Today I would like to share the lyrics of one of my poems/songs in honor of Charlie Kirk and his wife
as well as those who died on 9-11-01.

“Someday”

Sleepy, I’m so sleepy, Let me rest on your shoulder.
Peacefully, you close by me, Until the night is over.
And dream we will come To the garden
someday.

Someday, I will leave you, Don’t say, “It’s not true!”
Remember the good times, Not the things we didn’t do.
The past is behind us, The future soon, too,
someday.

Someday, maybe soon, You will love again.
If you cry my name in your sleep, Just say, I was a friend.
For if he knew how close we were, It might hurt him–
someday.

Though time will tell us when to go, We never will know why
We wander far away, girl, Through clouds that mist the eye.
Physicians and politicians Can’t save their pawns’ souls,
someday.

So, stay by me a little while,
And let me see your pretty smile
As I drift off, away from you…
someday.

At this point let us add another category of songs to this thread, which can be called "redeemed" because they substitute godly and biblical lyrics for the original secular words. Here is my redemption of "Hey Jude", retitled as "Dear God":

“Dear God”
(Tune: the Beatles’ “Hey Jude”)

Dear God, sometimes I’m bad;
take my sad song and make it better.
The minute I let you into my heart,
then I can start to make it better.

Dear Lord, give me your love;
teach me compassion for all my brothers.
The minute I let you under my skin,
then I’ll begin to love them better.

And anytime I feel the pain, I’ll call your name,
Why carry the world upon my shoulders.
For now I know that it’s a fool who plays it cool,
Ignoring your peace, your love, the gospel.

Jesus, I won’t let you down;
you have loved me, now I will love everyone.
The minute I let you into my heart,
then I could start to love them better.

I’ll put hate out and let love in, Jesus, begin,
I’m waiting for someone to perform with.
And don’t you know that it’s just you, Jesus, you’ll do;
The moment you came loving had meaning.

Dear God, I’m no longer sad;
got your glad song, and I feel better,
The minute I let you under my skin,
then I began to make it better, better, …
Da, da da, da da da da,… Dear God. (repeat and fade)

Now, everybody sing along!...

"Anybody Here?" updated as a memorial to Charlie Kirk, recently martyred.

"Anybody Here?"
(Tune: "Abraham, Martin and John")

Anybody here seen my young friend Charlie?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
He freed a lot of people but it seems the good they die young
I just looked around and he's gone.

Anybody here seen Erika’s husband Charlie?
Can you tell her why he's gone?
He loved a lot of people but it seems the good they die young
His wife looked around and he was gone.

Anybody here seen his young girls’ father?
Can you tell them how he's gone?
He helped a lot of people but it seems the good they die young
They just looked around and he had gone.

Didn't you love the truth that he stood for?
Wasn't he brave to try and share it with you and me?
And make us free, some day, maybe soon,
It's gonna be Judgment Day

Anybody here seen Christ’s good friend Charlie?
Can you tell me if he's gone?
I thought I saw him passing up into the sky
With his Lord Jesus, martyr Paul and John.

May his martyrdom be a spiritual turning point in the nation he loved!

A potential song that I have not come up with a tune for yet"

“From Paul to the Proud”
(A poetic paraphrase of Romans 1:1-2:9a)

From Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, An apostle—called by the Lord,
Chosen to preach the gospel, foretold By prophets in the Holy Word.
Jesus was born a descendant of David, But rose from the dead as God’s Son,
An act of great power to prove Him divine— From Him I received a commission . . .
To lead all the world to believe and obey, Including you living in Rome,
Whom God also loves and calls to be saved, And with Jesus to make your new home.

May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ Grant you peace and grace.
I thank them for you, because the whole world Is hearing that faith you embrace.
The God whom I serve with all of my heart Is witness that when I pray
I always remember you, hoping that He Will let me come see you some day.
I long to be with you and share by the Spirit The faith that will help us be strong.
My brothers, how often I’ve planned to come, But something has always gone wrong.

How eager I am to evangelize you In fulfillment of my obligations
To preach the good news to all kinds of people In all of the Gentile nations.
For I’m not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ, Which has the power to save
All who believe, whether Gentile or Jew, Though once of Satan a slave.
It is written, the just shall live by faith, But the wages of sin is death,
Which is poured out on all who deny what is plain: That God has given them breath.

God punishes them because they are evil And blind to what clearly is true—
The fact of creation confronting them always No matter what they say and do.
They think themselves wise, while in truth they are fools And have no excuse at all.
Refusing to honor the power of God, They stumble in darkness and fall.
Exchanging the truth about God for a lie, They worship and serve only dust
That is made in the image of man and machine, Perverting true love into lust.

Burning with passion and shameful desires, Consumed by unnatural sex acts,
Men still choose to suffer and torture each other Rather than face the facts.
And yet God allows them to break all the rules: To murder, to hate, and to lie.
They invent new sins, while all the time knowing That demons deserve to die.

Do you, so proud, think you’re less to blame, While sitting in judgment on others?
Surely you see God’s mercy is meant For those who become Jesus’ brothers.
But you, hard-hearted, closed-minded and proud, Will one day God’s justice be meted.
When eternal life is awarded believers, Damned will be those He defeated!

The recent martyrdom of Charlie Kirk and his memorial service today have me thinking about heaven,
which is what I think about as I listen to "Peace Train" by Cat Stevens.

Now I've been happy lately Thinkin' about the good things to come
And I believe it could be Something good has begun
Oh, I've been smilin' lately Dreaming about the world as one
And I believe it could be Some day it's going to come
'Cause out on the edge of darkness There rides a peace train
Oh, peace train take this country Come take me home again

Now I've been smiling lately Thinkin' about the good things to come
And I believe it could be Something good has begun
Oh, peace train soundin' louder Glide on the peace train
Ooh-ah, ee-ah, ooh-ah Come on the peace train
Yes, peace train holy roller Everyone jump on the peace train
Ooh-ah, ee-ah, ooh-ah Come on the peace train.

Get your bags together Come bring your good friends, too
Our cause is getting nearer It soon will be with you
And come and join the living It's not so far from you
And it's gettin' nearer Soon it will all be true
Oh, peace train soundin' louder Glide on the peace train
Ooh-ah, ee-ah, ooh-ah Come on the peace train, peace train.

Now I've been cryin' lately Thinkin' about the world as it is
Why must we go on hating? Why can't we live in bliss?
'Cause out on the edge of darkness There rides a peace train
Oh, peace train take this country Come take me home again
Oh, peace train soundin' louder Glide on the peace train
Ooh-ah, ee-ah, ooh-ah Come on the peace train

Yes, peace train holy roller Everyone jump on the peace train
Ooh-ah, ee-ah, ooh-ah Come on, come on, come on
Yeah, come on peace train Hey, yes it's the peace train
Ooh-ah, ee-ah, ooh-ah Come on the peace train, oh peace train

The feeling of a misfit expressed by the Beach Boys' song, "I Just Wasn't Made for These Times".

… I keep lookin' for a place to fit in
Where I can speak my mind
And I've been tryin' hard to find the people
That I won't leave behind
… They say I got brains
But they ain't doin' me no good
I wish they could
… Each time things start to happen again
I think I got somethin' good goin' for myself
But what goes wrong

… Sometimes I feel very sad
Sometimes I feel very sad
(Ain't found the right thing I can put my heart and soul into)
Sometimes I feel very sad
(Ain't found the right thing I can put my heart and soul into)
… I guess I just wasn't made for these times

… Every time I get the inspiration
To go change things around
No one wants to help me look for places
Where new things might be found
Where can I turn when my fair weather friends cop out
What's it all about
… Each time things start to happen again
I think I got somethin' good goin' for myself
But what goes wrong

… Sometimes I feel very sad
Sometimes I feel very sad (ain't found the right thing I can put my heart and soul into)
Sometimes I feel very sad (ain't found the right thing I can put my heart and soul into)
… I guess I just wasn't made for these times
… I guess I just wasn't made for these times
I guess I just wasn't made for these times...

This song (by me) expresses feeling alone, without God.

“When You’re Alone”

Rushing rivers and flashing floods race to the sea,
But if they want an easy journey, they won’t follow me.

I’ve wandered far away,
Searching for a reason to stay,
Hoping I might find someone
Who will share their peace of mind.

The storm comes; people hide inside before too late,
But since I can’t escape my dreams, night is a much worse fate.

I’ve wondered what is love,
Is man created or God above,
Hoping I might find answers,
But fearing I will search ‘til the end.

Sadness is when you’re alone,
Where you don’t belong.
Sorrow is even in a throng
When love is gone.

Time passes, children grow, And old lovers die,
But since I’ve never lived, Death might as well pass me by.

A song about "The Power of Love":

Before you came I was swallowed by caverns of darkness.
Hiding from reality, I did not even seek a reason to live.
Lips so silent, but eyes so wild,
My insides were ripped into pieces of fire.
Flames formed one torch,
Troubled waters came to rest in your smile.

Have you ever dreamed ten thousand times?
Loud, but shy, you laugh and stare,
Wanting to talk with someone who cares,
Not just to be one of the crowd.

Many so wise told of glory in smoke and in tablets.
Dreams freer than peace of mind, hell had my soul.
Then one night in the clouds I breathed,
Your hand cooled my head, woke me from the dead.
And I turned from a sunless freedom to fight
For love seasoned with sweat and trued with tears.

Through the clouds of death,
I see you standing there;
I kiss your shining hair;
You lead me to a hidden garden
Full of flowers, where
Touching, we tremble all over
In wonder at the power of love.

What happened to all of the music lovers around here?
Have we really exhausted the biblical nuggets to be found in secular songs?
I know that I am having difficulty mining more from my musical library,
but here is another redeemed song I call "Where Do You Fit?"
(Tune: The Who’s “And They Say We are in Love”)

Where do you fit in the history of sin,
with lust in your eye, and a passion for gin?
And how do you feel when the new day comes,
Does it matter one bit if you see her again?
And you say it’s love, but who do you love?

Look how you walk, full of hatred and pride;
Your money buys much, that can’t be denied,
But tell me right now, don’t put on your act:
Is your life worth two cents; are you happy inside?
You say you love God, but who is your god?

You never think of the future or past;
The time that you get, you’re spending too fast.
Like a woman in childbirth, you think that your pain
Will be over soon, it surely can’t last.
You say Christ was good, but who nailed Him to that wood?
Yes, Jesus loves you, but do you love Him, too?

Okay, one more redeemed song from my repertoire:

“In the Garden of Eden”
(Tune: Iron Butterfly’s In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida”)

In the Garden of Eden, Adam,
Don’t you know that I loved you?
Till the time of the end, everybody,
Don’t you know that I’ll always be true?
Oh won’t you come with me–please take my hand;
Oh won’t you walk with me to the promised land?

In the Garden of Gethsemane
Don’t you know that I prayed for you?
On the hill of Golgotha, sinners
Paid the price to redeem all of you.
Oh won’t you believe in me—see my nail-scarred hands?
Oh won’t you live with me in the promised land?

Actually, I just redeemed these:

"Pilgrim/God's the One” (medley)

(Tunes: Enya’s “Pilgrim” and “Only Time”)

Pilgrim, as you journey On the road you chose
Find out while the days go From where the wind blows,
All truth comes from one Word That much you must know
Though the past is over, You change where you go.

Whether to destruction, whether as you chose
In your heart you wonder where there’s one who knows
Wonder as you wander, which road old or new
Which path leads to nowhere, which way to what’s true?

Who can say where the roads go? Why the days flow? Only One.
And who can say whether love grows As your heart chose? Only One.
Who can say as your heart sighs, as the world cries? Only One.
And who can say when our love dies, where the way lies? Only One.

Will you find the answer In what they say and do?
Or will you find the answer In the Word that’s true?
Each heart is a pilgrim, Each one wants to know
The reason why the winds blow, And where the rivers go

Pilgrim, in your journey, You may travel far
It may take a lifetime, To find out where you are
Pilgrim, it’s a long way, Filled with woe and strife
And the road is narrow, To find the way to life.

Who can say when the roads meet? That God might be in your heart?
And who can say as the dead sleep, Divine light shines in your heart?
Who can say where the road goes? Why the day flows? Only One.
And who knows all the answers? Only God knows, God’s the One.
Only God knows, God’s the One. Only God knows, God’s the One.

Ah— why do I even choose to come here to try and read when I first wake up...

"Mining the Bible for Mcnuggets"....

How did I even read that?

I think I may be hungry...😆😭

1 Peter 1:13Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, set your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 14As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance, 15but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior; 16because it is written: “YOU SHALL BE HOLY, FOR I AM HOLY.”

Reminiscing with worldly things Is longing for Egypt while living in the promise land.
Searching for nuggets in secular music is like digging in garbage cans for caviar.
With that in our heads, how can we remain pure?
Honestly, it's hard enough to find godly praise & worship music.

The obvious question you raise is whether we should enjoy ANY secular recreation.
What do you say about that (citing Scripture preferably)?

''Ignorance''? I trust you are working on distancing yourself from that excessive ancient trait? '', , had come in under false pretenses to spy on our freedom in Christ Jesus, in order to enslave us. (Gal 2:4)

Yes, I agree, although it is remarkable that the Bible never mentions what we would consider to be secular recreation.
However, instead of viewing this truth as condemnation of all such activity, I view it as permission to engage in various
activities, games, hobbies, music, etc., as long as they do not contradict moral values.

Secular music in & of itself has many spiritual influences in it that are not of God. Satan uses secular music & even some christian music.

Satan uses secular music & even some christian music.
''Spiritual songs'' If the thread permit, What isn't acceptable, when if the heart makes melody and finds meaning before the Lord? The secular lyrics available are infinite and infinitely incapable to brushstroke a correction that wide.

Well, I will not say you seem hyper-judgmental until I see how you answer the rest of the question about all types of secular activities. Do you live in a convent and meditate on GW 24-7 or what?
