Martin Luther the German reformer had no intention of causing the schism and bloodshed that would follow as his only intent was to simply have the Roman Catholic church reform from their errors. What causes Luther a Roman Catholic himself come to these conclusions?

As Rome began to collapse, Christianity from North Africa and the Middle East began to fall under the control of Islam starting in 600 A.D. which began to threaten South Europe with the fall of Constantinople in 1453 A.D.

The Sultan of the Ottoman Empire Mehmed ll had his eyes on Italy with the conquest of Rome. Hoping to become a Ceasar type of ruler and an empire like Rome.

Despite the fall of Constantinople and attacks on Spain, the Europeans held off the Ottomans.

With the fall of Constantinople, the Byzantine Empire a Greek culture was already experiencing a renaissance in itself by the interest in ancient texts and translation of older manuscripts. Due to the fall and collapse of the empire, the Byzantines would migrate west in the 1300-1400s and began to settle in places like Italy giving rise to the Italian Renaissance that would spread Northward to Germany.

Textual Criticism and invention of the European printing press (1450) sparked the movement to translate the works of the past which gave rise to the interest of Martin Luther (1483-1546) and the Reformation.

Before then the Roman Catholic church had control over the Bible. The Bible was often found in Monasteries, chained to the pulpit, or only in the hands of kings and the religious elite.

Many people came before Martin Luther which influenced the Reformation but Luther was the final straw to spark it. Protestantism would quickly divide the church. Massive protests would take place (protest)antism would be met with bloodshed as the Roman Catholic church tried to regain control.

Martin Luther wasn't a perfect man but his conscience was to the accuracy of the Word of God. That is where we all should take our stand.

My Dearly Beloved Christians, from these words of our Divine Savior, it has already been proved to you, that faith is necessary for salvation. And without faith there is no salvation. Without faith there is eternal damnation. Read your own Protestant Bible [Mark 16:16], and you will find it stronger there than in the Catholic Bible.

Now then, what kind of faith must a man have to be saved? Will any faith do? Why, if any faith will do, the devil himself will be saved, for the Bible says the devils believe and tremble. [James 2:19]

It is, therefore, not a matter of indifference what religion a man professes. He must profess the right and true religion, and without that, there is no hope of salvation. For it stands to reason, my dear people, that if God reveals a thing or teaches a thing, He wants you to believe it. Not to believe, is to insult God.

CANON XXIX.-If any one saith, that he, who has fallen after baptism, is not able by the grace of God to rise again; or, that he is able indeed to recover the justice which he has lost, but by faith alone without the sacrament of Penance, contrary to what the holy Roman and universal Church-instructed by Christ and his Apostles-has hitherto professed, observed, and taugh; let him be anathema.

A trail of blood and sacrifice, we in the US have it so easy.

I could not agree more. It may take some tougher times to get us back to GOD>

That may change faster than expected but so far, as all Hallows Eve should remind us, the death of the martyrs will not go in vain.

Sorry but I don't understand this..

I pray for revival but I know that God's will is supreme.

I meant that coming out of October the church once turned the pagan festivals of the Celts into a day of honoring the dead once called All Hallows Eve or All Saints Day. Hallow meaning to make holy; to set apart for holy or religious use; to consecrate; to treat or keep as sacred; to reverence. This was the original meaning of Halloween.

To all the saints who have been killed due to their efforts to advance the gospel, which was once revered but now has become at best fall festivals and at worst returned to pagan practices.

Much like how Christmas has now become Happy Holidays, Thanksgiving has become a symbol of genocide, and Resurrection Sunday is now just Easter eggs and a bunny who hides them.

The church tried to convert paganism by coming up with counter festivals/traditions that teach spiritual truths but now we are slowly slipping back into paganism.

A Christian nation has become merely spiritual of all things but only in the sense of the prosperity of self. The only self-improvement going on is not to be changed by God but merely to improve a self-made image.

Anyways sorry for the word salad.
