If we can’t uphold the Constitution and thus checks and balances, then the current administration is taking us in the wrong direction.

Bypassing due process is a step toward dictatorship. The problem is that some of our fellow citizens are applauding these atrocities.

Shame on you.

You have me completely confused, you said that Trump was not serious about being a dictator in one post, in another post you said he was acting like a dictator and now you tell me we are a small step from being a dictatorship. Does this mean he is stepping away from acting like a dictator or does this mean he is now serious about being a dictator?

...and to add to that ... do you mean that the Dems are acting more like dictators and fascists by limiting speech or is it Trump who is allowing free speech?

Yep, where was the outrage about dictatorship when they shut down churches and small businesses, but Walmart, Costco and casinos were left open during the pandemic?

Proverbs 20:10 Divers weights, and divers measures, both of them are alike abomination to the Lord.

@ZNP In Texas Abbott shut down all the nonessential businesses and gatherings over a certain number of people(Churches) and had the HP pull over any out of state vehicles entering Texas for quarantine while Trump was still in office. After Trump left office and Biden took over is when Texas let them all open back up and passed laws about requirements for mandates and others. This may have been different in other states I don't know but @Texasgal is from Texas (me also) so what your saying was just the opposite to us in Texas ie the Republicans are who enforced the mandates here.

Yes, I remember him because his name was so unique. So sorry for your loss.
*Gasp* Oh! I didn't know either!

Thank you. I'm surprised to find he was so active on the internet myself. I ask one of you if you knew him a few pages back because it made me wonder how he could.
I liked your father. His posts were witty and sometimes lightened threads that were getting too heavy with debates. Good contributions to these forums! He will be missed!

NY had the mandates in 2021 but they shut down businesses and churches while Trump was president. I blame pastors for agreeing to that. So the shutdowns of the churches I feel was 80% on the pastors for not having the backbone to say no. The vaccine mandates were on Biden.

That's what I was thinking that different states took different approaches depending on blue or red dominance. In Texas it's been Republican for more than half my life I cant even name any Democrats by name there so non existent. Texas is completely run by rich businessmen and so if you want to pinch a Texan you have to attack them different. There's option A Red Republican Authoritarianism or option B Red Republican Authoritarianism no other choices than those two.

Texas has 12 Democratic representatives in Congress. In addition, between 2016 and 2024, 64 of the largest cities had Democratic mayors.

Big name Democrats who would stand a chance of being Governor or progressing in politics. I'm not a Democrat so it's not bad that there are none to me, the issue is the Republicans are not much better in Texas. It all stinks any way you look at it if none of them follow the law themselves or change the laws to suit themselves when needed.

In South Carolina we were allowed to do most things. Schools went to online, but I was homeschooling my kids already.

Texas was really messed up Abbott and crew shut down even the barber shops when it first started. After the election and Trump left office if Biden said the sky was blue Abbott said it was green. It's one mandate after the next in Texas like a wizard with a magic wand but Abbott with an ink pen instead.

Yes, the attack was on small business and churches. It was such hypocrisy that small businesses were shut down but Costco, Walmart, and Casinos were allowed to be open.
