OK, so when a man with little children see his wife get cancer and dies young... are you going to claim God gave her cancer?

Some "christians" actually believe the Lord is going around giving people diseases, car wrecks, having people shot, etc, etc.

That's because they are confusing the Lord with the devil.
I'll give you an example from scripture. Acts 2:23...Jesus was crucified by the determinate council of God and the freewill choice of men.

Interesting that the Prodigal son only THOUGHT he had lost his sonship. He hoped to only come back as a lowly servant.

Of course his father ALWAYS considered him his son, and welcomed him back as one.
The Prodigal son worked his way back to the Father.

Always throwing out the "works" card
This isn't about works. It's also not about not being saved in the first place.
You may not want to admit it, but if one keeps themselves saved by doing or not doing certain things, that is works.
It is trusting in one's own actions, not on the one that saved them.

This is a good question. I've struggled with it some.

I want to be careful not to sweep away all those that believe Jesus and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit is insufficient to keep them saved.

At one time I also believed one could lose their Salvation. Eventually, through the Holy Spirit enlightening the Scriptures, and through more mature brothers and sisters in Christ , I saw the destructive folly that horrible doctrine of losing salvation wrought. Not only in myself, but MANY others.

Was THIS sin it? Had I walked away from Church for too long?
Does my anger, lustful thoughts, lack of help towards others prove that last sin was the one that made me fall away?

Oooh does the Devil revel in a child of God twisted up in their thinking like that! Makes them completely ineffective in bringing others to Christ through The Gospel.

But once the truth was revealed that was all a lie, as completely counter-intuitive to human logic and thinking as it was, this revelation actually set me free to be the Christian God intended!

Sin was greatly reduced as MY effort, and constant looking and thinking about me, and my sin, went away, replaced by looking at HIM, and HIS effort.

My desire to help and love others was greatly enhanced. It's not appropriate to talk about all the works I've done since then, as God alone get's the Glory. But suffice to say, it's been night and day.
Church became a joy, and not a chore. I could go on and on, but you get the picture.

So, just like I'm sure there are some who claim eternal security but haven't truly been born again, there are some who seem to be confused about who exactly keeps them saved, that actually are, but haven't been enlightened to the fact they will ever remain a born again child of God.

That's why I engage in these threads. Some are confused, like I was, and some are wolves, looking to injure the flock.
I have also struggled with this question. It is not for me to judge. No doubt there are some who are truly saved, who begin to question because of Satan putting doubts in their mind or because of some false teaching.
But it does anger me when some post that to believe in eternal security leads one to live in sin or believe there is no consequences for sin.
That is a stupid statement and people that post such things should be treated accordingly.

He needed to return to fellowship with his father.
He never lost his standing as a son.
You believe someone who acted as he did is saved? It's worth considering what the young man was like upon his departure and His return.
The parable has 3 distinct: parts the lost sheep, the lost coin, and the lost boy. And it highlights the role of the Trinity in salvation. The good Shepherd seeks and saves. The Holy Spirit cleans and enlightens. And the Father draws.

To suggest he LOST his salvation (his position as a son) is what you seem to suggest which is wrong.
He did not work his way back, he was welcomed with open arms when he returned.
He lost his fellowship with his father, but not his position as a son.
We all can lose our fellowship and all the blessings that come from our father as a son when we sin, but once we become a son (saved by faith) we are always a son.

So you're with the MASM crowd instead?

"Make America Suck More" View attachment 257804

What happens typically is at the last minutes somebody adds a bunch of extra stuff to a bill that cannot be supported.

You probably don't know of all the garbage they put in to make many of the republicans to vote against it.

And just because the government shuts down due to no budget being adopted, that does NOT mean martial law... so you can take off yer tin foil hat now and quit freaking out in fear! View attachment 257805

First off... the Lord obviously did not support Trump' election bid in 220 and secondly the democrats ARE well on their way to making this country a communist nation by incrementally trashing the Constitution and it's the democrats who will surrendering our national sovereignty to the anti-christ when the time comes and thee mainstream republicanism will do nothing to stop it.

The whole reason they hate Trump so much is because he's NOT a globalist and is FOR the United States first which the democrats see as a threat to their efforts to make this country a communist nation

Bottom line here is the majority of Americans reject Jesus Christ so this nation has forsaken the Lord... so there is no political solution for fixing this nation... we will continue to go downhill and nothing is going to stop it.

Certain sections of the country will do well, but the majority of the country (where liberals rule) will descend in to further chaos.

That's hilarious! There's not going to be martial law if the government temporarily shuts down due to there being no budge in place. That's laughable View attachment 257806
Civil Disorder, typically follows Government shut down for even short periods [we have it on record for all nations]

Social Security Payments, Military Personnel, Lawmakers, many Institutions MILLION's of Citizens count on daily for food and help...ALL just stop payment.

Bills can't be paid, no food on the table, many things come into factor here. and if people are willing to storm Capital Hill (over VOTES)... then during a shutdown, where your money is cut-off, easily can lead to CIVIL DISORDER in a matter of days.

But the biggest issue I have, is cutting off support to both the USA Military and Israel War Efforts. We have American Citizens over there. and we want to CUT their Pay?

if you are MAGA, then your Prophets are Johnny in Florida + the Tennessee Preacher [Greg] who claims WITCHES sit in his Church audience...but...clearly no Holy Spirit is there if your congregation is full of WITCHES and they are COMFY enough to listen to you preach every time the Church doors are open.

^
Yeah, if that is you, which you present yourself as it does....how many WITCHES do you have for friends?

I didn't suggest that at all. He was a natural son. The story was originally told to a Jewish audience. They were all natural sons. They all needed to become supernatural sons...needed to be saved.
By virtue of their race, they considered themselves to be the people of God. And in one regard they were. But within Israel, there was only ever a remnant that were spiritual Israel. Spiritual Israel isn't naturally attained.
But this isn't the focus of the parable. The parable primarily reveals the roles of the Trinity in salvation.

Moses could not talk well,
but God used him for His Purpose
Actually Moses was making a lame excuse, and God was angry with him because of his lame excuses. In any event Aaron would be appointed as the spokesman for Moses: And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Moses, and he said, Is not Aaron the Levite thy brother? I know that he can speak well. And also, behold, he cometh forth to meet thee: and when he seeth thee, he will be glad in his heart. (Exod 4:14). At the same time Moses would address Pharaoh many times.

The idea that anyone who does not hold to "once saved always saved" is always "concerned about losing salvation" is just not so . . .

I do not hold to "once saved always saved" and to be blunt - the idea that I might be losing my salvation is not even on my radar - I have no worries about that at all -- I am absolutely certain and I know that I will never make heaven on my own efforts or abilities -- I NEED NEED NEED the precious Lamb of God and the blood of Jesus and the power of His resurrection! That is my life-line and I am hanging onto that and not letting go! Yell at me, scream at me, threaten me, torture me, kill me -- it doesn't matter - I will not let go of my faith in Jesus Christ.

Now, on the other hand if I accepted OSAS as a doctrinal belief, I fear my assurance of salvation would be greatly affected? Why? Because if I don't do enough good works, or if I start to falter and do some evil works, then my OSAS friends would look at me and say - "Well, he was never saved in the first place!" Hence to keep assurance of salvation I would need to continue in good works.
well, hello, Chester! please forgive me if i offended you? it wasn't intentional.

i don't know your OSAS friends, but i would hope no believer would act in such a manner. shouldn't we observe fruit, rather than works?

i like your second paragraph.
may i suggest that when you were a little boy crossing the street with a parent, you may have thought it was your grip on their hand that was keeping you safe?

it's always a pleasure to see you posting, and an even greater pleasure to interact with you. :)

what is this, golf?!? :p
When we were kids we'd always ask for "do overs".
There was a very complex process that determined if the do over would be granted.
Directly proportional to one's argumentative skills, followed by a promise to reciprocate said do over when your opponent needed one.

Usually the promise was reneged upon later!

First of all, you didn't offend me - I was just trying to clear up a common misunderstanding of those who don't believe in OSAS.

What is interesting is that you still must not get it - because you give another "story" (gripping the hand above) by which I assume you are trying to say that I (or anyone who doesn't hold to OSAS) thinks that it is our grip that saves us. How preposterous!

But that is OK - You don't have to understand - "I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day."

Those who want to keep themselves saved by their own actions (works) have at it.
I will trust in the one who died for my sins to keep me.
They refuse to try to understand what you're saying. I've tried my hardest to lay this out for them and they refuse to have a rational conversation about it. They think we are saved, and that means from now on we are on our own to obey or lose salvation, that we MUST obey. They refuse to understand what we mean when we say after we are saved we WILL obey, by His power, lest we boast. See they teach we have something to boast about because it's our will that sanctifies us. They're on here everyday preaching a works base false gospel that heaps burden on believers and gives them a reason to have their "choice" elevated above His power. The only reason I can think of is that they do not know the power of our God in truth yet. It's sad really.
