Reading the Bible from cover to cover is always going to be rewarding but you might try combining part of your study time with other forms of Bible study. I have a good concordance (Cruden’s or Strongs and a book called Treasury of Scripture Knowledge they are of great value for deeper Bible study, I might mention that the online Bible I use can be accessed online at
blueletterbible.org, it is very helpful for all types of Bible studies. They provide several different reading plans, the two references I mentioned above, an audio Bible, devotionals etd.
One of my major lines of study is to find Jesus in Bible prophecy. Here is a prophecy from Numbers that is recognized by a hostile ruler in the New Testament:
[um 24:17 KJV 17 I shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but not nigh: there shall come a
Star out of Jacob, and a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel, and shall smite the corners of Moab, and destroy all the children of Sheth.
Mat 2:2, 7, 9-10 KJV 2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? f
or we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. ... 7 Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently
what time the star appeared. ... 9 When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, t
he star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was. 10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.
The interaction between Balaam and his ass in Numbers 22 borders on humorous and is used for by New Testament writers as an example in 2 Peter 2: 15, 16, Jude 11 and Revelation 2:14.
There is another place in Numbers which is referred to by Jesus himself:
Jhn 3:14 KJV]14 And as Moses
lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
[Num 21:8-9 KJV] 8 And the LORD said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live. 9 And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.
I have to reference Exodus here to give the full picture:
Exo 14:19-20 KJV 19 And the angel of God, which went before the camp of Israel,
removed and went behind them; and the pillar of the cloud went from before their face, and stood behind them: 20 And
it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel; and it was a cloud and darkness [to them], but it gave light by night [to these]: so that the one came not near the other all the night.
[Num 9:18 KJV] 18 At the commandment of the LORD the children of Israel journeyed, and at the commandment of the LORD they pitched: as long as the cloud abode upon the tabernacle they rested in their tents.
[Co 10:1-4 KJV 1 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; 2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; 3 And did all eat the same spiritual meat; 4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for
they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.
