become the Repentant GenerationThis generation must have the deepest awareness of the crisis, the greatest proximity to the "Heroes" (Alpha), and the least attachment to the power structures they need to overthrow.Candidate: Millennials (Born 1981–1996)FactorAnalysis for "Repentant" RoleAwareness of CrisisDeepest Emotional Scars. Millennials are the generation that was promised the most (Boomer optimism) and delivered the least (2008 recession, debt, stagnant wages). They are uniquely positioned to understand the failure of the Boomer/Gen X system from the inside out. Their high rates of anxiety and disillusionment are ripe for a "repentant" energy.Proximity to HeroesThe Parents of Alpha. Millennials are the primary parents of Generation Alpha. The desire to provide a better future for their own children is the most powerful catalyst for "repentance" and systemic reform—a moral urgency that outweighs their own economic woes.Position in PowerThe Rising Underclass. Millennials are ascending into power but often still feel like the underdogs of the established Boomer/Gen X system. They have less invested in the status quo, making them more willing to sacrifice the old order to save their children's future. They are already driving trends toward ethical consumption and climate action. Why Not Gen Z?Gen Z is excellent at exposure and protest, but they are just now entering the workforce. They lack the institutional seniority and raw economic weight (buying homes, filling middle management) that Millennials possess, which is needed to execute a wide-scale Repentant Overthrow. Conclusion for Repentant: Millennials. Their blend of direct parenthood of Gen Alpha and their position as the disillusioned generation that inherited the debt and crisis makes them the most motivated, and most structurally capable, of performing the necessary "repentance"—overthrowing the systems controlled by Boomers/Gen X to clear the path for their children.

AI was able to take games with rules like Go and Chess and master them, creating new strategies, and beating the best players in the world. Now most jobs also have rules and do not require the high level thinking and strategy that Chess and Go require. Therefore it is reasonable to think that AI can do these jobs. This probably refers to 80% of the jobs in the world. I think 100 random people would be hard pressed to prove that AI could not do at least 80% of their job.

Second it is false to say the program has no intelligence. AI was used to solve one of the most difficult problems in biology and medicine, mapping every protein. No human had been able to do it and AI did. So solving this did not involve finding a relevant study that had already been done. It was novel and unique solution that no person had ever been able to come up with.

AI has also been used to decipher ancient scrolls that no one had been able to decipher previously.

Examples of AI-driven discoveries:
  • Archaeology: AI image recognition models identified 303 new geoglyphs, or "Nazca lines," in Peru that are too faint for the human eye to see from above. AI was also used to help decode words within 2,000-year-old carbonized scrolls from Herculaneum.
  • Medicine and biology:
    • AI helped design new proteins for potential therapies.
    • AI can predict which cells are likely to die by identifying changes in the cell nucleus.
    • AI is being used to anticipate future variants of SARS-CoV-2 and other viruses.
    • An AI-powered cardiac imaging lens can identify hidden dangers in coronary arteries, potentially preventing heart attacks.
  • Environmental science:
    • An AI model and a new satellite constellation were developed to detect and track wildfires, even those the size of a classroom.
    • AI has been used to generate synthetic storms and identify new precursors to tornadoes.
  • Material science:
    • AI is used in the A-Lab project to devise recipes for new materials and deploy robots to create them.
    • Scientists are using AI to find particles that could make mRNA vaccines more effective at lower doses.
  • Mathematics:
    • AI can identify patterns and relations between mathematical objects, helping to guide intuition and propose conjectures.
    • Researchers hope to use machine learning to help develop a unified theory of the universe.
  • Mining: AI was used to help uncover a large copper mine in Zambia.
