DURING A RECENT DISCUSSION WITH MY DAUGHTER ON THE CHRISTIAN RESPONSIBILITY OF CHOOSING WHO YOUR GOING TO VOTE FOR. A MILD DEBATE AROSE, RATHER PERSONAL (BIBLICAL) CONVICTIONS PLAYED A ROLE IN YOUR CHOICE OF A CANDIDATE.
WE BOTH AGREED THAT IT DOES, HOWEVER, THE MAIN FOCUS OF THE DEBATE, WAS SHOULD YOU VOTE WITHIN THE MAJOR PARTIES? OR STICK WITH PERSONAL CONVICTIONS IF THERE WAS A TRULY SPIRITUAL INDEPENDENT
I ARGUED THAT YOU MUST CHOOSE BETWEEN THE 2 PARTY (REPS & DEMS) BECAUSE OTHER VOTES ARE BASICALLY THROWN AWAY OR WORSE A VOTE TOWARD YOUR OPPOSITION.
HERE IS THE QUESTION, I BELIEVE IN THE TOTAL SOVEREIGNTY OF GOD, HE CHOOSES RULERS, AND DEPOSES THEM....WE CAN SEE THIS CLEARLY IN THE O.T THROUGH KINGS, AND JUDGES, & CHRONICLES....ALSO IN THE N.T.......
SO, FROM A MORALITY STAND POINT........SHOULD ( OR, CAN) WE VOTE FOR A CANDIDATE, WHO SUPPORTS IMMORALITY (HOMOSEXUAL SPECIAL RIGHTS, ABORTION, ETC..) AS A PLATFORM? SECONDLY, IS THIS A COMPROMISE TO OUR SO CALLED FAITH CONVICTIONS?
[Luke 20:25 ] 25 And He said to them, "Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's."
IN THIS PASSAGE, WE SEE JESUS TEACHING TO SEPARATE THE TWO MORAL CHOICES BY BEING OBEDIENT TO BOTH LAW & SCRIPTURE....
[Titus 3:1 ] 1 Remind them to be subject to rulers, to authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good deed,
[Romans 13:1, 4-7 ] 1 Every person is to be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God. ... 4 for it is a servant of God to you for good. But if you do what is evil, be afraid; for it does not bear the sword for nothing; for it is a servant of God, an avenger who brings wrath on the one who practices evil. 5 Therefore it is necessary to be in subjection, not only because of wrath, but also for the sake of conscience. 6 For because of this you also pay taxes, for [rulers] are servants of God, devoting themselves to this very thing. 7 Pay to all what is due them: tax to whom tax [is due;] custom to whom custom; respect to whom respect; honor to whom honor.
Interestingly, I don't find anywhere in scripture where we are told HOW/WHO TO VOTE FOR!
What I do see, is the multi faceted purpose GOD uses for authority.... to, PROTECT, TO PROSECUTE, AND TO EXECUTE HIS JUDGEMENT......
AS A CHRISTIAN, I CANNOT SUPPORT WHAT SCRIPTURE CONDEMNS IN CHOOSING A PERSON FOR LEADERSHIP........PERHAPS YOUR CONSCIENCE ALLOWS FOR THAT..... ( no judgement).
I'LL CLOSE WITH THIS VERY POPULAR VERSE...
[Joshua 24:15] 15 "But if it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve: whether the gods which your fathers served, which were beyond the [Euphrates] River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD."
MAY GOD GRANT WISDOM IN YOUR CHOICE!!
