I have always been a tea drinker and enjoyed herbal, black and green teas.
Years ago, I noticed that the tea bags were transitioning from the cloth looking bags to plastic. I was disappointed but used them if I happened to buy a new box of tea with it by accident.

For twenty years, I have thrown out Teflon cookware, plastic cups and used stainless, glass and ceramic instead. I've formally studied the agricultural industries so I trust them not to provide safe food products at the source or processing. When the heat resistant plastic bags came along, I wondered what chemicals leach into our hot beverages. Now we find that it's worse than I thought!
Micro and nano plastics that directly enter the cells nucleus come from the tea bags. Those who use Keurig coffee containers should also be concerned. Boiling water over plastic can be tasted without a high tech lab spectrometer. I notice the difference between milk from a plastic jug and that from glass.
Test this for yourself.

The forever chemicals in Teflon coated (aka wax) cartons cannot contribute to health either.

What are we to do?

Popular Tea Bags Release Billions of Microplastics

Popular polymer tea bags release billions of plastic particles into cups of tea
Microplastics have been linked to more or less all of the prevailing chronic diseases of modernity, from respiratory diseases to digestive conditions like IBS, heart disease and even neurological and behavioral conditions like autism.

Popular tea bags made from polymer fibres release huge quantities of toxic micro- and nanoplastics into the liquid while they’re brewing, according to a new study.

Researchers brewed tea using popular tea bags made from the polymers nylon-6, polypropylene and cellulose and measured levels of plastic particles in the tea.

Polypropylene was showed to release approximately 1.2 billion plastic particles per milliliter of liquid. Cellulose released about 135 million particles per milliliter and nylon-6 8.8 million particles per milliliter.

The researchers then tested the collected plastic particles to see how they interacted with cells in the human digestive system. They showed that mucus-producing intestinal cells had the highest uptake of micro- and nanoplastics. Particles were even able to enter the cell nucleus, which stores the cell’s genetic material.

Microplastics have been linked to more or less all of the prevailing chronic diseases of modernity, from respiratory diseases to digestive conditions like IBS, heart disease and even neurological and behavioral conditions like autism.

More than nine billion tons of plastic are estimated to have been produced between 1950 and 2017, with over half of that total having been produced since 2004. The vast majority of plastic ends up in the environment in one form or another, where it breaks down, through weathering, exposure to UV light and organisms of all kinds, into smaller and smaller pieces—microplastics and then nanoplastics. These are “secondary” microplastics, because they start off big and end up small. “Primary” microplastics are small by design, like so-called “microbeads” used in cosmetics.

Within our homes, microplastics are mainly produced when synthetic fibres from clothes, furnishings and carpets are shed. They accumulate in large quantities in dust and float around in the air, which we then inhale.

If you want to learn more about microplastics, the potential health consequences of exposure, and what you can do to protect yourself and your loved ones, read our detailed primer, “The Microplastic Menace.

There's a lot of stuff out there that isn't healthy for us. Oftentimes, the negative health effects of something isn't known until the product is in widespread use. The bottom line is, we're gonna die from something unless we're raptured first.

This is true.
Some die from lead poisoning. 😉
That reminds me of a Clint Eastwood quote. No sure this is it, but it's a good one.

I cheated and looked it up. It was
Sean Connery in the Untouchables .

Anyhow, I agree with you. I just try to eliminate the worst things as I learned about them. My students were taught to make small achievements one at a time. Then, it's not a big deal.
Do you think that decisions can impact our longevity and quality of life?

"Buzzard's gotta eat, same as worms." ?
Yup that was the wrong quote.
Good quote IMHO, but wrong.
It was Sean Connery in the Untouchables. 😄

You posted some concerning videos that got me thinking.
I decided to use paper bags for years.
Eventually I went to plastic when they made paper too thin it would always tear. I'm encouraged to make my own reusable bags now. It's just a pain if I go through self check out and the computer keeps malfunctioning and making me wait for the one cashier to come over to reset the thing.

What kind of tea do you drink?

I think that if you avoid one thing to try and affect your longevity and quality of life that there's probably something else you're consuming that's even worse for you, but you don't know it yet.

I think quality of life is more important than longevity, and that means both avoiding things that you believe are bad for you, but drawing the line and consuming and doing the things that you really like, and consuming/doing those things without worrying about it.

I like to run, for example. The pounding may be bad for my hips and knees, and is a strain on my back, but my enjoyment of running and the benefits it brings is more important than the negatives. When I can't run anymore I'll switch to walking.

When a doctor advises me to change something in my life, I tell them there are some things I'm willing to change, and some things I'm not willing to change (good thing I'm not a smoker :)) One's quality of life is important.

God has already numbered my days. We don't need to worry about that over much.

Now we're talkin'!
That solves that problem!
I wish every problem had such simple solutions.

A French Press and a tea ball should work well. I'm going to guess that a French press will work better.
I used to grow herbal teas in the back yard. I used tea balls for years but always thought they didn't allow enough water flow....at least the one I had.

That's awesome that you still run!

When I was running short distances, I found that bone broth and glucosamine/ hyaluronic acid supplements before & after the workout helped. I use the cuts of meat with the most cartilage. Beef hoof/ leg and pig ears if you can find them. Ask the butcher to cut them up into 2" lengths.
Otherwise, I could tell with the knee and hip pain that week too.

I read about this as well.
I use loose tea and use a metal tea infuser.

I have also read these nano plastics are in sea salt. :(

Isn't that crazy? I use sea salt because of price right now.
I'm very disappointed knowing that.
At least we know it and can make better choices.

I sampled and did my homework on many popular salts to make the best available as inventory in my store when that was my business/ ministry plan before setbacks.

I looked for the healthiest and safest options.
I don't know if it's been tested for microplastics, but doubt if it has any. Redmond salt is mined from Utah and should have no exposure to plastics other than for packaging. It has a broad micronutrient profile too.
It's more expensive, but was very low in fluoride and metals. Most table salts have flowing agents, Fl and Aluminum frequently added. Redmond bentonite clay is also good from my recollection.

I'm glad to hear that you use loose tea.
I used to. My local source went out of business and haven't looked for any online. It looks like there's one source posted above. Do you have any preferences?

My all time favorite was a set of tins my aunt Mary brought back from England. It was far and above the best tea I ever drank in my life. I kept the tins to remind me to look for it locally.
Here's a little history I found.

"Jacksons of Piccadilly Tea

Jacksons of Piccadilly is a renowned British tea brand with a rich history dating back over 200 years. Established by Robert Jackson in the late 18th century, the company has built a reputation for sourcing and blending high-quality teas, earning the royal warrant and becoming a favorite among royalty and discerning tea enthusiasts.

The tins are collectables now.
I should start an ebay store or something.

I used to make my own blends using ingredients I knew were good for one thing or another, like clover (improve blood flow) and raspberry leaf (antioxidants and improved circulation), with other things for flavour like mint and hibiscus, etc. One day I drank some of my concoction on an empty stomach and started walking to work... good thing a Subway was on the way because I had to use their washroom to throw up in.

Sorry you got sick, but the way you said it was funny.
You get an 🏆 for growing your own.
That's usually the best way unless you have a neighbor like mine.
He sprayed mine with poison.
