It's hard for me to chose just one, but if I have to, I think I'd go with A Mighty Fortress is Our God.

A Mighty Fortress is Our God - Acappella - YouTube <--- click

Not for it's writer either, but rather it's melody and lyrical content.

Runner's up:

Am I a Soldier of the Cross
Be Thou My Vision
A Mind at Perfect Peace with God
O Come O Come Emmanuel
We are By Christ Redeemed
None but Christ can Satisfy
Draw Me Nearer
Pass Me Not O Gentle Savior

EDIT: Most of the above can be found at saintssserving.net in acapella

I really like Acapella as you can see.

I quite like Ein Feste Burg ist Unser Gott as well (I prefer it in German). We actually sang it at Mass a couple of weeks ago as the processional hymn.

'And Can It Be That I Should Gain?'
- I think the words are from Charles Wesley (1734)

And can it be that I should gain
An interest in the Savior’s blood?
Died He for me, who caused His pain—
For me, who Him to death pursued?
Amazing love! How can it be,
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?
Amazing love! How can it be,
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?

(1st part only)

I would figure that would be a lot like pouring salt on an open wound. I actually was hesitant at first as to whether I should present it as my pick.

I've never heard it in German. I've heard some of the Piano/acoustic/Pipe organ renditions and I don't like those near as much as I do the Acapella I found with the Mennonites.

I do like the Pipe Organ in most cases though, and I must admit, that is one of the things I like about Catholic/Anglican/Episcopalian/sometimes methodists and presbyterian churches/cathedrals, is the usage of the Pipe Organ.

An example of the last statement:
O Come, O Come Emmanuel - Methodist Hymn - YouTube

EDIT:
Many years ago, when I was still living in Smith County, Kansas.. my dads uncle (my uncle 1 time removed, I think) had a daughter getting married. That side of the family is Irish Catholic, and the wedding was at the Cathedral of the Plains.

It was pretty cool, I have to say. Although the wedding seemed abnormally long. It was quite odd that the German and English side of the family didn't get on their knees when the Irish side did, and I never understood that until I myself began to profess faith in Christ.

We're not as cranky as you might think.:D But if you like Pipe organ/Piano then you'd like Catholic music, since those are the only two instruments normally allowed to be used.

Oh! I just remembered another one.

Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty.

I'll be honest with you, I've considered going to the Methodist churches here near campus (I'm currently at SEMO in Cape Girardeau) just for the pipe organ, but I'm not sure I could stand the liberal theology, and the prosperity gospel just for some music I like. I tried a CoC last weekend, I liked the Acapella singing, but not some of the theology stuff. They were really nice people from what I encountered.

EDIT: Found out there's a Catholic Cathedral near my dorm, but It looks too small for a good Pipe Organ.

im not sure if these count, because they're not hymns, but they are christian worship songs.

tim hughes - God of Justice

matt redman - we are the free

Jesus culture - one thing remains

Honestly if your looking for traditional music and instruments and your a conservative Protestant your almost S.O.L. If theres a LCMS church near you they would have traditional music and conservative Protestant theology.

Also I'm surprised that a Cathedral would be too small for a pipe organ, considering they're generally the largest Catholic Church in the area (or at least the oldest and most beautiful). But digital pipe organs can accomplish some amazing things, and if the Cathedral has a decent sound system you would be hard pressed to tell the difference between the real pipe organ and the digital one.

But if you really want to see beauty and great music you would have to find a Basilica, like the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. Home-National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception

I have a list my favorite hymns. The list has no value other than as an expression of personal taste English is not my native language but my favorite hymns worship right now is "Blessed be your name" and "The Heart of Worship" by Matt Redman. It's really pretty good songs.

My favorite one is Battle Hymn of the Republic if that counts, Ive always gotten a message from it but other people seem not too

Christmas songs are the best. "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" is an all-time classic.

Being from England, I suppose I should give a shout out to "Jerusalem" as well.

One of my favourite bands, a folk group called Blackmore's Night, did a brilliant cover of "Wind in the Willows", another great.
