"Clergy" is derived from the Greek word "kleroo" which mean "a portion, an inheritance or a claim to a family estate".
In the New Testament, all believers, through Christ, have a rightful claim to the lineage of the King and His kingdom. All have an inheritance in Christ. God does not separate clergy (priests) from laity (the people) like men do.

My posts have been a parody on this subject. I find humor in some of the pageantry. It's easy to see in some places.

As to your point, I agree.
In the New Covenant/ Testament all believers are priests under our High Priest, Jesus Christ. Biblically speaking a Roman Catholic can ask if I am a priest and I should answer, Yes.
Just don't call me father, for One is the Father which is in heaven.
