God only died for the elect because his sacrifice is only for the remission of sins of the elect.

Not all who claim to believe in Jesus are of the elect.

James 2:16-20
16 And one of you say to them: Go in peace, be ye warmed and filled; yet give them not those things that are necessary for the body, what shall it profit? 17 So faith also, if it have not works, is dead in itself. 18 But some man will say: Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without works; and I will shew thee, by works, my faith. 19 Thou believest that there is one God. Thou dost well: the devils also believe and tremble. 20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

While I agree one can be known by their fruit in the present, you do not know what God may yet do. That's why God desires mercy. Who knows...God might just use you to draw people to Him, rather than you pushing people away.

And the present is all I can go by, for I am not God. Was Jesus, or even Paul for that matter, always gentle and kind with those who opposed Gospel truth? I seem to recall some pretty harsh words spoken by both here and there...

Why? …because only the Elect will respond to His calling. Right?

I'm always amazed how God's people excuse their behavior.

Jesus is the propitiation for the sins of the world and Isaiah 53 says the chastisement of our peace was upon him, but Jesus says anyone who learns of the Father will come to him and that someone has to be drawn by the Father to come to him.

Like how people know we are to be gracious and loving and exercise mercy. But when someone mentions that punching someone or being rude isn't in keeping with such principles, there is never an admission of guilt, only reasons offered why their behavior is ok in their particular situation.
