I understand. I don't necessarily agree. However, time will tell if Mr Trump is right. It's also true that globalisation (i.e. the end of tariffs) have benefited the very few at the expense of multitudes.
Already some American companies have pulled out of China. If they return to America, that means jobs that were lost being restored. Australia is afflicted by the disease of ending manufacturing. We can't make a car tyre here. If ever we went to war with China, or even if China blockaded us, we would be in big trouble.
Mr Trump's strategy is to force countries to enter into fairer tariff deals. This is understandable when some countries impose massive tariffs while seeking to export to America tariff free. Some countries have already made deals. No doubt there will be winners and losers.
The question is will this strategy have the desired result? Globalisation failed. The rich have become obscenely wealthy while living costs have soared. At least Mr Trump is trying a different approach.
Having said all that, a real threat is the move to AI, automation and robots. The optimists say that there will be new, highly skilled workers required. That's all well and good, but who leaves college ready to repair a robot? We are seeing the end of taxi driving as a job. I'm real glad I'm not coming into the workforce now. I'd be learning robotics if I was.
Apparently you can bring millions of illegal aliens into the country each year, but can only deport 300K legally. That seems odd.
Apparently those making the most noise about the 22nd amendment are not familiar with what got it passed. Prior to 1951 there had been 140 amendments for term limits for the president. These discussions date all the way back to the Federalists papers. The problem is you need 2/3 majority and the discussions always heated up when they saw a President who potentially would go beyond the two terms (Washington, US Grant, Teddy Roosevelt and FDR). The problem is how do you get 2/3 to vote for this when the majority of Americans just voted in a popular president? However, Washington set a precedent that all other presidents followed, that being 2 terms and then you step down. The guy who broke the logjam on the ammendment was Truman. He split the Democratic party and after FDR all republicans were united in passing this. (Which is why everyone laughed and ridiculed AOC for saying it was passed to keep FDR from running again, indicating she thought the Democrats would elect a dead man if given the chance).
So although Truman was instrumental everyone (except apparently Dude and SheisHere from Canada) associates this amendment with FDR being elected to four consecutive terms during WW2. Which of course is the point of this provocative angle of attack. It is getting Democrats all upset about how unconstitutional it is for a President to make himself king when the only President who violated Washington's precedent was a Democrat.
So I hate to spoil the fun but they are laughing at the ignorance of SheisHere from Canada and Dude.

I will go with what the lawyers state over your above non related explanation, which is what I already knew and stated it came into effect after FDR, but there you again misrepresenting.
The 12th Amendment does not say that someone who is ineligible to be elected President could not be Vice President. Accordingly, the 22nd Amendment leaves open a loophole that an individual could be elected to the Vice Presidency (or the Speakership of the House), then rise to the Presidency.

I don't think that's the case. I don't think a president can serve in any capacity after having served two terms as president
I believe by the time 2028 comes around people will be so sick of the Republican party, no Republican will be able to get elected to anything. That's usually how things work; elect one party to get back at the other one. Unfortunate but true.
As with all things, it will probably have to be ruled by the Supreme Court as to the spirit and intent of the law.
I am thinking that court is done with Trump.
But generally I agree, the amendment was written because there was fear of dictatorships which were being seen in other parts of the world.
Non related? All these ones with their head exploding saying Trump wants to be king, this is how he trolls people. He says he'll run for a third term, not as VP, that is just another example of how stupid are the talking heads you are listening to. No, he does it so that all the Democrats can go ballistic, exposing their hypocrisy. They had no problem when the President who did try to make himself king was a Democrat. Everyone with a sixth grade education knows that he can't be elected to a third term, but that doesn't mean he can't expose hypocrisy in the left wing trolls.
Also there may be a reference to Obama. Democrats were about to let Michelle Obama run for president. So what is stopping Melania Trump from running and letting her husband be the real president? I think she'll be around 58 and could become the first woman president.

They are mocking you and Dude and RA and all the other haters. We already know that Melania Trump can run for president, the Democrats have already argued that is fine and they have no problem with the first lady running, and we also know that Melania would appeal to all those who want to see the first woman president. Also, whether or not she does run, the threat of her running means Trump will not be a lame duck for the last two years of his term.Apparently @Eli1 does not, after all he did put a disagree on the post.
