Older…and nicer???

I starting to realize that I have changed significantly over the last few years. I’m much nicer now than I was before. I can even hold my tongue these days and not be itching for a grim comeback when someone is saying something I don’t approve of.

Have any of you other golden oldies experienced this?

Meh. I tried it. It's highly overrated.

I've tried being nice a couple of times.

And it pretty much turned me into Statler and Waldorf:

I honestly think I'm just as ornery as I've always been (just ask my family and friends!)

But I do think I'm a little less anxious than I used to be, and that seems to translate into being a little more easy-going -- sometimes.

I have observed some nice people turn into old crabs when they get old. Other nice people don't change at all.

Combined with observations on the effect of age on energy levels, I have reached a conclusion.

Some nice people are not really nice. They are putting on an act. But the older you get, the harder it is to keep up the act. So as they age, we find out what they are really like, and how much they have been acting all these years.

As for GETTING NICER as you age, I think that mostly comes from learning what to not stress about, and how much a lot of things don't really matter.

While my previous post was intended as a joke, there is a serious point behind it.

“Nice” is not a fruit of the Holy Spirit. Whether someone is perceived to be “nice” often depends on external circumstances rather than one’s response to them. We should, however, be growing in kindness. 😊

I agree with Lynx and notmyown. The spiritual life changes you. The more you know about the Word, the more you have grown spiritually, the more relaxed and hopeful you get. Eternity is going to be astounding. Our confidence is not in man but God who loves us. Believers in Christ have nothing to worry about, but the old unbeliever has no hope, and just gets more bitter and hateful. The greatest problem of mankind is the sin nature and the unbeliever rejects the solution.

I want the simple things on life....

Like a good old fashioned ice cream freezer for under $600.

And apparently it's not happening. They disappeared just before the pandemic and quarantines....and have yet to return.

A stainless steel freezing container for the ice cream and loops for the dasher inside....after that I really don't care much. A motor is also needed to churn it because I'm not a kid anymore.

So....
When I can buy a decent ice cream freezer to make ice cream again.....I might regain some fuse length and dull my tongue a bit.

Don't get me wrong, I have no intention of being a total jerk to people for no good reason. But I try to avoid being overly "sweet" as well.

Those people are always gloomy and brooding.
