You receive a word as prophetic from someone you don't even know?
How do you know if anyone's a prophet, because they say so?
This is actually an important question, and someone at my church even wrote a long article on the subject. I will probably be more brief here. (We'll see.)

1. Know God. A person best learns to identify the counterfeit/false by coming to know the true very, very well. This is not limited to intellectual recognition, but very much includes spiritual discernment. Discernment is something one should seek from God via prayer, but it is also a skill one gets better and better at through practice. Examples of spirits are things like love, pride, victimhood, peace, etc. Obviously some of those are good and some are bad.

Coming to know God means reading one's Bible, spending time in prayer, asking God questions and being open to even surprising answers. God can use people to this end, but there is a significant difference between seeking God and having him answer through a person, and seeking a person to tell you what God thinks.

2) Know your scripture. Really, this is a continuation of the above. Knowing your scripture, though gives you something to test things against, and for Holy Spirit to bring to mind when needed. For example, one day I felt a strong spirit (roughly feels like a feeling or emotion, though they aren't the same thing) on me all day long that I couldn't identify. After many hours of crying out to God for help with identifying it and knowing what to do about it, a scripture came to mind that suddenly allowed me to identify in words what the spirit was and how vile it was. God then showed me from there what to do about it, which I won't get into here.

3) When in doubt, throw it out. If you need to know badly enough, God can bring it up again another way, so it's okay to say you don't know and you're going to let go on figuring it out for now. This does not mean rejecting every prophet and prophecy outright, as we are commanded in scripture "Do not treat prophecy with contempt but test all things. Hold fast to that which is good."

4) I would like to mention too, that scripture does mention two specific tests, though they aren't especially helpful today.

The first one was found in the Old Testament and was God telling the Israelites not to believe a prophet that said something was going to happen that then didn't. A problem with this test, though, is that to apply it, the prophecy can only mean what God intends, and this is quite often not what we think, even when it seems obvious.

For example, in John 6 Jesus told his throng of followers to eat his flesh and drink his blood if they wanted eternal life. It is easy to think now that those who left were foolish for not following Jesus when he is God, but the real message was spiritual and they could not receive it without God's enabling them to. In fact Jesus even explained this to his called disciples saying in verse 65,

"He went on to say, 'This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless the Father has enabled them.' "

You see, the apparent point of his saying to eat his flesh & blood was to filter it all those who were following him for logical and fleshly reasons rather than spiritual ones.

Another possible problem with the 'Does it happen' test is that it was an Old Covenant test offered to ancient Israel who did not have Holy Spirit available for spiritual discernment. Because Holy Spirit is now available to us and we must learn how to live in fellowship with him, God is probably not as likely to give us such an easy test, though there are likely still occasions for it.

The other scriptural test comes from 1 John 4. It says that every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus came in the flesh is from God but that a spirit that denies that Jesus came in the flesh is not of God. There are a few problems with this though.

First off, how do you even apply it? Some spiritual entities will answer the question if asked, but not all of us can hear such a response, and of course we were talking about prophetic words and presumably prophets, not the spiritual source itself. Obviously a human being can lie.

Second, most people don't even understand what is being talked about here. I have personally been taught that it refers to a particular heresy from New Testament times whereby Jesus was considered to have been God but not human, or something along those lines. The significance being that Satan is trying to discredit humanity as a rival (in his mind) creation of God and doesn't like to acknowledge that Jesus conquered death in his humanity, or to put it another way, in the flesh.

Third, God has personally given my church an indication that something has changed since that passage was written by John and some dark spirits can (now?) lie. I suppose one might still be able to apply it to identify some fallen spirits that might yet deny Jesus' humanity, but it doesn't really verify a source just because they will acknowledge a truth.

Also note:
1) Satanic spirits can feel good or bad.
2) Both Satan and God can call out your sin, but Satan speaks condemnation while God speaks repentance and reconciliation.
3) If you think it is easy you don't even know enough to know what you don't know.
4) This is part of discernment, but God always does things with purpose, not for flash alone.
5) Prophecy includes a lot more than just foretelling. Fortune tellers focus on foretelling; real prophets speak of things like repentance, love, and encouragement too.

Let each of you lead the life that the Lord has assigned, to which God called you.
1 Corinthians 7:17

Each of us is unique, with our own set of talents, gifts, and abilities. We were not all given the same opportunities in life. Therefore, it's unnecessary to compare ourselves with others or to judge others. We are unique and special in the eyes of God. The Lord Jesus calls each of us to use our particular gifts and talents in our own way to glorify His Name. As Saint Paul says, "Let each of you lead the life that the Lord has assigned, to which God called you." Let us take time to reflect on what the Lord has given us and answer the question of how we can use our gifts and talents for the glory of His Name. It's all about Him, not us. Our life is lived for His glory not our own vainglory. Thank God for the gifts you received and ask Him to enlighten you on how to use your gifts and talents in a unique way to bless and glorify His Holy Name!

Great Word Eli. Agreed in Jesus Name. Please pray for me that they are all used for His purposes alone and nothing else. That's my heart too. I'm in a transition season and asking for clear direction for what's next. Bless you, my Brother!

His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and trustworthy servant; you have been trustworthy in a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.’

Matthew 25:21

Are we good and trustworthy servants with the talents that our Master has given us? Think of whatever gifts, talents, abilities, and opportunities you have been given in life. What have you done with them? How have you used them - to fulfill your own desires or to glorify God? Our Lord gives us many blessings. Always remember that we are blessed so that we share those blessings with others, not so that we keep them for ourselves. Think of ways in which you can share your gifts, talents, abilities and opportunities with others. This is what it means to be a good and trustworthy servant. Strive to be faithful in little ways so that our Lord will entrust with us more and more. By sharing our blessings with others we truly enter into the joy of our Master.

I work with computers (for over 25 years) and i also work in hospital settings (with hardened atheists and doctors).
On many occasions i have been able to talk about Christ to a few of them because they liked my work that i did on their computers or help them with a project that they needed. I go against the directives of my IT dpt sometimes.
I have even visited the homes of a few of them.
The last one was just around Christmas where a doctor who was very spiritual, invited me to his house (to fix his network, nas and laptops and other devices) and we got to talk for hours (8 hours) about Christianity, Jesus Christ, God, life and purpose.
We didn't even have food because we were having spiritual food.

I personally do not see any direction or confirmation being applied which is normally connected to prophetic aspirations. It reads like just keep doing the same ole same thing which is not prophetic but encouragement. A true prophetic word would consternate with your Calling and show future fulfillment would take place.

A real prophetic word would be I see you preaching, teaching, leading, getting promoted, accepting this, moving here, getting a phone call from so and so in the coming days, weeks, months, etc

I see nothing of that in that original post.

Maybe the OP is new at this.
I don't see prophecy either. I see inspiration or even a miracle involved to drive the love of God forward.

Not trying to burst his bubble by any means but agreed about only seeing good job and pat on the back kind of message. Nothing with absolute direction like prophesy would include.

This is My food, to do the will of my Father Who sent me! Beautiful Brother! I wouldn't go against the directives though...

Going against job directives is sort of a normal thing in my opinion in today's world, because most people in office settings don't do any work.
They're all bureaucrats.
So when a customer sees someone who's willing to do the actual work and go above and beyond, it leaves an impression on them.

Everyone should use their discretion, but if i followed the directives of my dpt. i wouldn't be doing any actual work at all.

Lets chat!

Does this prophetic word minister to you at all?

Do you feel this is from Jesus?

You have been called by name, child, and you are mine. You are uniquely talented, and you are a vibrant gift to the family of my beloved ones. When you first awakened to love’s call in your life, there was so much rapid growth as you depended on both me and my loyal lovers to teach you my kingdom ways. You developed quickly in the nurturing and wisdom of my love. You heeded the teachings of those who aligned their lives with mine, and you sought to be like them. Do not diminish the value of this time, for it set you up to continually seek me.

Do not forget the gifts that you received in the early days of your learning. They are still at work in your life. Practice them and use them for the benefit of others. No one else can offer what you do in the way you do it. Do not be convinced that another could fill your spot, for there is only one you. Let your light shine brightly as you live in the confidence of who I have created you to be. Use what you’ve received, and you will receive more. There is no shortage in me. Let love propel you, beloved.
It, is from the self-want to be saved. Is it working, trying to work it out, wanting to and is depressed over it not working out, with sin still at this persons door, haunting him/her, behind closed doors, not wanting to sin and trying to get what it wants to not sin. Then anger comes in and makes it worse through thought(s) over it happening, and thinking it should not be happening, cause I am doing and so it should leave, but it is not.

Me seeing Luke 18:9-14 as the straight betwixt this person is in. God gave reconciliation (2 Cor 5:17-20) to everyone to have, to accept it as done for them they are forgiven and then agree to God they are reconciled to God, asked, asking, got, given the new life in the risen Christ to work it out through him/her, in content Confidence belief
Contentment in good or bad that happens to us each. To be able to say thank you for any and all tragedies that happen to us, the children of God. For God takes it all in as a drink of water, turning everything into the good for you the child God Loves deeply, widely and highly (Which takes a while to see the fruition after not denying God through the troubles going on, went on and might still go on (Job)
To see Matthew 18:24-35 and forgive others, yet reconciliation (Forgiven) does not give new life, that is needed in there first born flesh and blood nature to get given new life in the risen Jesus Christ

To see what Jesus said as truth John 19:30 "It is Finished" What is finished?
Is the Law and Prophets finished?
No, fulfilled (Matthew 5:17-18,) for you, you, you , me and all others to turn to God in belief to God and have asked for the new life from God, get given this. yet Evil hates it and will do its best to stop anyone from continuing in belief to God through risen Son by getting anyone involved in any work to still do or else attitudes, which trips up people, not seeing it as finished as is said by Son on the cross

Philippians 1:6

Authorized (King James) Version

6 being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

Carry on my wayward child, there will be peace when you are done. Done Yet Hebrews 4:9-13

Reminds me when I preach at a new church and they do not know my quips yet. They sit there and stair at me like cows do to a new gate just replaced. That deer in the headlight kind of look. So I just keep preaching like I am supposed to whether they connect or not :ROFL::ROFL:

Hello,
I have felt similar to you lately. I have felt lonely at times in my journey even though I have a group of warriors around me. I serve at Church and go to bible study. I did a discipleship class last year that was very impactful. However; lately I have been slacking in prayer and reading scripture. To give you a little background about myself, I am the only follower of Jesus in my household. My husband doesn’t share my beliefs and I have been praying for him for 24 years now. My children grew up in church, but they do not follow Gods path. I know that I need to have patience because in Gods perfect timing, my husband and children will come to know the Lord personally and have a relationship with him. I pray that you have peace through this journey and that you don’t quit following Jesus because in due time he will reap a great harvest if you don’t give up. That goes for me too. God bless.
