C'mon, you know it's stealing if you look at it from their point of view.

The Netflix password is pretty black and After I read the definition of household, which needs to be in the same address because I was sharing with my brother who is at a different address so that’s pretty clear.

The digital downloads, Holy Spirit said to me also is not appropriate just because it’s widely done online and even on YouTube, but I’ll stop doing that as well.

Not working when you’re supposed to be working during work hours is also theft and I bet everybody on this forum does it

Like being on Christian chat during work hours is theft, stealing time from your employer so stop!

As we conclude study of 8th commandment at church.

My pastor said this was stealing… and a sin… Netflix says if not same you sold than illegal. Thoughts? I never thought of it…
?
How is this a sin, or stealing, if you share your password willingly?
Maybe i'm misunderstanding you?

For example. I have a Netflix account.
I can share this account's password with my kids, parents or cousins.
How is this stealing?

So I read the terms of service, and apparently sharing with a household member (same address) is permitted, not same address is not permitted. I was using my bothers password (not same address).

Which he shared voluntarily… I could pay for 1/2 of the service my cousin said, but that’s just justifying the work around and not the intent.

Your are expected to purchase your own license.

Oh, i see.
Well this was a thing since like 3-5 years ago, during covid actually when people stayed indoors.
Netflix being greedy, wanted more money and subscribers so they were detecting account streaming from different IPs and they started to crack down.
Many people complained on social platform, they lost many subscribers because of this and so far they haven't changed their position.
But no, it's not stealing because they say it's stealing. They want more money is the point.
And i'm not sure how aggressive they are in terms of IP lookups due to the complains they received on social media, because my in-laws use the account in a different address with a different IP and ISP.
So far they haven't told me anything.
If they want to shut down my account, i could care less anyway since i don't watch much Netflix. The only reason i have it is because i get it from free from T-Mobile.

A few years ago you could add guests to your account and they did not have to be in the same house, city, or even
country. This no sharing rule is only recent and they have also introduced a reduced rate version by accepting ads.

What are your thoughts? Do you think this is stealing if you violate their terms of service?

Is your pastor an IT specialist? Is he familiar with how the internet works?
Is he familiar with streaming platforms, their fees and their drive for profit?
More importantly how is his condemnation level in regards to his pride when it comes to a million different topics in our daily life?

Because my priest, is honest when he doesn't know something. He says pray over it and if God tells you through your conscience that it's a sin, then confess and try to avoid the sin.
He starts his liturgies with "Brothers and Sisters, please forgive me if i have sinned against you for anything i've said".

Pastor said integrity is what you do when no one’s looking, but God is always looking. I’ll just stop using the password or pay, now I am aware. I don’t want any known sins hanging over me.

Are you rationalizing? Because say you shared the password with 2,10,50,100 etc…

Am I’m not judging because I’m already doing it… just trying to find out

Well think about it.
Do you know 50 people? 100 people? If you do and you share your account with them and on top of it you might even charge them money, then yeah now you're driven by profit not Netflix.
But if you don't know 50 people to share your account with and you share it with only 8, like me, who are family then i don't have a guilty conscience.
But, as you said, you need to do what your conscience tells you since you know all the details and the moral issues that can arise from your actions.

You’re bringing up a very important point Eli…
Which is my conscience never bothered me about this until it was brought up during the sermon.

What the point I’m trying to figure out is what is the line?… The law should not be different for everyone’s interpretation… am I correct?

What are your thoughts? Do you think this is stealing if you violate their terms of service?
I think this was discussed earlier in the thread, but I think you have to turn every situation around and see yourself from the other side.

If you were offering something that was meant for one household only and that was written into your own terms of service, would you consider it stealing if one household was paying you for the one product/subscription, and but sharing it with 4 (or even 1) other households?

I would think that yes, it would be stealing from you, because they would be depriving you of income that, under the terms and conditions, is due to you. You're getting payment for 1 thing when you should be getting payment for each household using it.

I know that no one can be perfect in every area but it's funny how God convicts us.

I had my last day of work at a place, punched out, went to my car (at the back of the parking lot) and was ready to drive home, but God pointed out a couple of pens I had in my car from work. I was tired, had a lot on my mind, and a ton of work to do at home -- I just wanted to GO. But God clearly convicted me and told me to go back in and return those pens, because they belonged to my place of work and not to me.

I know it seems like a petty thing.

But God turned it around and pretty much said, "How much do you like when people steal from you?" God doesn't care how big the corporation is, or how much money they have. To Him, stealing is stealing, whether it's a penny or a billion dollars.

I know a couple of pens aren't a big deal. But a couple of pens... multiplied by 100 employees, several pens a week... still adds up to a business cost, and if I were the business owner, I wouldn't want to have to be continuously buying things that people took for their own -- even accidentally.

I'm also a firm believer in reaping what we sow. God understand we can't be perfect, but if He convicts us in an area and we justify a way to steal, I truly believe it will come back to us in some way. Even just getting a cold can prevent us from going to work, and therefore rob us of lost income potential.

Even more arbitrary is the saving of a CD from a library when the music is publicly available online for viewing for free…. I have some trouble with viewing as immortal.

I’m told unrepentant sins … may be blocking a blessing from God… I searched my heart before and it didn’t come up, but after the sermon I felt the conviction.

What the point I’m trying to figure out is what is the line?… The law should not be different for everyone’s interpretation… am I correct?
I asked earlier about your pastor's sense of pride and judgmental level.
That's where the line is!
Because there are some people, in this forum too , who make a distinctions between murder and killing.
When i read that, my eyes pop out of their sockets, fall on the floor and then i have to grab them again and put them back in their sockets.
Ask your pastor if he sees a difference between murder and killing and see what he says and then compare that with what your conscience tell you in relation to your understanding of the Bible and more specifically what Jesus taught us, who didn't come here to seek revenge or kill people.

You hope and pray that you never have to take someone's life because once you cross that line, you're on a different level which i don't see any good coming out of it.
So you hope and pray that you're never ever put in a situation where you have to take someone's life even for self defense of the family.
You also hope and pray that you're never ever put in a situation where you have to consider assisted suicide for a family member suffering from cancer or other painful diagnosis.

So, keep praying and then God will let you know and guide you through your conscience on how to deal with this Netflix topic.

One way or another it is dishonest for sure. I have Netflix because I was signed up to it by somebody else in 2018 when guests were allowed on accounts. I think you did pay a little bit extra for that privilege, hough the account was not originally in my name so I was not paying anything... although I did eventually take over the account, and I still to this day pay the bill, and I may even be paying for somebody else to be a guest even though they have not used the site for at least 4 years and almost 5 now... Because their name is still visible when I have to sign in which isn't very often because I never sign out LOL. A third person was on my account at 1 point but I had no idea who it was and I managed to get them kicked off.
