The quest for eternal life is a venture for mankind, for God "has put eternity in their hearts" (Ecc. 3: 11). Unfortunately, this world has been deceived by the devil who has put a shroud over this possibility for many today. Instead, people invest billions to maintain their beauty and youth, and the goal seems to be extending this dust-filled life to gain a few more years. It's all vanity as Solomon experienced firsthand.
Our only hope for eternal life comes through Jesus Christ as you quoted above from I John, brother. He is "...the true God, and eternal life." Christ Jesus is what this life and eternal life for that matter is all about. Paul helps to put the purpose of this life in clear focus as well, and Satan's shroud has been lifted:
Philippians 3:12-14
New King James Version
Pressing Toward the Goal
12 Not that I have already attained,[
a] or am already perfected; but I press on,
that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. 13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have [
b]apprehended; but one thing
I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
We have been called to focus on the "prize" -developing the character of Christ, living as He did proclaiming the gospel, and serving God in whatever capacity that gives Him the glory. Note that while Paul was in the flesh, he had not attained the goal yet, and he needed to continue pressing on and "forgetting those things which are behind." Like Paul, God has blessed us with a clear purpose and goal - "the upward call of God in Christ Jesus." Amen!!!
“The quest for eternal life is a venture for mankind, for God "has put eternity in their hearts"
amen brother the tree of life was in man’s original home and part of his inheritance blessing
“And the LORD
God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed. And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food;
the tree of life also in the midst of the garden,
and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.”
Genesis 2:8-9 KJV
“And the LORD
God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.”
Genesis 2:16-17 KJV
But of course man transgressed the commandment given to keep them alive and safe in Eden and chose the one promising death so it was fulfilled
“And the LORD God said, Behold,
the man is become as one of us,
to know good and evil: ( they became thier own judge of good and evil rather than trusting gods judgements of good and evil he gave them )
and
now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:
therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.”
Genesis 3:22-24 KJV
death isnt the plan for man but eternity through Christ
“…These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks……..
…..
He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches;
To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.”
Revelation 2:7 KJV
“
Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.”
Revelation 22:14 KJV
“For
I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.”
John 12:49-50
“Then said Jesus to those Jews which
believed on him,
If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
….
Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death.”
John 8:31-32, 51 KJV
“but these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.”
John 20:31 KJV
“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.”
John 14:1-4, 6-7 KJV
“At that day ( when they received the holy ghost )
ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.
He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will
manifest myself to him.
Jesus answered and said unto him,
If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings:
and
the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.”
John 14:20-21, 23-24 KJV
In the ot under the law under condemnation for sin , the people reacted to hearing God speak commands
“Now therefore
why should we die? for this great fire will consume us:
if we hear the voice of the LORD our God any more, then we shall die.”
Deuteronomy 5:25 KJV
But
the truth of the gospel after remission of sins that
we need to believe is
“Verily, verily, I ( Jesus ) say unto you,
He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me,
hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”
John 5:24 KJV
Life has always been Gods offer he placed Adam in Eden with the tree of life and freedom to eat from it. But then man keeps choosing death by transgressing the warnings he gives us about it
God says to man
“
don’t eat from this one single tree it’s deadly for you but all else is freely yours your blessed and rulers of the earth “
Mankind’s answer in the shadows
“ok lord let me try that forbidden fruit then see what happens “
