I'm always intrigued how, "No one ones the day or the hour (except the Father)" -- Matthew 24:36 -- ALWAYS seems to get turned into, "God has given ME special insight into being able to predict when the day and hour/end times is going to be."

I always wonder... how close is this to the edge of soothsaying or fortune telling -- which is clearly forbidden in the Bible?

Now I surely believe in prophets and after all, God gave Noah special insight into the end of the world at the time (the flood,) but I've never ran into any modern person whose predictions were 100% accurate. In each case, things had to be twisted like a pretzel in order to meet their predictions rather than an obvious observation to anyone that their "prophecy" had come true. I personally believe that if a prophecy comes true, it will be so obvious that an unbeliever could understand it.

I was once part of a church that was heavily into prophesy and words of knowledge -- which I certainly do believe exists.

But what I also observed is that far too many people seem to become drunk on the power/high it seems to give them to have "special knowledge" from God. Everyone else was pitied because they just weren't as "advanced," "close to God," or "didn't have as much faith" as they did. I fell victim to this too when the church was encouraging me to my "own" "prophetic skills."

When I took a good hard look at the Old Testament and was reminded the the consequences for giving false prophecies was DEATH, I became much, much more reserved in ever trying to claim "God told me" something about anything.

Do I think God speaks to me? Absolutely. But now I just make sure I leave a very wide open gate for my own human error if ever trying to convey that to someone else.

Yes, many Christians are consumed with things that make them a public figure so as to showcase their spirituality or how much more special they are to God than everyone else.
I saw a post here of someone asking to be taught how to be a prophet. He then lists off the other fruits of the spirit he has already learned. He treated them like a collection to be obtained by choice rather than something God gave them. And, of course, had to throw in all the others he learned. Seemed like a trophy case of spirituality proving how many medals he's won from God. And he's going for the gold.

But the "special revelation" types are certainly most prominent and frequent. And all of them are equally confident that God picked them to be special.
Though this guy in here has taken it to the next level. "I can't prove it to you because when it happens you'll all be dead". How convenient.

1 he came to a singles section (people who may more easily be swayed, supposedly)
2 he posted a typical singles type thread to draw people in
3 using that he subtly introduced a special revelation from God
4 leaned heavily into end times 'they're coming for you' ideas
5 believes most won't believe him
6 tries to draw more in by teasing what he knows about the future to prove himself
7 openly refuses to go into detail publicly and only willing to share with people that he thinks will believe him
8 despite claims that he's not here to convince anyone, he nonetheless continues to feed into the drama

I mean come on. This screams cult leader wannabe. And with the heavy emphasis on Christian suffering makes for a perfect basis for things like we've seen in Waco or Jim Jones.
I'm not saying it will go that far, just that the tactics and beliefs used are similar to the OPs.
I mean how many people want to be a part of a special revelation that only a few will ever get to hear and understand? You, too, must be special to follow that. And who better to lead than the man that taught it to you. For he must be the most special of us all to have received it.

Lol was it His people were removed from the calamity or was the calamity removed from His people? There is a difference.

The belief is the "rapture" takes place first and removes His people and yet that has never happened, the wicked were removed aka "raptured" but His people remained.

Go look at Jesus's words again the wicked are removed first (the tares) are uprooted first and burned then the wheat are then brought in His barn.

So I wouldn't want to be part of the "rapture" thank you.

Let's look as well at the Lord Jesus's prayer thy kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven.

I see that much of the Bible has transcendental fulfillment, meaning it happens more than once and already did...

There is no real proof that the Revelations 3:10 is pertaining to the "rapture" that is just an association many have been taught based on Margaret McDonald visions and as said she was discredited at the time by those Christians who associated her visions being from the devil.

Then there is the book of Daniel where it states we will go through the tribulation period...

However I understand I once believed all this myself but no longer... So feel free to keep hoping for the "rapture" if you so wish. I myself will prepare and do what I can to survive through the tribulation period.

Hi Valour-Dare, welcome to the forums!

I get being troubled by the times we live in. Yes, I do expect a coming storm. Do I think it will be the final "storm" before Jesus comes back? Who knows...... those who saw WW1 & WW2 coming may have felt the same way, yet here we are.

We are called to keep our lamps trimmed and full of oil, but that doesn't mean we cease to live. Has God told you not to date or marry? If not then perhaps it's an option for you. Submit yourself to His will, but don't talk yourself out of a blessing..... doing so can actually be a type of false morality. Not judging though, I'm prone to it myself!

As a teenager, I heard a lot about the end times. Always thinking the world was about to end kinda left me feeling like anything I did was a waste of time. Eventually I learned to seek His guidance for whatever He wanted me to do or decide THAT DAY. I found a lot of peace in that, and I hope you will too. God still has a plan for you, even if it all ends next week .

P.S. Even the wise virgins with plenty of oil were allowed to sleep...... don't get yourself so wound up in discerning the times that you're unable to rest or accomplish whatever God has for you!

I think to find a relationship and to withstand the current pressures largely is on an individual basis and what she values… however the reality is which is what I was referring to - one needs to have money in order to provide as the man. That is currently my problem as I am looking for work online.

Let's be honest how many women want to struggle with food and be very limited in what they can experience because of financial limitations?
