Many people imagine that the earth is billions of years old. While I do not believe in a very young earth, I can see no way that the earth can be as old as science claims it to be. My reasons are as follows:

1. Erosion. If the earth was so old, most of it would be on the sea floor. Erosion happens continually.
2. Wave action. The coastline is constantly battered by waves. Cliffs are cut away by waves and collapse into the sea. One of Victoria's rock formations, a tourist attraction, was washed away not so.
3. Oil and gas. There are still vast reserves of oil and gas underground and undersea. There are something like 12,000 earthquakes a year. Oil supposedly formed over a period of hundreds of millions of year, with the process completed about 65 million years ago. And I'm supposed to believe that the oil and gas remained trapped underground for 65 million years? When oil was seeping out of the ground for who knows how long before it became a vital commodity?

I have other reasons, but a little complex to go into here. And that is before considering God's word.

Why is science desperate to "prove" an ancient earth? It's the only way that they can make a case for evolution. And evolution is required to justify the godless atheism that is the hallmark of modern science.

It is not important for us to believe one way or the other. The Bible does not tell us how old the Earth is. Gen.1:1,2 tells us that In the beginning God created the Heavens and the Earth. We have no way of knowing when that was. I believe God purposely had it written that way so as to commence the Scriptures with the need for Faith. We should just accept by faith that He is the Creator and cease speculation and profitless theories. God could have created the World seconds before He commenced His six acts to prepare the World for mankind complete with all the attributes and appearance of age, or He could have casually taken His time and taken millions of years to accomplish the same results. - The Scriptures clearly show that Adam was made (Created is not the right word- created implies formed from nothing, but Adam was made from existing materials) a little over 6,000 ago. The six acts of preparing the Earth for mankind all start with the same words "Then God said" or similar in different versions. All of which starts at verse 3. -- So forget disputes about the earth's age and just accept it by faith.

History is based upon the writings of mankind and his civilization(s). History may only be recounted by this manner of recorded events.

What is the oldest known record of such known? Even this record indicates a time-line much briefer than all the tales of theories of man.

Ergo, the calendar afforded by the Bible fits quite well into my understanding of history.

I think Jed Clampett has more sense than the Evolutionists.

ME:
Lord, a lot of people keep arguing back and forth about this. How old is the Earth really?

I watched this last night and thought it was pretty good as a CGI representation of the effects the Great Flood had on the interpretation of geology. You may like it too.

This is worth watching.

Exactly, and I think according to the Bible the earth is around 6,000 years old. No need to believe in the millions of years at all bc it's all craziness.

Evolution needs millions of years. Apparently things pop up spontaneously with millions of years, not thousands... I mean there's no proof but yea. They said it happens so....

I tried watching it. You were wrong. It is not worth watching.
Neither is your new Bible verse.

Yes - it is very much worth watching - for anyone with a good faith foundation (and enough interest in the topic) - others might be confused by the fact that the narrator seems to have and use a pro-biblical approach but from an atheistic/antagonistic view of the Bible account of the flood - leaving the watcher (at least initially) wondering what the narrator really believes and what his stance really is on the topic.

However, I think this video description statement from the video page may help the watcher to understand why it comes across the way it does:

"Young Earth Creationism is probably the most ridiculed position in the debate about origins and many Christians join in with the ridicule in order to gain respectability among non-believers. However, when questioned about it, most people, whether Christians or not, have no idea what young earth creationists actually believe. This video gives a basic introduction in order to try to combat this ignorance."

(As of the writing of this post, I have not viewed any other videos from the channel promoting the video.)

I tried watching it. You were wrong. It is not worth watching.
Your statement actually prompted me to watch the video now instead of later from a saved link - because, I know you are very impatient and "lazy" (by your own admission about many things) when it comes to putting forth the effort to think in-depth about topics and issues that require such thinking to obtain anything worthwhile from it - and quick to judge things (and make off-the-cuff comments/remarks) based on your initial, seemingly instant (not very well thought through), surface-level impression of them.

So - I thought - "If Lynx did not like it, there must really be something to it..."

In my opinion, you "gave up on it" before you had a chance to learn some very interesting 'tidbits'... (your loss)

That being said - I truly understand your reaction and reluctance - it definitely came across as being just a bit weird in its presentation.

Well... I mean... Whatever works for you, I guess.

But in that case you probably want to look into making soybean oil a cornerstone of your diet and investing heavily in lesser-known cryptocurrencies. I don't like either of them.

That is not the "sense" of my statement - I was specifically referring to you not wanting to watch a particular video - not anything-and-everything IRL that you may like or not like.

But - hey - whatever...

Naturally. But it was fun to say that anyway.

It is possible to accept an old (not billions of years) earth. There is the idea that there was a creation prior to the account in Genesis. This view is supported by the word translated "was" as in the earth was formless and empty. It could just as accurately be translated "became". I believe this to be the case. It's also known as the pre-Adamic creation theory. There is a good deal of evidence to support this view. Salvation does not depend on it, but it does answer a lot of questions raised by geology.
