I have recommended reading Ayn Rand's books, We The Lving, and also The Fountainhead, and Atlas Shrugged, for people to find out what communism is from a person who escaped it themselves.
You can also ask many East Berliners who used to smuggle themselves under the trunk of the cars at the risk of jail for life or firing squad.

It might be easier for some to find one of those books than such a person :giggle:

There is only one time in recorded history where communism actually worked. It's in the Bible, Acts chapter 4... somewhere around verse 30 I think.

But it only works with the right motivation. It will never work as an official government system.
The Believers Share Their Possessions
32 All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had. 33 With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And God’s grace was so powerfully at work in them all 34 that there were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned land or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales 35 and put it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to anyone who had need.

36 Joseph, a Levite from Cyprus, whom the apostles called Barnabas (which means “son of encouragement”), 37 sold a field he owned and brought the money and put it at the apostles’ feet.
Communism is a nice idea on paper, but in practice it always produces a dictator.

Quote from an atheist:

I had a hard time with Ayn Rand because I found myself enthusiastically agreeing with the first 90% of every sentence, but getting lost at 'therefore, be a huge jerk to everyone.'

Should Christians hate Communism?
The original church of Christ was communistic, with jesus as the leader thereof.

To one degree or another we've got to be wary of ANY governmental system devised by humans to control other humans.

Yep. The early church in Acts was the only time communism really worked the way it was intended.

And even then they had an occasional ananias slip through.

Ask the one who dug it up. We are just chipping in.
It’s such a lame topic. I guess I should start one that says “Should I drink Lite Beer or regular?” Maybe it will be a little more clear cut. 😏

That's not how it works here. People start topics they are interested in. If other people are interested in the same topic, they make comments in that thread.

If you want to start what you think is a better thread, you are free to do so. And we are free to comment in it, or ignore it, as we wish.

We are even free to insult your thread if we want to, just as you are free to disparage this thread.

Or fear it. Fear it growing. Growing in academia. In Universities. Dare I mention Jordan Peterson but other thinkers are also stating that ideologies such as Communism are polar opposite to Christianity. Communism is a disguised atheism that seeks to dilute the dignity of a human individual. I tend to agree. I fear Communist ideas and related ideologies.
So....I watched this christian family move to Russia with their 6 kids. They were tired of being forced into accepting the lgbtq agenda. Russia even asked them why they moved there and he told them "to get away from the gays!" They all laughed and hired him. Can you imagine if he said something like that here? 😳 so we're not as free as people think.

Communists give good food to their people. They don't try to kill them with cancer cheap food. They have a reliable energy source using fossil fuels bc there's not enough power yet with green energy.

But communists murder Christians. So that's a no go for me. Unfortunately socialism fails and becomes communism. So we are well on our way. The fact that I'm white, have blue eyes, and a Christian.... will be the 1st to go. That's why the news keeps trying to make us the enemy. That's what the nazis did to the jews to try and get people unboard with their sinister plan.

Good topic to ressurect.

And NO....God is not interested in Communism whatsoever. He is interested in being a benevolent Dictatorship. With complete sole authority over everyone and everything.

Besides....we have had Communism tried several times with different groups here in the USA....ALL failed...mostly with spectacular failures....whole communities died out. (And Death is the key operative word here)
People thought that with the right group of preselected Christians it would work out great. Bwah ha ha ha.....
ALL failed.

The concentration of power is supposed to be a stage in the process of the communist revolution, however of course no one wants to give up power after they have attained it.

Republics and democracies suffer the same fate it only takes longer, the democracy/market economy can devolve while still maintaining the facade of being a democracy for a while until they >> (oligarchs) are in a position where they no longer need the facade.

This is the continual cycle of history.

Agreed.
One interesting system right now is China, which is Communism-Lite or Diet-Communism.
One party totalitarian system with private market. So they did a hybrid-communism. :D
Interesting idea, let's see how it goes long term.

China is an interesting situation for sure.
Diet-Communism, lol

I sometimes wonder with their near future population decline, which may seriously damage their economy if they will suffer another revolution that may usher in a more democratic system of government.

Look at France, dictatorship, revolution another dictator Napoleon and eventual movement towards a democracy, having said that the cultures are sooo different, maybe not.

I tend to think the Marxist-Leninist type revolution is something of the past though.

Just as much as christians should hate godless capitalism I suppose. Keep it balanced.

I dont remember any communism being taught at university, but if you do study it theres no need to fear it because better the devil you know then the devil you dont. Then you can see why it doesnt work.
Its better to study democracy though and the thing is that doesnt always work either. Im sure if communism got combined with democracy it would look quite different from the dictatorships it was prone to.

I learned about communism in high school when we read animal farm.
Not sure that capitalism is "godless" in theory, in practice it can be.
It does however favor the smart, innovative, shrewd, hard working risk-taker.

I think a class less society, what communism is supposed to be, suppresses creativity and innovation and I really could not live without
Chat GPT!!

Animal Farm is a very good book.

Russian art and artists are a bit hard to understand so i know what you all mean about Ayn Rand. :D
When i was in school, they made us read Russian books and i never liked it.

But if you all want to know what Soviet-Style communism is, stop by North Korea for a glimpse. It's a true time capsule.
