Hey Everyone!

Here in the Singles Forum, We:

th

:D

Growing up in a very Lutheran surrounding, church potlucks were a regular staple of my childhood.

Now of course, the rule of any potluck is that you need to bring a dish or dessert to pass!! And so:

* What kinds of memories -- good or bad -- do the following pictures bring up of your own experiences with potlucks? (Or does your church/country have a different tradition other than potlucks?)

* If you didn't grow up in church, what kinds of fellowship activities does your church hold/do you wish they would have?

* What would you bring to our Forum Potluck -- a casserole, crockpot concoction, or dastardly dessert? It can be homemade, store-bought (hey, everyone is busy these days and not everyone likes/knows how to cook.) Are there any special dishes you are known for?

* What regular rotation of dishes did you look forward to most at your own church's potlucks? (Sister Martha's famous apple pie, Brother Bartholomew's "secret recipe" bbq sandwiches, Pastor Peter's Corny Casserole, etc.)

* And if you don't happen to be cuisine-i-a-cally gifted (I feel your pain!) what other things would you contribute? Plastic cutlery, cups and plates, napkins, POP (NOT soda -- Northern Respect!) juice, squirt guns. Er... I mean... I seem to remember some of my summer church potlucks involving squirt guns and water balloons...

*What kinds of games and entertainment would you most enjoy? (Why does a dunk tank suddenly come to mind...) My church actually did have a dunk tank one year -- and I just remember people lining up in droves when the pastor took his turn as the victim, lol.

Let the fun -- and the dunking -- begin!!!

Everybody -- spouses, families, neighbors and all -- are welcome to the Singles Forum Church Potluck!

Tell us what YOU would enjoy most, and what you would bring to share. :D

I don't think any one would want me to bring what I eat but I am willing to offer my services as a taste tester for every dish to make sure it's not poisoned.

Hold up, I think in other threads you've said that you can perfectly microwave a store-bought burrito?!

That counts!!! And people definitely like ethnic variety at their potlucks!

You're in!

We'll just have to be sure to hold the potluck in a location that has access to a reliable microwave.

It's finally my time to shine!

I’m the banana pudding lady now. I don’t make it from scratch though because I don’t like to work lol.

Banana pudding is the best pudding. My family used to have a lot of get togethers years ago with tons of food. I always looked forward to the banana pudding with vanilla wafers in it.

I really enjoy pot-roast with lots of veggies, carrots, onions, potatoes. For the potluck I will bring some bottled water, probably Perrier 'cause it's got a refreshing fizzy thing going.

Why is that water fizzing?

I'm gonna have to check that for poison.

Just read your post after I posted mine. Absolutely on target with the vanilla wafers. I have been to many family get togethers but not so much recently since moving from Florida to Tennessee.

Vanilla wafers in banana pudding is a must. My family doesn't really get together for meals like that anymore. Most of the family is either too old or already passed away. Unfortunately us younger ones don't really know how to cook very well lol.

Definitely a public service for sure. Most gracious of you to offer your services.

No worries. I've ate and drank the most unhealthy things for most of my life so I'm pretty sure I've developed an immunity to poisons.

Why am I getting serious Princess Bride vibes from this post...

Well if it's any consolation:

I've never seen that movie but I feel like it's mocking me.

In the movie The Princess Bride, Wesley (our hero) challenges the villain to a battle of wits. He puts out two cups, then dares the villain to choose which one is safe and which one is poisoned. After the villain has made his choice (through a dizzying explanation as to why he chose it,) they each take drink from the cup placed in front of them.

The twist is that Wesley actually poisoned BOTH cups, knowing he would survive either way, even though the villain cheats by distracting Wesley and switches the cups at the last minute.

Unfortunately for the villain, Wesley has "spent the last few years building up an immunity to iocane powder" -- the type of poison used, and so Wesley lives -- and villain drops over dead.

So you see Cold, you're actually the hero of the story!

It sounds like there isn't anything this potluck (or any other food get-together) can throw at you that you won't be immune to!

Salmonella ain't got nuttin' on you.

I fear for all of our safety if I'm the hero. I mean, what about all the fish and pork dishes? I may be immune to poisons but I'm not willing to taste those to find out if they're alright.
