Thank you for your comforting words and prayers. They are greatly appreciated!
My pleasure, hope you're feeling better:)
I had to take several hours away, as I felt a heavy blow had been dealt. I feel that this site has banned a voice of wisdom. A presence that I held in the highest regard during my time here. A presence that will be greatly missed.
I haven't been here long to have a reference point. Sorry things are not what they used to be. Remember threads are started by different people. If you're not in agreement with one, move onto another or start your own. I found you by starting one😀 This is a place to find other Christians with a similar mindset (and there are many different mindsets; some in vain and some in the path of righteousness) There are also those who may not be Christians with the purpose of antagonizing those who are. You can tell someone's spirit by the words they speak. If they do not speak or do the things of Jesus Christ don't let their actions fester your spirit. Don't let someone else discourage your walk with God. As long as God is in your heart and you always seek the truth with the guidance of Jesus Christ you shouldn't let your heart worry😀 If you want to share what happened we can discuss it, if you want to keep it to yourself that is well, just want you to feel better:)
I might very well have ceased my activity on this site, if not for you. I will continue in this thread, day after day, for the duration of our study. God bless you for arriving on this site.
I'm glad you want to study together! I thank you for being here and reading His Word together🙏
Either way is perfectly fine! I don't think one way is better than the other, unless one way is better than the other for you!

I continue to be inspired that you've kept up with this study. That inspired feeling brings warmth.
That is kind of you to say! Thank God for it is Him that is giving me the strength to endure:)
I had been in the process of going over your notes. I think I will proceed with that and then after supper I'll do today's study.
I hope you enjoy your supper😀
I hope your day has gone well and the evening is peaceful and pleasant 🙏 Thank you! I hope you have a restful evening🌙

Something that might be interesting...

“At first sight this seems a very extraordinary provision. When the leprosy was beginning to show itself, and whilst the marks were hardly distinguishable, the poor patient was treated as unclean; but, when it had fully developed, from the crown of the head to the sole of the foot, the priest pronounced the leper clean. As long as we palliate and excuse our sins, and dream that there is much in us which is noble and lovely, we are not fit subjects for God’s saving grace…. we must confess that from the crown of our head to the sole of our foot we are full of need and sin – then we are nearest Christ, and in a fit condition to be richly blest, and made the channel of blessing to others." ~Meyer
Thanks for sharing!
18 Neither shalt thou take a wife to her sister, to vex her, to uncover her nakedness, beside the other in her life time.
Probably means that if you are married to a woman, don't marry her sister. This will cause rivalry. This is back in the days of polygamy.
That is what I was thinking, not sure what else I didn't understand. Thanks😀
Back then, human sacrifices were made to Molech (a Canaanite god). I watched a video about him in the past. The historian or presenter of the video said that the idol had fire within it. It held its arms out and when a baby was placed onto the arms of the idol, the idol would draw its arms back and the baby would go into it and thus into the fire. Of course, it was no doubt operated by someone (the arms and such). We will continue to read about human sacrifices as we go along. God is disgusted with such actions, of course. And we'll learn the result of such actions and God's disgust as we go along.

Yes. Respect mother and father. That's how I understand it.

"Pagans often employed divination and sorcery to try to determine what events would soon transpire. Divination and sorcery were widespread in the ancient Near East, particularly in Mesopotamia and Egypt." ~ Rooker
Meaning do not be a psychic?
vs.27 Ye shall not round the corners of your heads, neither shalt thou mar the corners of thy beard.
This imitated pagan customs. "This the Gentiles did, either for the worship of the devils or idols, to whom young men used to consecrate their hair, being cut off from their heads, as Homer, Plutarch, and many others write; or in funerals or immoderate mournings." ~Poole
Interesting thanks!
I would say it's speaking of adultery. It seems to be saying that to sleep with the brother's wife is like sleeping with the brother (while the brother and his wife are married).
That makes sense, thanks!
Splendid notes! They always help me expand my knowledge too.
Glad their helping! In Jesus name we learn more in righteousness🙏

I'm on Okie time (aka Central Time) and I made it before midnight lol. It's almost 11pm here.

Leviticus
Ch.21
vs.1-4 Priests should not make themselves unclean by touching a dead person. Rules are given for when they have to touch the body of a close dead relative.
vs.7 Priests are not to marry a whore or a divorced person.
vs.8 The daughter of a priest who plays a whore shall be burnt with fire.
vs.13 Priests should marry a virgin.
vs.14 In addition to the above, he shouldn't marry a widow either.
vs.15-20 These may not come to make offerings: blind, lame, flat nose, those with a broken foot or hand, hunchback, dwarf, has a blemish in an eye, has scurvy, had scabs, or has crushed testicles.
vs.21 Descendants of Aaron who have something wrong with them should not offer offerings to the Lord made by fire and they should not offer the bread to the Lord.

---

Ch. 22
Various more rules pertaining to the priests.
An unclean priest shall not eat of the holy things.
Strangers may not eat of the holy things. If a priest's daughter marries a stranger, she may not eat of the holy things.
Continued instructions for the holy things.
Clean animals without flaws/blemishes must be offered.

---

Ch. 23

The people are reminded to keep the Sabbath. The are reminded of the keeping of the feasts/holy days of the Lord, and reminded of the instructions on how to keep these days and on how offerings are to be made.

---

Ch. 24
Pure olive oil is to be used in the lamps of the tabernacle. Lamps are to burn continually.
Fine flour is to be used to make 12 cakes. They shall be set in 2 rows before the Lord. Frankincense should be put on each row. Every sabbath it is to be set it in order before the Lord continually. Aaron and his sons shall eat it in the holy place.

The son of an Israelite woman and Egyptian father blasphemed the name of the Lord and cursed. The Lord commanded that he be stoned. Anyone who blasphemes the name of the Lord must be stoned.

Life for life. Beast for beast, fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, etc.

---

Ch. 25
The Lord commands that every Sabbath year the people must give rest to the land for that year. In the Sabbath year, they were not allowed to reap or harvest. The Lord tells them that they will have plenty to eat in the Sabbath year, including the servants, strangers, and cattle.
vs.10 The 50th year shall be the year of jubilee. This is a year of freedom. People will get their freedom and property back. They were not to sow nor reap during jubilee. The Lord will command his blessing on the 6th year so that it brings forth enough for 3 years.

vs.35-55 Rules are given for slaves/slave owners.

---

Ch.26
Make no graven images/idols. Keep the Sabbath. Revere the Lord's holy place. Walk in the Lord's statues, keep His commandments. If the people do these things, the Lord will provide for them, multiply them, keep them safe, give them peace in the land, and their enemies will fall before them.
If they do not obey him, the Lord will appoint over them terror, disease, and illness, and destroy their eyes and cause their heart to sorrow. Seed will be sown in vain. They will be slain by their enemies and those that hate them shall rule over them. After this, if they still will not obey the Lord, He will punish them 7 times more.

Much more on this ahead, they do not obey God! And you will see what He talks about in the second half of this chapter does take place! Much sadness to read about.

---

Ch.27
This chapter deals "with persons and animals who have been vowed/dedicated to God. If the person making the vow wants to retain ownership of who or what is vowed, then they can convert the vow to money and pay that instead. The dedication of property to God begins with verse 14."

---

We've done 3 books so far!

---

Numbers
Ch.1
God commands Moses to take a census of all who are able to go to war.
Levites are not to be counted at this point. Levites are to camp around the tabernacle.

---

Ch.2
We are told the number of each camp, as well as who the captain is of each camp. And also, the arrangement of the camps according to the Lord.

---

Ch. 3
The Levites are counted and their duties are given to them.

Some interesting things about the priests and Levites...
"It is important to realize that the priests were only one small family among the Levites. To be a priest and to be a Levite were not the same thing at all. Only those who were descendants of Aaron could be priests."
There were important aspects of the Levite’s service and they also had the important responsibility of teaching God’s word to the people.
"They had to be permanently on guard, ready to kill any unauthorized person approaching the tent of meeting, its furniture or the altar."
"The firstborn of Israel were redeemed with a silver shekel, but under the new covenant the believer is redeemed with something far more costly and precious: the blood of Jesus Christ, as a lamb without blemish."

~~~~~~~~~~
I will take a break and then return and read your notes, which I'm looking forward to doing.
I don't know if you are more toward the south or more toward the north, but it's getting kinda chilly in my area (northern Oklahoma). I had to get the electric blanket out, which is on my lap as I type. I'm thankful to the Lord for those things!
Wherever you may be, I hope you are warm and comfy! 🙏
Blessings.
LEVITICUS CHAPTER 21 NOTES
v3 For kin that is near may he be defiled. Not clear on who “he” is in this verse (v4 says the opposite), the purpose of stating for near kin, and may defile in what manner for what reasons? Is it that near kin is the exception for the priest, still would wonder may defile in what manner for what reasons
vs.3 And for his sister a virgin, that is nigh unto him, which hath had no husband; for her may he be defiled.
He = the priest. In this particular verse, he may not make himself unclean unless in the case of close relatives and in this case it's specifically talking about a virgin sister.
"The purpose of these laws was to illustrate the purity and separation from sin that was to characterize the priest. A dead body is a picture of sin’s result in this world."
v4 “But he shall not defile himself, being a chief man among his people, to profane himself.” - I looked up that Catholic priests cannot marry. I do not believe that defile here is meaning copulating. It is relating to not being profane which lies within the definition of defile in this context. Profane meaning is relating or devoted to that which is not sacred or biblical; secular rather than religious; (of a person or their behavior) not respectful of orthodox religious practice; irreverent. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (Israel) all copulated. God also brings up near of kin father, brother, and sons may he be defiled, in this context, copulating is not valid; that would be an abomination unto God
I agree with you. I do not agree with the Catholics. Old Testament priests and prophets married and had sexual relations with their wife. I think there are 3 prophets that we will come across in the Old Testament that did not marry, but it had nothing to do with any such reasons as pertain to the Catholics. God created marriage and copulation. In fact, we weren't given very many rules in the very beginning before sin entered world. We weren't supposed to eat of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
And in Genesis 1:28, we were told to be fruitful and multiply.
Among the things God first created was marriage and copulation. So, it's interesting how some belief systems don't allow this. The Shakers was a group that practiced celibacy. They had that silly notion of putting female aspects into the Godhead. The founder, Ann Lee, is believed to be the embodiment of Christ and thus "fulfilling the female aspect of God." There's some of that mother god nonsense!
I mention the Shakers because look what happened to them. They began sometime in the 1700s, if my memory serves, and didn't believe in copulating and now they are only 2 members :unsure:
LEVITICUS CHAPTER 23 NOTES
v7 “In the first day ye shall have an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein.” - First day of Abib or feast of unleavened bread? (I think it’s the latter) Need to review what was discussed about this beforehand.
I'm pretty sure the feast of unleavened bread begins on a different day.
Researching...yes, it begins Abib/Nisan 15 (the day before this is Passover). We will read this again in Numbers 28.
v16 “Even unto the morrow after the seventh sabbath shall ye number fifty days; and ye shall offer a new meat offering unto the Lord.” - Instructions for meat offering. Is it saying 7th sabbath from first sabbath in Abib? Seven is significant again - 7th day, 7th sabbath, 7th month
I believe this is talking about the feast of Weeks (Pentecost in the NT) which is celebrated in the month of Sivan.
v17 “Ye shall bring out of your habitations two wave loaves of two tenth deals; they shall be of fine flour; they shall be baken with leaven; they are the firstfruits unto the Lord.” - First time I recall that God approves leaven being used (Biscuits approved😀). They were called wave-loaves, because they were presented to God by waving them toward heaven (not sure if this is accurate)
Yes! I am so delighted! There is a place for me :giggle:
LEVITICUS CHAPTER 24 NOTES
v3 Not clear on the meaning
vs.3 Without the vail of the testimony, in the tabernacle of the congregation, shall Aaron order it from the evening unto the morning before the Lord continually: it shall be a statute for ever in your generations.
“The ‘testimony’ was a technical term for the Ten Commandments placed in the Ark. ~Rooker
"It was important that the light from the oil lamps shined continually. God did not want His tabernacle to be left in darkness. The continual light of the tabernacle points toward Christ."
LEVITICUS CHAPTER 24 NOTES
v12 Not clear on the meaning “And they put him in ward…”
They put him in custody ..."the man's actions prompted a formal inquiry, reflecting the meticulous legal processes established in Israelite society. It serves to highlight the importance of judicial prudence and due process."
LEVITICUS CHAPTER 25 NOTES
v35 Not clear on the meaning
vs.35 And if thy brother be waxen poor, and fallen in decay with thee; then thou shalt relieve him: yea, though he be a stranger, or a sojourner; that he may live with thee.
"Instead of making profit from the misery of a poor brother, the command is to help him."
NUMBER CHPATER 3 NOTES
v12 “And I, behold, I have taken the Levites from among the children of Israel instead of all the firstborn that openeth the matrix among the children of Israel: therefore the Levites shall be mine;” - Not sure what the meaning of “instead” is here
v41 “And thou shalt take the Levites for me (I am the Lord) instead of all the firstborn among the children of Israel; and the cattle of the Levites instead of all the firstlings among the cattle of the children of Israel.” - Not clear the meaning
v45 “Take the Levites instead of all the firstborn among the children of Israel, and the cattle of the Levites instead of their cattle; and the Levites shall be mine: I am the Lord.” - not clear on the meaning
v46 Not clear on the meaning
v47-51 Not clear on the meaning and purpose of the redemption money in regard to the Levites
In the law of Moses, God had a special claim to the firstborn of Israel. This was true of both man and beast. This demonstrated the principle that God has a claim to the first and best of our blessings. Levi, the son of Israel and ancestor of the tribe of Israel, was not the firstborn among his brothers. Yet God chose the Levites as His own, and regarded them as a replacement for the firstborn of the nation as a whole.
i. Allen notes that the words instead of serve as a clear example of substitution in the Hebrew Scriptures (cf. Genesis 22:13: ‘a ram…instead of his son’)
---
vs.46 And as a redemption price for the 273 of the firstborn of the sons of Israel who are in excess of the number of the Levites.
"There were 22,273 firstborn sons in Israel; and there were only 22,000 Levite males (Num.3:39). There were more firstborn sons than Levite males [by 273]."
NUMBER CHPATER 3 NOTES
v47-51 Not clear on the meaning and purpose of the redemption money in regard to the Levites
Something I read that's interesting...
"The redemption money typified the fact that redemption is costly. Moses and Aaron were instructed to number all the firstborn from among the tribes of Israel. The number exceeding the number of Levites who would serve as the substitutes for them, the Lord told Israel to make up the difference with the amount of money set by the Lord. This act showed that the souls of men must be redeemed by a substitute of suitable value. The Levites, smaller in number than all the firstborn of the children of Israel, were not sufficient substitutes unless there was a one-for-one substitution. The reference to the redemption money is linked to the work of Christ, who is a suitable sacrifice for all His people."
Yes. Anything like that is to be avoided. You will see all through the Bible we are warned of this.
Thank you for your comforting words and prayers. They are greatly appreciated!
My pleasure, hope you're feeling better:)
I had to take several hours away, as I felt a heavy blow had been dealt. I feel that this site has banned a voice of wisdom. A presence that I held in the highest regard during my time here. A presence that will be greatly missed.
I haven't been here long to have a reference point. Sorry things are not what they used to be. Remember threads are started by different people. If you're not in agreement with one, move onto another or start your own. I found you by starting one😀 This is a place to find other Christians with a similar mindset (and there are many different mindsets; some in vain and some in the path of righteousness) There are also those who may not be Christians with the purpose of antagonizing those who are. You can tell someone's spirit by the words they speak. If they do not speak or do the things of Jesus Christ don't let their actions fester your spirit. Don't let someone else discourage your walk with God. As long as God is in your heart and you always seek the truth with the guidance of Jesus Christ you shouldn't let your heart worry😀 If you want to share what happened we can discuss it, if you want to keep it to yourself that is well, just want you to feel better:)
I might very well have ceased my activity on this site, if not for you. I will continue in this thread, day after day, for the duration of our study. God bless you for arriving on this site.
I'm glad you want to study together! I thank you for being here and reading His Word together🙏
Either way is perfectly fine! I don't think one way is better than the other, unless one way is better than the other for you!
I continue to be inspired that you've kept up with this study. That inspired feeling brings warmth.
That is kind of you to say! Thank God for it is Him that is giving me the strength to endure:)
I had been in the process of going over your notes. I think I will proceed with that and then after supper I'll do today's study.
I hope you enjoy your supper😀
I hope your day has gone well and the evening is peaceful and pleasant 🙏 Thank you! I hope you have a restful evening🌙
Thank you so much again for the blessing of your words.
And again for the blessing of this thread.
I don't know what I can say, except I feel like this site suffered a great loss yesterday.
Beyond that, though, the theme of my year has been loss. Sometimes that has meant through death (my father) and sometimes it doesn't mean through death. Even through the gloomy occurrences, I know the Lord is with me. There is no doubt in my mind or in my heart.
I'm certainly not without hope and I'm not entirely without cheer and I intend to press on...day after day. Despite being in a fallen world, we still have too much to experience that is smashing to be/feel defeated.
We've got quite a journey ahead.
Your last notes were even more superb than the previous days!
I remember when I first decided to read the Bible all the way through. I did so alone. I had no idea of any place such as this and I'm a pretty solitary person anyway. Sometimes, I can be too solitary.
So, I am honored to be on this journey with you. I'd share some lamb, if could...but not the biscuits ;) lol
May your day ahead go smoothly and superbly!
Blessings.
Yes. Anything like that is to be avoided. You will see all through the Bible we are warned of this.
Thank you so much again for the blessing of your words.
And again for the blessing of this thread.
I don't know what I can say, except I feel like this site suffered a great loss yesterday.
Beyond that, though, the theme of my year has been loss. Sometimes that has meant through death (my father) and sometimes it doesn't mean through death. Even through the gloomy occurrences, I know the Lord is with me. There is no doubt in my mind or in my heart.
I'm certainly not without hope and I'm not entirely without cheer and I intend to press on...day after day. Despite being in a fallen world, we still have too much to experience that is smashing to be/feel defeated.
We've got quite a journey ahead.
@HeIsHere Thank you! There are many things I could say about this loss. To try to keep it a bit more on the lighthearted side though, I'll just say that in the world of Whangdoodles (for those who know of our saga)...the chieftess is without the master :cry:
And thus, the Whangdoodles are going to take over! :p:eek:
