Yes, they can both be correct. Mary had to wait until the Sabbath ended at sundown before she could do the "work" of the burial preparations. By then it probably would have been unsafe for her to go to the tomb alone (especially considering that it was a secluded location and male guards were stationed there). So she waited until the crack of dawn the next morning, the sun was risen a bit but it was still pretty dark.

They where mocked.. So maybe they again returned a second time to confirm to themselves, that they where not hallucinating..
In the end to get the apostle Peter to come and look they had to report that the body of Jesus had been stolen..
(John 20:2) "Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him."
This did the trick and got Peter to come running to the tomb so he could see the situation for himself..
