I watched it, and from everything I've read and heard, the brutality was very correct. I've read that to be "scourged" was often fatal. The whips that the Romans used had pieces of metal or lead attached to the ends of them, in order to inflict maximum damage and pain.
If you are, as you stated, then I would tell you to not watch the film. You could watch it up to the trial and scourging, but that part of the movie is very difficult to watch. I am not squeamish in movies, but, knowing this is what my savior endured for ME made it very painful to see. I have not watched it a second time, and may not ever.
Knowing what he suffered for us is important.... I think many people just gloss over his death.... "yes he was crucified for us"... without knowing the extent that he suffered for US.
It might help to know where the word "excruciating" originates....
The word "excruciating"
originates from the Latin word "excruciare", meaning "to torment, torture, or crucify," which in turn comes from "crux," meaning "cross". The word's etymology is directly tied to the pain and suffering associated with
crucifixion, a Roman method of execution.
It is a difficult movie to watch, however.
