What movies and TV shows would you recommend avoiding?
I want to try and bring God into every aspect of my life, and for me, part of that would be adjusting the content i consume to be things that honour God. I've had so many great recommendations from fellow Christians of things to watch, but I'd also like to know what to stay away from. Let me know anything you'd recommend :giggle:

I think it depends on personal conviction. There are shows that I used to watch in the past that I can't watch now because I have an uneasy feeling in my stomach with them. I feel convicted that it's not good for my spirit and I need to turn it off. But someone else may not feel the same way about that same show.

However, if something obviously doesn't honor God because the language is so vulgar, it's promoting worldly beliefs, it's clearly demonic, etc then that's a pretty safe bet to stop watching it.

You can always ask God if a certain show is right for you or not. He will let you know ;)

First, howdy and welcome to the forum.

If you want guidelines and principles, that is easy. If it propounds things that are wrong, don't watch it.

If you want a list... That's a bit more problematic. There are a LOT of shows these days. Lots and lots and lots and lots.

On the matter of propounding things that are wrong: I don't watch TV shows but I do listen to a lot of stand-up comedy on YouTube. I run into this a LOT. Many comedians think "Oh I'm moderately famous, so now I need to use this platform to push a message!" Like... SO MANY comedians do this now. When they start talking about transphobic, homophobic, making fun of Christians, etc. it's time to turn it off.

I recommend you avoid Gotham (The Batman series), it is very gory, graphic, and morose. It shows some of most awful things I have ever seen in terms of mutilation and depravity.

I also recommend you stay away from Ridley Scott's Alien films and their sequels, because the Xenomorph is designed by an Occultist named H.R. Giger who knew Alister Crowley, a major Occultist. The Xenomorph was designed for a ancient witchcraft book that has pentagrams and Jesus being torn to pieces.

Oh goodness, I had no idea the Alien films had connections to Alister Crowley. Though I suppose it makes sense now I think about it, his influence is very prevalent in the movie industry. Thank you for letting me know, I appreciate it :giggle:

Actually, Crowley had no affiliation with the Alien film franchise.

H.R Giger did. The alien creature was derived from his artwork.

Whereas Aliester Crowley, pronounced like holy, per his insistence, claimed he had opened a portal between the worlds during a ritual he performed in his NY apartment.
The aliens and others he claimed then had access to this plane are the big eyed grey aliens we see in UFO reporting.

Crowley was actually an agent with British intelligence.

Hello Kitty,

I always liked the vintage TV series that had some moral to teach.
Even as a child, I enjoyed the old 1950s cartoons and later TV Land comedies. It seems like TV and movies kept pushing the envelope until I gave up looking at the modern options.
I have some CDs, but we all have different preferences for entertainment. If you listen your favorite category it might narrow down the responses to help you out.

I like some Westerns and Action movies because I'm a guy. Not to say ladies don't like those too. Mom liked Gunsmoke.
I'm not from the Rifleman era, but I still enjoy the stories. Lucas Mccane always taught his boy lessons after defeating the bad guys.

Ah, thank you for fact checking that. I was pretty sure that was not accurate. The titular Alien looks a lot more like Animal Planet on steroids than Cthulhu.

Avoid "The View" like the plague.
Avoid CBS, ABC, MSNBC, etc
Avoid Jimmy Kimmel
all shows like those will rot your brain....

Nearly every show on any of the streaming services actively promotes and legitimizes gay/lesbian relationships.

I don't watch much TV anymore.

The list of shows that would be good to watch would be a much easier, shorter list...

" the rifleman " was one of my late dad's favorite shows.

Thank you! I book marked it.
There are a lot of TV shows here from the 50s?-70s?
That was the era of a lot of wholesome entertainment. It wasn't like going to church, but you didn't have to dig through a dumpster to look for something decent to watch.

Westerns are pretty cool, my dad watches them all the time. I like pretty much any genre of film but I especially love sci-fi and fantasy. I like horror movies too but it’s a little hard to watch them since I became a Christian as so many of them tend to seem disrespectful to God or gory and gross.

I think there were some good sci-fi series from the 70s and 80s.
Your link has the original Star Trek.
Everybody likes that. Good scripts, special effects and acting.
I bought the V for Visitors series from a vintage store. It was pretty good too.

I listened to a podcast about a former demon possessed guy who was captivated by dark movies and scary themes. He explained in detail what you just said. He apparently trusted Christ as his Savior since.

I went through something similar actually, not complete possession or anything but I went through a lot of demonic oppression before I was saved. At the time, all I watched and listened to was dark stuff, and I think it could have fed into the problem. I’m forever grateful that Jesus pulled me out of that, and now I’m really trying to be cautious with what I’m bringing into my life. That’s the main reason I made this thread, and just because it’s fun to chat lol

Unless u r actually watching a show or film made by Christians for Christians , u r likely to b watching something u can find fault with . I don't watch much TV at all anymore , the most recent show I enjoyed was Superstore , I like things from one extreme to the other , things that make me laugh and then horror films also . I mostly watch DVD's of things that I've already seen . Lots of old UK comedies and some U.S.A. stuff too , Malcolm in the Middle springs to mind . I'm not offended by violence or nudity but I don't seek it out . At the end of the day it's just fictional entertainment . God has given us a sense of humour and if we don't use it , we might just loose it 😜 . We all need a bit of light relief in this world of horrors so don't b too hard on yourself . If u don't like it just turn it off . I read a lot of novels also , not too much trashy stuff , usually older stuff written by good writers , Steinbeck , Vonnegut , Heller , Austen , Du Maurier , Kafka , Tolstoy the list is endless , again just fictional entertainment and u can sometimes learn something from a good book . Be careful of closing yourself off to art and culture , all real talent is God given and may b helpful to u in some way . Also , denying yourself things that make u laugh or feel happy can b detrimental to your mental health . If something makes u feel uncomfortable just move away from it but try not to pre judge until u have experienced it for yourself . Discernment is a good thing but pre judging isn't always good for u .

I have had a few run ins with demons too; not for dabbling with anything demonic, but for serving the Lord.
I don't fear them, but have nothing but contempt for them. I think they revel in frightening people because they manipulate with fear. Since we are supposed to fear God and not devil's, I think they want to scare people as part of their psychological warfare. Part of their control over people is fear and demoralization.

I'm glad you overcame the demons through Jesus. That is a very special blessing you doubtless will always appreciate.

That reminds me of when demon(s) once uncloked and manifested in someone close to me. It was my girlfriend at the time. Satan often attacks through a man's woman, as he did Eve and Job's wife. But this was clearly full blown possession.
This event took place in front of the chemistry building and main library at WVU late morning in front of dozens of witnesses. It was beyond a horror movie.

It/ they were totally violent, (I'm not sure how many). I admit that I was caught off guard and was scared.
Then the Lord spoke to my spirit and told me to NOT fear, because greater is He Who is in me than he who is in the world."
I was able to use the sword of the Spirit, and cast it out of her later that hour.
(See picture upper left corner. The self portrait comes to mind when going up against the damned creatures.)
