Hey Everyone,

I have a longtime CC friend who isn't here anymore, but in chats, the two of us used to valiantly stand our ground -- in defense of the scrumptious, delectable crunchy taco.

Unfortunately, "B" and I found ourselves in a room full of soft taco lovers, and were egregiously outnumbered.

I still think of that conversation every time I have tacos.

And alas, I have to make a confession.

A few nights ago, for some strange, perhaps heretical reason -- I made myself a SOFT SHELL taco. I don't know why. I had crunchy shells on hand. But for some reason, I also had soft tortillas and I decided to give it another go, JUST THIS ONCE.

And now I've been eating soft shell tacos instead of crunchy. :eek:

I owe my friend a letter as it is, and I'm going to have to confess to him that, gasp, I just might see some value to the soft shell side. He just might possibly disown me on the spot.

* How about the rest of you?

* Which Taco Shell Side are you on -- crunchy or soft -- and why?

* Is your family split or undecided on the issue? Do you have to have both kinds available for everyone?

* And, even more controversial -- what's your standpoint on Tabasco sauce?!

Crunchy or soft. Line 'em up. And don't get between me and the plate.

Not even kidding. You'll see a reprise of Running With The Bulls if you get in my way when there are tacos at steak, I mean stake.

I had this thread planned the night I ate the tacos, about 3 nights ago.

I was too busy eating to get around to it. 😂

Both are good, but my favorite are Mexican street tacos with small double corn tortillas. Tabasco is good, but primarily for oysters and bloody marys.

I'll go with soft shell, but having said that, why have a taco when you can have a burrito???? .:unsure::unsure::unsure:;):giggle:

Hard shell tacos tend to break when you bite into them, causing spillage of carefully assembled fillings.

Ah, this is a perfect opportunity!!

I'm afraid I'm not at all educated in the topic of Mexican/Latino food, so may I please ask, what's the difference between a taco and a burrito?

I've been to Mexican restaurants but I have to confess, everything on the menu looks like a recombination of the same, just different meats or beans and shells?

I could be terribly, chastise-worthy wrong, however! :LOL:

Please feel free to set me straight. :p

This is by no means a technical or dictionary definition, but my guess is that a taco is open and
can be hard shell whereas a soft-shelled taco is similar to a burrito which is always soft-shell,
except/although a burrito is rolled up and the ingredients safely enclosed, although spillage
can still occur once bitten into.... the ingredients can vary or be the same, although I do think
burritos are less strict (so-to-speak) about what can or should go in them...

Now I've looked up the differences:
  • Tacos are typically smaller, open-faced, and do not usually contain rice.
  • Burritos are larger, completely enclosed, and often contain rice and beans alongside other fillings.
  • Tacos are usually served on a flour tortilla, while burritos are typically served on a corn tortilla.

It IS all the same ingredients. I've heard multiple comedians commenting on it.

It's mostly how the shell holds the ingredients and how you hold the shell. That's all the difference. A burrito is a bigger soft taco with a shell that wraps all the way around the filling.

I'm really thankful that you guys play along with these frivolous threads... I often use them to ease my mind a little bit of things going on in real life.

I'm part of a chat group of friends that keep in touch and talk most every day, and I started making these silly little nothing-type questions and polls every morning for a while.

It seemed to help put a positive spin on the day (or at least wake people up when they disagreed, lol.)

I'm glad that maybe people here like them as well. :)

When I was in high school I used to go to a place with my friends every week and get a chimichanga.

Best I can figure, it's a deep-fried burrito?!

All I know was, it was yummy enough to make one want to celebrate by hitting a pinata.

THAT explains it!!!

I've always wondered why tortilla shells in the store vary so much in size, and why the "burrito" shells were always so much bigger.

Yeah, with a burrito you put all the filling in a line down the middle. Then you fold it over to make a tortilla tube, with the filling inside it. Then you fold one end in to keep it all from falling out when you take a bite.

Unless you w*rk at Taco Bell. If you w*rk at Taco Bell you fold BOTH ends in, for some odd reason. Maybe to keep the filling from falling out when people swing a bag with burritos around and toss it on the car seat.
