I don't think people are being reasonable if they think you can have politics that does not get corrupted. I ran for the school board, I was asked to run by two groups in the city and although I felt it unlikely I would win I did want to sound out a word of warning. So I agreed. I met great people who gave of their time and effort and money for this campaign. I always wondered how they could be so selfless, but eventually learned it wasn't "selfless". Everyone was hoping to win something or gain something from the election. It is not all that unreasonable, the campaign was given several thousand dollars, some people put in many hours of labor, it seems reasonable to expect that they will get something in return. We had five people running for two positions. When I look at the other four candidates it was not hard to see that they all had something they were hoping to get, other than the obvious. In every case it seems people and organizations were funding campaigns and vying for the position.
However, I knew even if elected I would be one of five school board members and the other four would be controlled by the NEA. Not only in this city but in cities across the country. So why does the NEA want to control school boards? That is obvious, the reason this is a national organization that is very powerful and influential is because of the school board members. They control budgets, they control policies, they control purchases.
I came to the conclusion that the Public school is incurably sick. No one is going to heal it by electing a few school board members. I believe this is of God. People hand off their children to the public school to teach them and train them, so you reap what you sow. You are in no position to now complain about what your kids have been taught or trained to do. You gave away your authority to control their education. Homeschool is the only solution.
