Well, I will not say you seem hyper-judgmental until I see how you answer the rest of the question about all types of secular activities. Do you live in a convent and meditate on GW 24-7 or what?
We have been given the ability to choose righteousness or sin. As God's sons, we should use our redeemed minds on holy things.
No, we are not yet perfect, but what we are in Christ, we are expected to use it to behave like God's sons & stay away from worldly things that don't help us live for Him. Sure we mess up, but we're not to do such on purpose to reminisce of former sinful times.

Remember the question: Do you not participate in any type of secular activity?
Do you live in a convent and meditate on GW 24-7 or what?

This is a serious question that deserves a thoughtful answer. You have seen that mine is that
I view various activities, including games, hobbies, music, etc., as permissible as long as they
do not contradict moral values. What is your opinion about this? Do you think these activities
are "worldly things that don't help us live for Him"? If so, what do you do all day?

What I can't believe is that you think secular music has no evil in it. Either that, or you just let it slide right on by.

What I can't believe is that you think secular music has no evil in it. Either that, or you just let it slide right on by.

I am glad you cannot believe that! I encourage you to read this thread from the beginning and discern GW manifested in secular music.

Regarding my discernment I have shared/confessed that there have been some songs that I let slide for awhile because I liked the
music, but eventually I realized that the lyrics crossed the line and were indeed evil for advocating immoral behavior. One example is Rod Stewart's song, "Tonight's the Night", which I finally deleted from my Ipod. Is there ANY secular music you think is okay?

But the broader question is how discernment should be exercised regarding activities other than music, which you have not addressed.
For example, most types of recreation including sports seem permissible unless they interfere with learning GW, but not gambling,
which wastes money that should be spent on family and charity. Do you approve of anything other than praying and reading the Bible?

I am glad you cannot believe that! I encourage you to read this thread from the beginning and discern GW manifested in secular music.
If ther is it's Satans way of using enough to draw you in. So then you look for it, & go through how much garbage to find a tidbit. All Satan is pleased you're through it to be constantly tempted to listen anyway.
Stay in his area long enough, & he will get you.
Searching thru a garbage can for a tidbit is a problem when you won't search thru christian music for spiritual accuracy.

If you don’t want to answer the questions, please just say so. Why should the devil have all the fun?

Well, as I said, I am running out of secular songs with biblical nuggets, so I will make Edify happy
by sharing three oldies from my repertoire on the theme of love, which can be combined in a medley.
(I guess I won't bother deleting the chords, although they are not above the right words.)

Father, I Adore You

[*] [F g C F]* (etc.)
1. Father, I adore You, Lay my life before You. How I love You!

2. Jesus, I adore You, ….

3. Spirit, I adore You, ….

4. [Sing as a round.]

Love, Love…

[e b] e b e b e b e b (etc.)
//Love, love, love, love. The gospel in a word is love.//

1. Love your brother as yourself. God is love. (repeat //)

2. Love your neighbor as your brother. God is love. (repeat //)

3. Love your enemy as your neighbor. God is love. Love, love, love.

God is Love

[G7]C /E F/A G/B e/g#
1. God is love; God is light. God is faithful day and night.
a/c# d/f#
He is eternal; He never changes,
G/B G7/B7 C/E (etc.)
though the seas rise up to swallow mountain ranges.

2. God is interested in you and me, wanting us to be the best we can be.
We’re not perfect, living the way we do,
But He knows just what we’re going through.

3. (Repeat verse 1)

Anybody else know these?

Another oldie song from my repertoire (with out of place chords) for any guitar strummers out there (3rd verse mine):

There’s a Quiet Understanding

[E] E B c# g#
1. There’s a quiet understanding when we’re gathered in the Spirit,
A E f# f#7 B B7
It’s a promise that He gives us, when we gather in His name.
E B c# g#
There’s a love we feel in Jesus; there’s a manna that He feeds us;
A E f# B B7 E (etc.)
It’s a promise that He gives us, when we gather in His name.

2. And we know when we’re together, sharing love and understanding,
That our brothers and our sisters feel the oneness that He brings.
So we praise and thank you, Jesus, for the way you love and feed us,
For the many ways you lead us, Thank you, thank you, Lord.

3. God sent Jesus as Messiah to bring peace to all the nations,
Jesus prayed that we would be one and that unity would reign.
Let us therefore strive for peace, harmony, love and forgiveness
In the power of the Spirit, living in us all,
Who praise and thank you, Lord. (A E)

A great song from 1986 by Russ Taff, "I'm Not Alone":

Sometimes it feels like I'm out here pushing
Banging my head against the wall
And I wonder where you are
I'm so alone
It all seems so ordinary
Just marking time without reason
It's so hard to be here feeling all alone

Chorus:
But when I close my eyes
I know you are here, near me again
And when I close my eyes
You feel the prayer I breathe
I hear you say my name
I'm not alone

I see the problem very clearly
It's a tug-of-war in my soul
Between choosing to believe
Or feeling alone
My heart is telling me not to worry
But my head isn't yielding
It insists on feeling left all alone.

(repeat chorus)

A song by Amy Grant released in 1985:

Everywhere I Go

I was wasting time, Oh so sure to find somebody
Who'll never go, How could I know
None I'd found was true, None could be but you
The only one love divine, My heart, my mind are yours.

(Chorus) Everywhere I go, I see your face through the crowd
Everywhere I go, I hear your voice clear and loud
Everywhere I go, You are the light that I seek
Everywhere I go, You have found me.

Where could my heart go, Where you wouldn't know to find me?
Far, far from here, Still you are near to me.

(Chorus)

I have seen you in the evening, In the morning light you hold me
Closer than the air around me, You surround me always.

(Chorus)

I didn't go over the 9 pages to see if someone already posted these lyrics, so I apologize if it's already here. But this song has always been deemed Christian in the masses even though the band clarified over and over again that it is not. Great lyrics though and it is about fatherhood. It reminds me of a testimony I heard, an atheist guy's wife was going into labor, he got extremely anxious and worried that things might go wrong, for the first time in his life he looked up and said, if there's a God, please let my wife and baby be ok. He felt God's love and immediately believed, isn't that amazing?
Arms wide open, Creed 1999

Well, I just heard the news today
It seems my life is goin' to change
I closed my eyes, begin to pray
Then tears of joy stream down my face
With arms wide open under the sunlight
Welcome to this place, I'll show you everything
With arms wide open
With arms wide open
Well, I don't know if I'm ready
To be the man I have to be
I'll take a breath, I'll take her by my side
We stand in awe, we've created life
With arms wide open under the sunlight
Welcome to this place, I'll show you everything
With arms wide open, now everything has changed
I'll show you love, I'll show you everything
With arms wide open
With arms wide open
I'll show you everything, oh yeah
With arms wide open
Wide open
If I had just one wish, only one demand
I hope he's not like me, I hope he understands
That he can take this life and hold it by the hand
And he can greet the world with arms wide open
With arms wide open under the sunlight
Welcome to this place, I'll show you everything
With arms wide open, now everything has changed
I'll show you love, I'll show you everything
With arms wide open
With arms wide open
I'll show you everything, oh yeah
With arms wide open

This thread is for this type of song. I found this on Wikipedia about Creed:

In an article in the Washington Post in 1999:

The biblical imagery of singer Scott Stapp's lyrics got Creed typed as Christian rock by early listeners, and the band's denial of any religious objective has unsettled some of its more fervent fans. "We are not a Christian band," Stapp insists on the band's website. "A Christian band has an agenda to lead others to believe in their specific religious beliefs. We have no agenda!"

In an interview by band lyricist Stapp in 2022:

I knew I couldn't live the life that someone who was a Christian artist was supposed to live. So Creed was not a Christian band. [...] They didn't want to live with that pressure. And that burden that was not something they signed up for. They signed up to be in a rock and roll band and everything that came with it. [...] I went to the complete polar opposite of what a preacher is, but still, in my writings, could not escape what I knew was right or what I felt was right, and that is to point people to God, to point people to something greater, to point people to a spiritual life in a spiritual realm, which I knew was real, which I had felt as a child, and I've felt on stage thousands of times and continued to, to this day.

It is sad/tragic when folks affirm godly/Christian values but do not give God/Christ the credit/glory.

Solomon's Song of Songs seems to be comparable to modern secular songs that are about romantic love or other topics.
Here is chapter one:

{{{Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth--for your love is more delightful than wine,
Pleasing is the fragrance of your perfumes; your name is like perfume poured out.
No wonder the maidens love you! Take me away with you--let us hurry!
The king has brought me into his chambers.

We rejoice and delight in you; we will praise your love more than wine.

How right they are to adore you! Dark am I, yet lovely, O daughters of Jerusalem,
dark like the tents of Kedar, like the tent curtains of Solomon.
Do not stare at me because I am dark, because I am darkened by the sun.
My mother's sons were angry with me and made me take care of the vineyards;
my own vineyard I have neglected.

Tell me, you whom I love, where you graze your flock
and where you rest your sheep at midday.
Why should I be like a veiled woman beside the flocks of your friends?

If you do not know, most beautiful of women, follow the tracks of the sheep
and graze your young goats by the tents of the shepherds.
I liken you, my darling, to a mare harnessed to one of the chariots of Pharaoh.
Your cheeks are beautiful with earrings, your neck with strings of jewels.
We will make you earrings of gold, studded with silver.

While the king was at his table, my perfume spread its fragrance.
My lover is to me a sachet of myrrh resting between my breasts.
My lover is to me a cluster of henna blossoms from the vineyards of En Gedi.

How beautiful you are, my darling! Oh how beautiful! Your eyes are doves.

How handsome you are, my lover! Oh how charming! And our bed is verdant.

The beams of our house are cedars; our rafters are firs.}}}

If it is okay for this to be in the Bible, then I guess it is okay to listen to the Beach Boys!

I just hear about this song but have not yet heard the song:

"God's Got My Back" by Forrest Frank

God's got my back (hm)
Even when I fall or get attacked
God's got my back
Even when I'm low and full of lack
God's got my back
Even when my soul is full of sorrow
I don't have to worry about tomorrow
Why's that?

'Cause God's got my-
Back, back, back, right there, never left
I could feel Your presence in every single breath
Sometimes we just gotta take a rest (rest)
Flowers like to bloom in the season that is best
Oh, Your way is better, You make no mistakes
Even when my life is on rollerskates
I won't fear no past
My path, I'll just keep moving straight (straight, straight, straight)

'Cause God's got my back (hmm)
Even when I fall or get attacked
God's got my back (God's got my back)
Even when I'm low and full of lack
God's got my back (God's got my back)
Even when my soul is full of sorrow
I don't have to worry about tomorrow
Why's that?

'Cause God's got my-
Life inside of His hands
Favor on all my plans
A roof to keep away the rain
And blessings that outweigh the pain
Oh, Your way is better, You make no mistakes
Even when my life is on rollerskates
I won't fear no past
My path, I'll just keep moving straight (straight, straight, straight)

'Cause God's got my back (hmm, God's got my back)
Even when I fall or get attacked
God's got my back (God's got my back)
Even when I'm low and full of lack
God's got my back (God's got my back, back)
Even when my soul is full of sorrow
I don't have to worry about tomorrow
Why's that? (That, that)

Because today is the day that the Lord has made
I will rejoice and be glad in it
Today is the day that the Lord has made
Even with all of the bad in it
Today is the day that the Lord has made
I will rejoice and be glad in it
I will rejoice and be glad in it
'Cause God's got my back.

If anyone has heard it, how is it?

It appears that this mine is playing out, although I could go on indefinitely.

Scripture reading #1: Isaiah 9:2a&6-7 / Isaiah 7:14

Song #1: “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel”

(e) e b D e G b e
O come, O come, Emmanuel, And ransom captive Israel.

A e b b a G
That mourns in lonely exile here, Until the Son of God appears,

G b a e G C b e
[Refrain:] Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel, shall come to thee, O Israel!

2 O come, O Wisdom from on high,
who ordered all things mightily;
to us the path of knowledge show
and teach us in its ways to go. (Refrain)

3 O come, O come, great Lord of might,
who to your tribes on Sinai's height
in ancient times did give the law
in cloud and majesty and awe. (Refrain)

4 O come, O Branch of Jesse's stem,
unto your own and rescue them!
From depths of hell your people save,
and give them victory o'er the grave. (Refrain)

5 O come, O Key of David, come
and open wide our heavenly home.
Make safe for us the heavenward road
and bar the way to death's abode. (Refrain)

6 O come, O Bright and Morning Star,
and bring us comfort from afar!
Dispel the shadows of the night
and turn our darkness into light. (Refrain)

7 O come, O King of nations, bind
in one the hearts of all mankind.
Bid all our sad divisions cease
and be yourself our King of Peace. (Refrain twice)

Dear desire of every nation, Joy of every longing heart.

2. Come to earth to taste our sadness,
He whose glories knew no end;
By His life He brings us gladness,
Our Redeemer, Shepherd, Friend.
Leaving riches without number,
Born within a cattle stall;
This the everlasting wonder,
Christ was born the Lord of all.

3. Born thy people to deliver,
born a child and yet a King,
born to reign in us forever,
now thy gracious kingdom bring.
By thine own eternal spirit
rule in all our hearts alone;
by thine all sufficient merit,
raise us to thy glorious throne.

Scripture reading #3: Luke 2:1&3-7

Song #3: “Away in a Manger”
