We won't be able to decide anything about a virtual meetup until we see what the new CC chat framework will be.
I mean... We COULD always just adjourn to Skype or Zoom or something, but that wouldn't be strictly ethical if Robo is trying to get an in-house chat going again.
Oh of course.
A CC venue would be my first choice to support the site -- but it depends on how fast it happens.
If there's nothing available here by the time we would want to hold one, there obviously wouldn't be a choice but to use something else.
We'd have to do some brainstorming. And I wouldn't see it as ethical to publicly announce an actual gathering here that would be held on another site, so I guess we'd have to start a thread to see who was interested, then I'd have to start some sort of private message email newsletter.
Since it's impossible to coordinate everyone's schedule, I wouldn't even try, unless we miraculously got mostly all people who were all available at the same time. We'd just have to set a day, time, and place and tell people, "Hey, this is going down at such-and-such-time and on such-and-such place, would you want to stop by?" Like I said, i think the first go should probably be RSVP, so we have an idea of what we're in for.
And if it went well, we'd switch to using CC as soon as it became available.
But if it all got to be too much work, we'd have to scratch the whole idea. Helpful suggestions would always be welcome, but naysayers and complainers who have contributed nothing to the work needed to put into something like this would be publicly announced as the organizers of the next meetup. And we would expect no less than perfection from them.
But no one can say we haven't at least thought about it.
