At this point, I am thinking that it is a pretty "weak" riddle...
The King of Hearts' home is the deck of cards. In gambling, the King of Hearts can be the difference between losing a hand and winning a hand - some men may lose their homes, whilst others gamble themselves into riches, and presumably, use the money to build another house.
