Yes.... Australia IS a nation of immigrants, much like the US was.... except, as you noted, Australia was a penal colony...
I would hazard a guess that y'all's crime rate was really not all that bad, until the flood of immigrants that were not anywhere near like the "normalized" Australian citizen.... because as you know, all those immigrants that came to Australia at the start, BECAME Australians.... they were a nation.... made up of different folks whose sum was greater than the individuals.
Now, introduce totally different immigrants..... folks that do not have the desire to become "Australian" ..... and your crime increase happens.
Similar things are happening in the US, but we started out with an ethnic group that, for the larger part, were not allowed to become part of the American culture. After some years of not being allowed to, they have decided they don't WANT to be a part of it. (remember, I am speaking in generalities.... certainly not ALL members of this ethnicity feel that way)
This is where a very large part of our criminal element originates.
Add to that the influx of literally millions of a different ethnicity, of whom many only want to be given free stuff, and have no desire to assimilate into the culture of the US, along with a large percentage who are simply criminals looking for greener pastures.. and you have added a whole new element of crime....

The concept of multiculturalism has been imposed on Australia for the last 50 years or. The government minister behind the move was almost certainly involved with the Mafia. Multiculturalism is a disaster. The best (and much criticised) decision Australia made was to try and prevent illegal immigration. It's easier for us as we are surrounded by the sea. It's been promoted as a life saving measure as many have drowned trying to get here. Sure, but governments have realised that not all who come here are refugees and we need to control our borders. Even our leftist governments have seen the light. Now all we need is to get the courts to wake up as well.

I've heard good things about those Savages and that trigger from those who have owned and sold them.
That light rifle sounds like it fits a good nitch for small game and practice. It shouldn't damage your meat.
If the bullets are cheap, it might be a good one to reload. A pound of powder would last a lot of rounds and I imagine the brass would too.

Someone mentioned the single stage Lee that they used. I ran across this video with a brief demo for anyone interested in reloading. Perhaps this will whet your appetite. If not, then maybe whet your sharpening stone. 😁🔪

It is virtually impossible to reload a rimfire cartridge.
I have watched videos of folks that have worked out a method to reprime the brass, but it's usually only about 80% successful, IIRC...... and it's very labor intensive.
Reloading centerfires is much easier to accomplish.
If someone want's the lower performance of a rimfire, it's usually easy to "load down" a similar centerfire cartridge.
An example.... If I wanted a "reloadable" .22 magnum rimfire, it would be simple to use a .22 Hornet centerfire, and load light loads that would equal the lower powered .22 mag.
