What about Jesus' teaching about the blind man He healed with spit and dirt. His followers asked who sinned so it appears that Jesus taught that some 'curses' are the result of parental sin otherwise the followers wouldn't have asked such a question.

IDK guys, like I said at the opening of this thread, I haven't studied this subject and am not trying to start anything contenous.

John G. Lake ministries teaches there are not, Jesus never asked if the parents sin had brought disease on a child. In fact the disciples asked Him just that and received the instruction it was not generational.
And yet,Jesus who was God The Word made flesh, came to die as a random for the Sin Nature He cursed all humanity with due to the innocent mistake the first human couple made,in the beginning.

Another subject that I have not studied in much depth.
Are they for real or no?
If they are real, who breaks them?
I know someone who would say they exist. And from three generations of experience.

There are sects that teach illness, disease, cancers, are of the Devil. Likely, those are the members of the Christian Science cult. Their doctrine of the enemy has put countless newborns in an early grave because they think Doctors and even antibiotics are of the Devil too.

Seize their children, sterilize those cultist parents, and save lives!
Freedom of religion doesn't include allowance for depraved indifference homicides.

Look, people can and do believe weird things. Somehow,it fills the holes they have inside themselves

However,in the case of generational curses, when bad stuff,or loss of revenue streams for decades despite all best efforts, recur it is time to pay attention.

Look at Job.
Hard to tell who his enemy was in all that. Until he lost everything.

Keep your head up.

There are examples of generational curses in the Old Testament, for instance the case of the sons of Eli, found in I Samuel chapter 2. However, they were relatively rare. On the other hand, there are no examples of any curses being broken in the Old or New Testaments.

Exodus 20:5 and similar passages are often quoted to support the idea of generational curses, but that verse is not speaking about them. Rather, Numbers 14 illustrates that what this means is the punishment due the parents will not be withheld even though the children will suffer from the effects.

So many Christians impose this false belief system upon new believers, yet they can never point to a single example of any curse being broken in Scripture. There are examples of fulfilled curses such as the 70 year exile in Babylon, but it was not broken.

I'm in my second decade of studying and writing on this subject and the one thing that doesn't change is the emotional attachment many Christians have to this subject. They insist and affirm that generational curses are something that must be broken in our lives but can never point to any Scriptural examples. Their response to questioning is always something to the effect of:

Trust me they are real!

My experience tells me we must break these curses!

Here is what happened to me!

I believe many of these people are well meaning, However, many enjoy the attention they receive from new believers when told of these so-called powerful forces controlling their lives.

I don't want you to 'believe me.'

I don't want you to 'trust me.'

I don't want your attention.

Simply crack open your bible and look for any discussion of breaking curses. Then, look at Exodus 20:5 and the other five occurrences of that motif in Scripture--in context. That's what I did and came to conclusions far different than the honest Christians mistaken about this and different from the curse hustlers.

I have dealt with many Christians that have been very damaged from these beliefs. Those promoting this should answer the simple questions I have proposed or stop teaching what they cannot verify from Scripture. We are all going to have to give an account on how we handle God's Word. I genuinely fear mishandling His truth.

to break the chain is simple to follow Christ

My question is how would one even know they have a generational curse on their lives? most of my life has been tragic sorrow painful and downright bleak everything seems to go wrong I suffered from abuse torture being beaten being emotionally abused drrugged sexually abused ect. and even now it seems like life just works against me.

I wonder if I have such a curse or if it is just the enemy coming after my life because he knows what I can become? and for that matter what about other people who have experienced the same kind of life? is it a curse or the enemy? What I believe is that if one does have such a curse God can remove it he is after all the redeemer and the one who frees us from shackles placed on us prayer is the key
Mine has been bleak too.
But you know what? I cling to God. Ultimately, this isn't the lifetime to settle down on. It will play out as God intended it, and pass away and be forgotten.
Just like a woman with child goes into labor with intense pain, after the child is born it's all forgotten, and the mother is joyful to hold their baby; so it will be in this life to the next. Those aren't my words.
Some faith is refined and tested like gold. That's not my plan.

Did He not say who the Son sets free is free indeed...for the believer. Had doctors ask did any family members have such and such.. to that I always tell the truth but.. I don't receive it. Christ set me free ..He didn't miss anything. I know the enemy will try to bring things from the past generations but unless I freely allow it receive it.. to that.. na.. I don't in Jesus name

He did. He first said, only those whom the Father calls can come to Him and believe.
Because God lifted the hardening, he hardens whom he will, of their natural minds so they could understand the things of God.

"This testifies that the curse that extends to the third and fourth generation only applies to those that follow in their father's footsteps in his sinful behavior."

Respectfully, this does not follow logically from any of these passages. Nor is this language found in Scripture. You have to smuggle the idea into the discuss because there is no explicit language to support it. Numbers 14--EXPLICITLY--states that ALL the children will suffer for 40 years in the desert because of the parent's sin. It had nothing to do with whether they followed in the father's footsteps. In fact, when Moses recounts the events in Deuteronomy, he states the children were innocent, yet the parent's sin was still visited on them.

Part of the problem in this discussion is the baked in notion that Exodus 20:5 is speaking of "generational curses" or "generational sins." Let me suggest that anyone who wants to know the truth about this should engage in a thought experiment. At least temporarily, stop listening to the curse proponents and analyze these passages from the perspective that Exodus 20:5 is not speaking about any type of supernatural curse. Try looking at this subject from a different perspective. After all, neither the word "curse" nor "generational" appears in Exodus 20:5 or any of the other 5 occurrences of that motif. For a moment, stop inserting the concept of
of "generational curses" or "generational sins" into the passage and simply read the Scripture at face value. Interpret Exodus 20:5 in view the situational example described in Numbers 14. Moses knew what Exodus 20:5 meant. That's why he invoked it in the rebellion.

Work the problem in context away from the voices of the curse merchants.

I am not trying to use this forum to sell my book, however I have dealt with these issues in depth. Anyone that can't afford it I will send them a copy for free. The name is:

Mathew 5:18:

That's right. We are not under the Law. Therefore, we are not subject to the curse of the Law. Furthermore, Exodus 20:5 is not speaking about curses.

I disagree with your premise that Jesus was the source of this teaching. In Ezekiel chapter 18, the Lord rebuked Israel for a similar error. This false argument is prevalent among the curse deliverance proponents, but it lacks any evidence. If you want to know the ultimate source that leads to this reasoning, go back to the fall of Adam and Eve. Adam blamed Eve, and Eve blamed the serpent. Denial is a fundamental condition of fallen mankind. It is our tendency to blame our sin and maladies on someone or something else. Obviously, maladies often come from outside sources, but problems in our lives are not the result of generational curses.

Notice also that this false argument smuggles the word curse and the phrase generational curse into the event. Jesus didn’t mention curses nor did the disciples.

When I decided to write a book on this subject my goal was to show that nowhere in the Bible do we see the practice of breaking curses, be they generational or any other type. I thought I could provide a series of premises to support my conclusion. While my conclusion was ultimately supported, only one of my premises proved to be valid and that is the one I already mentioned regarding the lack of Biblical examples, or teaching for that matter, of breaking curses. Most of my premises did not pan-out. Once I decided to only use the Scripture as my source material, I began to see the subject in a new light. I had to change my mind about a host of ideas. I am not afraid to do that.

The only two prophets to mention the Exodus 20:5 motif were Moses and Jeremiah. They only discussed it in a corporate context. Also, they were the two most prolific users of the word “curse.” To my count they expressed it 101 times between the two of them. They didn’t shy away from the use of the word. Yet, neither used the word within the context of Exodus 20:5 as commonly espoused, however Jeremiah did mention it pertaining to the impending Babylonian exile which was a fulfillment of Leviticus 26.

We should keep in mind that this would have been an opportunity for Jesus to discuss generational curses. He didn’t.

The idea of curses being the source of our problems is very appealing to our flesh. You have to decide if your are going to go with Scripture or the curse deliverance proponents.

Many afflictions & habits are transferred from parents to children. Alcoholism & drug addictions are transferred physically/medically to children by their mothers. Also behavioral issues such as anxiety and depression.
