I was wondering if this forum can have a no expiry on the 'Edit' option because sometimes I want to edit my post when I see a spelling error but especially if it's a post I regret posting or felt God was saying it is better to delete what you have written... Thanks for considering.

The five minute edit window is not likely to be changed. The best remedy for avoiding errors
is to carefully proof read. Even so, we all make mistakes, and this is not normally a problem.
Regret over posting something is a lesson to be learned. Mod prefers people learn this lesson.

If you post something and immediately notice too many errors to correct within the five minute
edit window, you can always delete your post. In that case it may be best to copy what you have
written, so you do not have to start from the beginning again. If you toggle off the BB code it will
copy all the html font effects and any possible hidden hot links also. Otherwise the coding gets lost.

I learned quickly after saying something stupid. it is better to apologize later than to just pretend it never happened.(AkA deleting or editing. the 5 minute edit window is pretty good, as you can add something, (like I did) instead of creating a whole new post.(like that s a really hard or something. It would be nice to consistently be abllet to save if the editing takes longer than 5 minutes though. overall, though, I am not complaining, it's not really important, and the mods her do a great job.)(maybe better to make that a new post tho as I got off topic a bit)

This has been suggested before but I doubt it will ever happen. It would be nice though if the time limit was increased to 10 or 15 minutes, if that's possible.

I see, okay if it will not be changed but just to let you know, I feel sometimes you can't predict what you shouldn't have written so I don't think it's really a lesson to be learned issue.

Howdy and welcome to the forum.

The five minute edit time was put in place for people who like to argue and change their posts a lot in the argument.
A says something.
B replies to A.
A changes his post, to make it look like B is either lying or crazy.
A and B get into a whole other argument about what A really said.

In a perfect world we would not need the five minute time limit, but... People, y'know.

So yeah, it's cumbrous, but it's better than not having it. It does pose inconvenience sometimes for the rest of us though.

If you made a post and REALLY regret it later you can always report it (button at the bottom right of the post) and put a delete request in the "reason for reporting" box. Admin will see it. He might not delete it though, if it ruins context for subsequent posts. And it might be a while before he sees it, as the Admin is an unpaid volunteer who has a job and family and stuff. But it's worth a shot in an extreme.

Is there evidence for this? I thought it was just to preserve the integrity and context of a conversation in a thread.
happens sometimes in the 5 minute window. is frustrating.

It used to happen a lot back in the day. It was VERY annoying. If you didn't have screenshots you couldn't prove he said that very insulting and worthy-of-banning thing you just saw him post-and-change.
I was more wondering about the "people who like to argue" angle. Preserving the integrity and context is a given...

They were the ones who went back and changed their posts the most.

Though there WERE a few times where it was done all in good fun, in some threads where "The Banter Is Strong With This One." I still thought it was mildly annoying, but not enough to raise a fuss about. And some people seemed to get a kick out of it.

But yeah, the hardcore debaters and trolls used that trick the most.

I recently made a post in a fun thread.
I couldn't find the gif I wanted so settled for something else and posted.
THEN within the first minute I found the one I wanted and did an edit...
only thing was someone replied as I was fixing it and their reply shows the gif I deleted instead of the one I replaced it with

*side note: As I was quickly proof reading through this I noticed at least 6 errors  that would've been embarrassing to post (I can't spell today and it would've shown  and no, 5 minutes wouldn't have been enough time to fix it)

Thanks for explaining this I just post something and I double responded and it looks so visually cringey haha. I know that’s such a 1st world problem but I was wondering why the website froze and then it wouldn’t let me edit it, thought I was going through spiritual warfare 🤣

Thanks for clarifying this with the reasoning behind it, makes sense. I appreciate all the hard work the admin and other people who help manage the code did, the forum is excellent!

Yeah, that's one downside. This forum is a big target for troublemakers trying to bombard it - christian haters, y'know - so they have to go through CloudFlare for defense. So sometimes there's a bit of freezing, and you wind up posting the same thing twice, thinking it didn't post the first time. And when the forum FINALLY gets back online fully, you find it has double posted and there's no way to even delete one of them.

Sorry about that. But at least you're not alone. We all do it occasionally. ;)

What if you edit/change your post after SO many people have replied to your original post. You see what problem that would bring about? I mean if you're allowed to change your post, then those that responded to what you originally wrote may now need to edit or change Their post also now.
