Cameron143 made a funny comment about how he feels ripped off when he buys Swiss cheese, because of the holes. :)
However we have many more types of cheese. We have hundreds of varieties, and each with its own regional characteristics. The one with the holes is called Emmentaler. And that's the only one with holes, and I don't even like it that much.

In the USA all swiss cheese has holes. I can't tell if they are cut out by a machine or made naturally during the cheese making process, but people would not buy any cheese that is labeled Swiss if it did not have holes. That's not authentic!

It's kind of like how over here in the USA we have many different kinds of burgers, and most of them, the vast majority in fact, have nothing to do with McDonald's junk. A lot of us actually look down on McDonald's burgers and regard them as just short of poison.

But that's not authentic, it's simply wrong! ;) Here, it would probably lead to a legal dispute if a cheese manufacturer would made holes in its non-Emmentaler cheese.

But the whole thing reminds me of my visit to Canada. "Swiss cheese" everywhere, but when I looked more closely at the packaging...

Who can spot the mistake? :)

I don't know much about cheese making, but I'm pretty sure they didn't ship Canadian milk all the way over to switzerland, make the cheese, then ship it back to canada.

That’s not uncommon, generally speaking. If you can squeeze an extra cent per pound in those massive amounts of cheese, it pays off sending ingredients halfway across the world and back. I’m not smart enough to find a better way myself.

And now I really want to know what Swiss cheese 🧀 from a real Swiss cow 🐄 would taste like...

 Yes, that would be really crazy. I had to laugh when I read that, and yes, I took the packaging home with me to show my friends and family, because no one else would have believed me. :) The very nice and kind family I stayed with during my trip explained to me that “Swiss cheese” is not legally protected in Canada and is therefore often used as a “seal of quality” to convey high quality.

Sure, but definitely not in this case!

Or maybe they found a farmer here who has Canadian cows. Then both would be true again...

I have some shredded provolone in my fridge partially made with yak milk.

I am very disappointed in the quality of the culinary education in this chat… That only I voted for natural peanut butter ....like in Texas with all the oil at the top. Come on now....
It's good to develop the wrist muscles as you remix it every time.

Seriously is there no one else who likes to put their peanuts in the blender at the organic food shop and blend out a batch. It's been a while, but I used to like it and then I throw in some almonds and cashews too.
I must have missed that post. It's an absolute wonder what that peanut butter machine can do to whole peanuts. And the other nuts are great "buttered up" like that too. One particularly useful friend who loved to eat with my family would spend 20 minutes getting the next store-bought jar ready, something I never took the time to do. We still tend to pour off the oil and just deal with the peanut butter getting stiffer as we got to the bottom of the jar.

So I caught up on many of the posts, and now I'm hungry for cheese with peanut butter spread on it.

Boy, I’m realizing that back in the day this site had a lot of outgoing members from all around the world. We all learned a lot from each other. These days it’s just too many Americans here.

Where are all of you from the other parts of the world? Please come back! The world doesn’t only revolve around Trump.
What does Trump have to do with anything? I live in Thailand.

Underrated comment.

Imagines one rounds the next aisle and sees a yak in front of them.
Not the yak, just the yak milk.

Actually I got this cheese at the auction house. Never know what you'll find at the auction house. Fresh peaches from a tree across town, a 2010 Ford truck, an industrial grade cotton candy machine... And cheese made from cow and yak milk.

Also, howdy Parable and welcome to the forum.

It doesn't include all 3 Swiss languages? ;-)
