We should all think about this and consider the dangers.
I was reading from a dubious work of Hippolytus and came across this subject:
Appendix to the works of Hippolytus. XLV111
Then shall they also make answer to the dread Judge, who accepteth no man's person: Lord, when saw we Thee an hungered, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and ministered not unto Thee? Lord, dost Thou know us not? Thou didst form us, Thou didst fashion us, Thou didst make us of four elements, Thou didst give us spirit and soul. On Thee we believed; Thy seal we received, Thy baptism we obtained; we acknowledged Thee to be God, we knew Thee to be Creator; in Thee we wrought sights, through Thee we cast out demons, for Thee we mortified the flesh, for Thee we preserved virginity, for Thee we practised chastity, for Thee we became strangers on the earth; and Thou sayest, I know you not, depart from me! Then shall He make answer to them, and say, Ye acknowledged me as Lord, but ye kept not my words. Ye were marked with the seal of my cross, but ye deleted it by your hardness of heart. Ye obtained my baptism, but ye observed not my commandments. Ye subdued your body to virginity, but ye kept not mercy, but ye did not cast the hatred of your brother out of your souls. For not every, one that saith to me, Lord, Lord, shall be saved, but he that doeth my will. And these shall go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into life eternal.

Born again believers have NOTHING to fear here.
These people Jesus is addressing put their faith in THEIR works. NOT in Him.
None of them said, "Lord, Lord, did we not trust in YOU, YOUR sacrifice, and YOUR resurrection!".
It's hard, or I'd even say impossible, for those outside of Christ to understand these verses fully in truth. In truth those who are in Jesus WILL do His will. What this "Lord, Lord" verse means is that just because you say "Lord, Lord" does not mean you're saved, those who are saved WILL be obedient.
We don't know what we have never known, imagined, been shown, told about, or experienced in any way. We cannot KNOW the spirit in us before we are born again, because it's dead when we are born. Until He resurrects our spirit and reconciles us with His Spirit, we are completely ignorant of these things. Like how can I think I'm saved, I do work for Him, and I sing Lord, Lord, every Sunday at church when I go. I repeated the prayer, got baptized and my pastor declared I was saved forever, yet I cannot know if I'm a false convert. However on the flipside, when God saves you in truth and opens your eyes to these things (which may happen when the pastor calls you up, I'm not saying it can't happen this way at all), you CAN KNOW when you are saved in truth. So we cannot know these things until we are born again, and in this state we WILL follow Jesus and do His will. That's the only way we can please God.

Workers of Iniquity doesn't indicate sinful man but man who twisted the Word of God and created a belief that opposes WHO God truly is.
I don't think this verse addresses whether these people are "believers" or "unbelievers." What it does say is that the person who only talks and says he has Jesus as his master, but does not actually live it out, will not enter the kingdom of heaven. It is only the one who actually and really has Jesus as his Master and does His will - that one will enter the Kingdom of heaven.
It says in verse 23 they were unbelievers as Jesus said He never knew them. Jesus knows His sheep and His sheep know Him.
John 10:14
I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own.
Were not people in His day coming up all the time saying "Rabbi Rabbi" or "lord lord"? Yes they were and there were no Christians no Churches. So John 3:16-17 Rom 10:9-10 tells us everything we need to know and OT (Samuel) we know man only looks at the outward appearance but God looks at the heart. So its not all those others we may not like or disagree with.

That was a warning to the people about false prophets. It's the same today.
Turn on the TV and you'll get to the end of their sermons. They talk about the Lord then they provide a false gospel to the people. The fruit of their ministries are deceived into believing them.
Elsewhere Jesus rebuked them of crossing land and sea to make one proselyte, making him a twofold child of hell. What was the popular message of that day? Obedience to keeping the laws to earn salvation. None of them obeyed the Father. They believed the law was the means of salvation, when their Savior was standing right in front of them.
What preachers have shown me they believe about this is that they are trusting that they are going to make the cut when the coach gives them a chance to try out for the team.
They think that God grades on a curve, and that as long as they haven't done anything too awful bad and they were like totally heartily sorry for their sins, that they will pass that class.
What they refuse to know is that the requirement is perfection, 100% correct. Either that or they have to do the will of the Father who is in Heaven. Paul addressed this time and again. Jesus did too.
40And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.

The preacher's of Christ's years on earth did not like that. They were trusting in their wonderful works, in making God Lord of their lives , deliverance ministries.
That's why Jesus praised them so much for their hard work, right?
How many times have I heard preachers say, " If Jesus isn't Lord of ALL, He's NOT Lord at all" , as if they are quoting scripture for a means of salvation.
None of that is acceptable with Jesus.
ALL their righteousnesses are as filthy rags.
Jesus is the Savior, not the gnarly looking sinner they look at in the mirror each morning.
In this verse, Jesus is showing the importance of genuine obedience to God's will over mere verbal acknowledgments or outward profession of faith. Simply calling Jesus "Lord" or claiming to follow him is not enough to secure entry into the kingdom of heaven. True discipleship involves actively doing the will of God the Father. This stress the idea that faith should be demonstrated through righteous actions and obedience to God's commands, rather than being merely lip service.
Remember the parable of the talent and the unfaithful servant.

Yes. Disobedient believers have something to worry about according to this verse.
If Jesus takes away sin and we have to worry about sin, then I'm missing something, which is sin, I guess...? 
Amen! In Matthew 7:23, Jesus clearly stated that He never knew these many people which means they were never saved.
What is God's will for us to enter the kingdom of heaven? John 6:40 - For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.
