Bread.

Sandwiches are great for a single guy. No leftovers. You can make it as big or as small as you want. You can toast bread and crumble it up into a bowl of soup. Lots of stuff you can do with some bread.

This morning I'm going to have scrambled chicken salad sandwiches for breakfast. That's where you mix up chicken salad, but instead of spreading it on bread you crumble up the bread and stir it into the bowl. Then you eat the whole mess.

Other than the ordinary flour, sugar, milk, eggs, salt type of staples, what is one that would really bug you to run out of? Like a certain spice or seasoning or condiment?

What inspired this thread is the annoying fact that we're out of black pepper currently. It's one of my very favorite spices, not only for the flavor but also the appearance of the food it decorates lol.
I'd starve without my microwave, oh wrong subject.

I'm not much of a cook (though I find this useful in trying to keep my weight down,) but I do have long-term relationships with two kitchen accessories that are regrettably near their end.

I have two "scoop" chopping boards that have just the right height and curved edging that everything I chop is contained, along with the juice, which makes it extremely easy to grip and transfer all the goods to their next destination.

The sight of mere flat chopping boards make me want to turn a cold shoulder.

Same thing with a particular "spoontula" that I use for everything. It has just enough width and curve to be able to corral anything from scrambled eggs to stir fries.

Unfortunately, my beloved true loves are so old and worn down, the brand names are missing so I don't remember which company they're made by.

And when I look up other supposed versions online, even amongst the might jungle of Amazon, I can't find anything with nearly enough size-to-scoop ratio to fit my liking.

Alas.

I'm afraid I'm just going to have to enjoy my time with these faithful companions while they last... Then sadly bid a very sorrowful goodbye.

Picture?

Argh!!!

I tried posting a screenshot -- it wouldn't accept it.

I tried just taking a picture through the system -- it said it was too large.

I'm already running late so I don't have the time or patience to figure out tech hiccups this morning... I'll send you a pic via offsite PM.
