An FCC license requires you to serve the public interest and that includes a report every three months detailing how you addressed issues of concern to the public. Therefore what Jimmy Kimmel said about the assassination being carried out by MAGA would have to be included in this report as this assassination clearly is of concern to the public.
Therefore it is certainly plausible that ABC could have lost their license as Kimmel's comments can be seen as misleading, without any basis in fact, and designed to poison the jury. People without an FCC license cannot lose an FCC license, so there can be Youtube channels, podcasts, etc. that say worse things without any apparent pushback. But there is a great advantage to ABC to have this license and it would be a huge loss to them to lose it, so everyone involved on this platform (ABC) should understand that they may be called to justify things they say as to whether it served the public interest or not.
