An Example of Two Serious People in a Very Serious Relationship
John is an engineer at the ABC consulting firm. Although he's only been there for a year, he sees himself one day taking over the company and having at least 30 locations worldwide.
Susan is the assistant HR manager at XYZ chemical company in the next town over from John. She's very proud of her achievements so far and wants to be the first female CEO of her company one day.
They have been chatting online for about eight weeks and have decided to meet in person at the Starbucks in Susan’s hometown. Susan waits patiently for John at a table when he finally walks in, and they shake each other's hands.
Susan starts the conversation. “Hello John,” she says, still shaking John’s hand. “It is a pleasure to finally meet in person.”
“Likewise. I’m so glad, after we completed all the surveys and charts together that we were found to be a perfect demographic match.”
“Well, almost perfect, John.”
“Shall we sit down?”
“Okay, but I’m not going to order anything. I’ve decided that, since I’m still of child-bearing age, any caffeine I drink now may disrupt the growth process of the children I may have in the future”
“A wise and prudent decision for sure.”
“Do you have the documents I requested?”
“Yes." John fumbles through his black leather satchel, produces a manilla folder, and hands it to Susan. “It’s all there,” he continues. “Copy of my driver license, registration, insurance, credit report, proof of income, shot records, motor vehicle report, and CPR certification.”
“I noticed here your car is three years old?”
“Yeah, I’ve been meaning to shop for a new one but haven’t had the time. Maybe you can help me choose a prudent model sometime.”
“Sure, we can talk about that a bit later. Oh, by the way, here is the Affidavit of Desire To Be a Godly Woman document you requested.”
“Signed and notarized?”
“Yes.” You’ll find a list of all signatories on page three.” She opens the document to page three and continues. “See, the pastor, assistant pastor, music pastor, youth pastor, chief elder number one, chief elder number two, chief elder number three, the office assistant, and the janitor and his assistant.”
“Excellent. What about your prayer log?”
“Oh, glad you asked.” Susan reaches into her black leather satchel, produces a small notebook, and hands it to John. “Here you go. It’s all there. Each entry has the date, the time, what I prayed for, and most importantly, the result.”
“Oh wow. I never thought I would find a woman like you to have a serious relationship with. But I’m not sure if I am as serious as you. I feel like I may be unequally yoked.”
“Oh, don’t beat yourself up, John, I feel you are overflowing with seriousness. After all, that’s what I’m looking for in a serious relationship: A man who is just as serious as me.”
“Well then. Maybe we should go out to dinner.”
“Not so fast John. Give me a chance to have my legal team review these documents first.”
“Oh, of course, what was I thinking!”
“I promise to have an answer for you within three to five business days. In the meantime, I’ll email you a list of my food allergies, so you know where not to take me.”
“Perfect!”
They get up, shake hands, and depart from each other until their next romantic encounter.
