We, unlike them, have the indwelling holy spirit that sanctifies us every moment. Therefore, those who walk by faith knowing that God is sanctifying them fulfill the purpose and righteousness of the 4th commandment apart from observing its letters.
IF we have the indwelling of the "Holy Spirit", the Spirit of Christ, then we will be a reflection of Him to the World, as Christ and His Righteousness. Matthew 28:19-20 - The Great Commission, 2 Corinthians 5:20 - Paul speaks of being "ambassadors for Christ,"
Isaiah 40:3-5 - A prophecy regarding preparing the way for the Lord, as Israel corporately was unable to do, so NOW it falls to us as God’s people to prepare the world for Christ’s second coming, having the indwelling of the Spirit of Christ and His Righteousness, imputed and imparted to believers through faith.
Christ's righteousness was manifested in His perfect life of obedience to God, and His sacrificial death provides a means for humans to receive this righteousness. It is through Christ's righteousness that believers are justified before God, not by their own works but by faith in Jesus' merits.
Righteousness by faith means that, through faith in Jesus, Christians can experience both forgiveness for sins and the empowerment to live a life in harmony with God’s will, the Law of Love. Exo. 20 & Matt 22:37 This righteousness, given freely to those who trust in Christ, is essential for the believer’s sanctification and ultimate salvation .
Righteousness is not just about receiving pardon for sin but about living a life transformed by the Holy Spirit, where the believer’s life reflects Christ's character ... Love !
So the purpose of the 4th commandment is not to not do any work, or follow a commandment, but to know that God is sanctifying us. That can be done without having to take Saturdays off.
"The purpose of the 4th commandment", which calls for the observance of the Sabbath, serves as a vital reminder of creation, the relationship between humanity and God, and the sanctification of time. The purpose of this commandment is to provide a designated time for rest, worship, and communion with God, emphasizing physical and spiritual renewal. The Sabbath is a sign of God's creation and a symbol of the rest believers find in Christ.
