Hi , I'm new ish here but I've been a Christian for about 30 years . Trouble is I've been mad about music for about 48 years . By music I mean ALL kinds , from classical to punk . Music has been a massive part of my life , I have no musical talent whatsoever but it has helped me so much . Listening to music is so helpful to me , it's the quickest fix . If I'm doing boring housework I listen to music and I don't even notice the boring housework cos I'm having so much fun listening to music . I've tried to listen to Christian music and apart from a tiny few country music tracks , I'm so sorry to say but it does nothing for me . I adore the old fashioned English hymns we sing in church but when it comes to recreational music 😒 I'm sorry to say but I need , what most people refer to as secular music . I don't hold with this not listening to someone's music because they aren't Christians . I know for sure that I wouldn't like some of my favourite musicians if I knew them personally , but that's not what it's about , it's all about the sound of the music to me , that's all I'm interested in . The first music I remember is the Beatles and the soundtrack to the Jungle Book which I had on vinyl when I was a child . I have about 20 favourite bands and if I listed them all , u may not want to speak to me again 😬 . I believe that all talent is God given and I know that a lot of secular music has really really helped me through some tough times . It often expresses things in ways that make me tingle or cry or get goose bumps . I haven't yet given up my secular collection of cd's , I have over 800 , every one is loved . For the record , my favourite bands r , in no particular order : arcade fire , Beatles , kinks , Van Der Graff Generator , Uriah heap , Jethro full , the who , Siouxie and the banshees , Simon and Garfunkel , cat Stevens , Donovan , Bob Dylan , Jefferson airplane , the fall , Tom Waits , p.j.harvey , Joan armatrading , Sinead o Connor , nirvana , black Sabbath , motorhead , dio , rainbow , level 42 , ub40 , the cure , the specials , Gary Newman and tubeway army , sly and the family stone , Diana Ross and the Supremes , just realised that more than 20 and I could still keep going . Any body else out there mad about music ? I also love opera ( Puccini especially ) and classical esp Beethoven .

I listen to lots of secular music myself, and I'm sure the stuff I listen to would go over a lot worse than anything you have 😂
But I was also into a lot of Xian metal in the past. As well as punk and other genres.
I had 800 or so CDs in the past, but could never get them back, after I moved. Most out of print or even underground.
There were some really great Xian punk albums in the past.
Secular punk I'm not really up on well, being a metalhead above all else.
Do you listen to anything heavier than Motorhead?
Looking for any recommendations, or are you just chatting about music?

😆😆😆😆😆 anything heavier than motorhead ? Have u heard the ace of spades album ? 😆😆😆 Surely there's nothing heavier than that 😲 hubby liked a bit of what they call death metal when he was younger but no , I don't think we have anything heavier than ace in our possession . One of my fave albums , bleach by nirvana us also very good and heavy . Think Nirvana r my fave but I also love the Fall and Siouxie and the Banshees , they r art not punk . I'm guessing u have heard of everything I listed so I won't have any suprises for u , if u like a bit of heavy blues rock u could try Groundhogs , they only did a couple of albums as their lead singer had some very serious mental health issues in the 60's so there were no meds , their best album is called Split , u might like . Also love the B52 'S and iron butterfly . I'm so sorry for the loss of all those CD's 😬 . As Christians we mustn't get too hung up on our stuff but it can b hard when that stuff gave us a lot of pleasure . This world is very often a c r a - - y place and I think we all need something that helps to relax us and feel a bit of joy . I don't drink , do drugs , watch TV , play video games , gamble , although I have done all of those things at some point in my life . Compared to many of this world's distractions , I think listening to a bit of rowdy music and bouncing around my living room as if I was still 15 , seems like an innocent pleasure to me . All the pleasures of this life r just distractions from the misery and injustice that we all c every day , as long as we recognise them as nothing more than temporary distractions and we don't let them get out of hand I think that's ok . 🤘🤘🤘

Ah, death metal, now we're headed in the right direction 😁 Thats my favorite genre. But I like a lot of other music too, not metal related.
I did know all those bands, except for Groundhogs. I'm not a fan of 60s and 70s rock. Music before and after the 60s and 70s is better to me. I'd rather listen to Frank Sinatra than those other two decades. Or rather even listen to disco haha.
And never got much into the grunge phase.
I have one B52's song. Can you guess which one? Haha
Well I got woke up early with some bad news, so I'm off to catch some more sleep.

There are some threads here where you can find references to Christian music in the styles you like. Christian metal, for example, is a thread probably still in the first page of this forum.

Believe me I've tried 🙄 I'm not against religious sings but most of them put me to sleep . I like Helen Ready singing Delta Dawn 😁 , I like songs that r only incidentally Christian if u know what I mean . Cat Stevens singing Peacetrain , Donovan singing Try and Catch the Wind .

What I'm looking for

Which is also incidentally Christian.

You didn't exactly ask for any recommendations... But that has never stopped me before.

Just about everything from that album is a good track to put on and play in the background while you're washing dishes or vacuuming or cleaning up dog mess or mowing or whatever.
