But that doesn't change what that horrible, yet divinely inspired "adulterer and murderer" wrote in terms of who is qualified to dwell with God. Unrepentant sinners never will!
Indeed the new covenant is based upon the sure mercy given to David when he confessed his sins and repented after he did God said of David even after all his sin he said David kept his commandments and followed after him as one with a heart for God but the thing is David was crushed by the weight of his sins and eventually repented ( psalm 51) he pours out his heart that’s broken by his sin to God fully confessing every fiber of his being and asking God for mercy
“
Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; ( John 5:24) and
I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.”
Isaiah 55:3 KJV
when david his his sin and didn’t confess or acknolwedge it he was crushed within himself but then he acknolwedged and confessed his sin and God forgave him
“
Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, Whose sin is covered.
When I kept silence, my bones waxed old Through my roaring all the day long. For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me: My moisture is turned into the drought of summer. Selah.
I acknowledged my sin unto thee, And mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; And thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah.
For this shall every one that is godly pray unto thee in a time when thou mayest be found: Surely in the floods of great waters they shall not come nigh unto him.”
Psalm 32:1, 3-6 KJV
Christian’s are taught the same thing that if we sin and confess we will be forgiven and cleansed but if we refuse to acknowledge our sin we’re making God a liar. Because he deemed what sin is beforehand
“but
if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and
the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.”
1 John 1:7-10 KJV
david is a fascinating figure and the New Testament is based upon his relationship with God he began and was chosen king then he started looking with his eyes at Bathsheba and coveted her another man’s wife , which led to commiting adultery with her and then concocting several dishonest schemes to hide the fact she got pregnant with his kid then when that didn’t work , david plots and orders her husbands death who was Uriah the Hittite a man of God.
david messed up more than most normal. Sinners after God chose him as king. This should be encouraging to us because God never thre him away and after all was said and done for David this is Gods witness of him
“and yet thou hast not been as
my servant David, who kept my commandments, and who followed me with all his heart, to do that only which was right in mine eyes;”
1 Kings 14:8
No mention of the sins he repented of only that he followed the lord with all his heart kept the commandments and tried with all he had to do only what was right on Gods sight .
we do have to repent but first we have to look at our own actions in the light of the gospel which is hard for many to do and so confessing sin from the heart is also hard if we won’t acknolwedge and confess we can’t ever repent and be forgiven
