I’m currently looking to serve in some capacity but I haven’t a clue what God wants me to do. Is anyone else in this boat or know of any opportunities that may be worth getting involved in?

Perhaps Long Beach Polytechnic HS? The Pike? Something in Bixby Knolls? Something on Ocean Blvd? Pacific Coast Highway? Just show up and ask about any openings. Sometimes you catch someone hiring bby total surprise.

I haven’t from business to business like that in ten years but I bet it is worth a try. Been so reliant on technology for just about everything, that I forgot what things are like without a smartphone or laptop with internet. It’s gotten so bad that I resorted to text messages as my main form of communication. Took dating someone who prefers phone calls, to finally break free from texting so much.

I'm sure you are already doing all the job sites? LinkedIn Indeed, etc?
Yeah, I have both of those with a filled out resume and profiles. I don’t know why but apart of me doesn’t want to work. Like I have things really good right now cause I’m able to spend time in scripture and watch sermons and listen to worship music all day. I found out this year that God provides for my needs even when I am not earning money. I know working would give me purpose but I haven’t really thought of what I want to do since I have freewill. It’s like what do you do with your time when you can literally do anything? I’ve been mostly on my bed resting. So I’m seeing what I can do with my time to be a light in the world, instead of just a light at home.

brother, I know exactly how you feel. LIke you want to grow MORE if your faith, but I will tell you what God also told me as I was praying for the blessing a good full time job. He said to me, like I my faith required action.

Basically, we are to work for God... this may be in terms of looking for job, improving your skills, cleaning your house or doing household work. But chatting even on CC is considered leisure and you do this on your own free time. Basically he told me NOT to be lazy, while I may not be working for an income, I still need to be active.

Try to put 8 hours day of WORK.. like your working for an employer... its not easy you will find it.

When I see in the Bible that it’s not by works but by grace that we have salvation, then I’m like well what’s the point of working if I’m going to go to heaven anyways, ya know? I’ve been trying to wrap my head around that verse for a year now and so far I can’t get passed it, cause God has been faithful and provided for all of my needs. When I woke up this morning I did think about buying a bench where I can bench press weights. I also composed 52 songs in the past year so it’s not like I did nothing but that was more so like a hobby that I got really good at.

Working out is a good thing man, so I would definitely do that, and taking care of your your body your mind and your soul they all work together. I was on a big time exercise thing for a while, listening to David Goggins.

I just feel like laziness is getting the best of me lately. It’s like when you repent from one sin, another becomes more noticeable. For the longest time I’ve been working on defeating sexual immorality and ever since I turned away from it, I noticed how lazy I’ve become.

David Goggin’s is definitely an inspiration. That man is beast of will power.

I figure if I get my body fit, and disciplined, that I won’t be as lazy, cause it is ridiculous lately. I literally have been lying in bed all day for the past month after a dating relationship ended and a friendship ended with one of my closest friends after I rebuked him. I don’t think I’m depressed though, just tired.

You just gotta be careful with Goggins because like his whole messages basically is look you have an amazing ability to do things within your own self discipline. I think as long as you can channel that energy correctly, but also look to God for guidance then it could be a good thing. However, as Goggins is not known to be a Christian sometimes it could be a fine line because his messages ….which is like no one’s there to save you, stop feeling sorry for yourself so go save yourself, and get off your ass.

Per Chat GPT.. hahah

David Goggins’ message of self-empowerment and mental toughness focuses on discipline, personal responsibility, and pushing through challenges to achieve greatness. His approach emphasizes human potential and resilience, which can inspire many. However, there could be areas where his teachings conflict with biblical teachings, depending on how his message is interpreted.

1. Self-Reliance vs. Reliance on God: Goggins’ philosophy often highlights relying on one’s own strength to overcome adversity, whereas biblical teachings emphasize relying on God for strength. Verses like Philippians 4:13 (“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”) suggest that Christians should look to God for empowerment, rather than solely depending on themselves.
2. Pride vs. Humility: The Bible encourages humility and giving glory to God for one’s accomplishments (James 4:6). Goggins’ focus on personal achievement could be seen as promoting self-glorification or pride, which may conflict with the biblical call to live humbly and recognize God’s sovereignty.
3. Endurance and Perseverance: Both messages encourage endurance and perseverance. Goggins emphasizes pushing through physical and mental barriers, while the Bible calls for spiritual endurance, often in the context of faith in God (Romans 5:3-4). The difference lies in the motivation—Goggins promotes perseverance for personal success, while the Bible encourages perseverance for the sake of faith and godliness.

There are overlapping themes of endurance and hard work, but a Christian might reconcile Goggins’ teachings by incorporating them into a framework of faith, seeing personal discipline as a way to honor God, while still relying on God’s guidance and strength.

I usually look inside myself and rely on the Holy Spirit to guide me in everything. Probably why I brought all this up cause it is something that I need to process and work on. I’m a man of action, at least at the moment. Quit pornography, quit masturbation, quit coffee, broke up with a woman who claimed she was a Christian yet invited me to a rave after church, rebuked my best friend for saying he was a follower of Christ, yet committing acts that I wouldn’t even partake in before I was a Christian, and weaning off of three different psyche medications all in the same month. So there have been some tough decisions that the spirit has led me to do. By the way, when it comes to the psyche meds, I’m doing it under a psychiatrists supervision and will be dropping three medications for one. I say that for anyone reading who takes psyche meds to not wean off on your own. Always communicate with your psychiatrist or your nurse practitioner before making any decisions like that.

I was only able to do those things because of the strength that God gave me. Now I’m just resting I guess from all of these tough things that God helped me cut out.

True story I was like really into Goggins and I was like really into self help. I started listening to Eastern philosophy and then there was like this yogi on YouTube Sadguru. I was searching which book I should buy and or read in Audible… and I swear the Holy Spirit spoke to me and said the Bible. This was before I reconnected with God in a meaningful way and before I started going to church.

Definitely want to replace them with good habits and people who take following Jesus seriously. Which is why I started coming on this website. I figure I’d replace pornography and masturbation for aerobic and anaerobic exercises, coffee for iced tea and those two people that walked out of my life for all of you guys.

I was really into self help myself. Listen to several dozen books on self help after reading “How to win friends and influence people.” After I read that book and having my heart broken by a previous girlfriend, I went sleeping around with as many women as possible. When I finally found a girlfriend, she found my affirmations list that I read out loud every day and our relationship was over after that. It was literally hedonistic and prideful. Right when I accepted Jesus as my lord and savior over ten years ago, I went from sleeping with dozens and dozens of women, addicted to alcohol and drugs to completely quitting all of it cold turkey. I’ve been celibate ever since and went on my first date in ten year last month. Traded alcohol for Diet Coke, then Diet Coke for iced tea. This past month reminded me of the radical transformation that Jesus did in me over ten years ago but again ten years later. I’m still much of a work in progress, especially my body which is way out of shape and this laziness I have become over time.
