I understand your point. That 'reading into the text' (eisegesis) is very common. That's why I often direct people to the actual text of Scripture instead of to their interpretation of Scripture.too many people believe he did, but he didn't. They read into the story something that did not happen.

One suggestion I might offer: pick your battles. You aren't going to convince everyone every time, so save your energy for the times when it matters.
He paid the bride's price. For her future care. By the law he had to marry her, IF the father said so. If the father refused, he could tell the guy you cannot marry her. He still had to pay the bride's price.
I found this:
So did Jonah repent? Yes and no. God never said, “Go to Nineveh and preach, and by the way, I want you to have a good attitude about it.” He just said, “Go and preach,” which is what Jonah did. But he never really liked the Ninevites, and he was really ticked at God for showing compassion on them.
Here’s the scary thing. It’s perfectly possible to obey God with a rotten attitude. And God may even bless our obedience just like he blessed Jonah’s obedience. As Paul pointed out in Philippians 1:15-18, some people preach the gospel out of bad motives, but Paul rejoiced that the gospel was preached even out of selfish ambition.
One of the street preachers I follow has this to say.
Before I take anyone's advice when it comes to the Word, I want to know who that person is. I could find very little on this man. But here is a video of his wedding. I'm guessing he's a prosperity preacher. Either way looking at the video, he's not a person I'd be going to for spiritual advice. I'm not into pastors who think they are celebrities.

In one way he did repent, He did the job god asked him to do. He hated doing it, but he did it. god did not require him to do with a joyful heart or to even be happy about it. He is in heaven.I'm a cut to the chase kinda person. Are you saying Jonah is in hell today?! Because if you're not suggesting that, then ol' Jonah made his peace with the Lord before he left earth.
He could walk away if the father would not allow the marriage. He only had to pay the bride's price. He was not put to death like other sexual sins.Right, so he couldn't just walk away. Anything outside of marriage is wrong. Bible makes clear the two become one flesh and that is saved for marriage.

Again, so we are cutting to the chase. Are we arguing for or against sex before marriage? I'm not going to condemn people who fall, and repent. But this touches a little close to home. I have been open about my heartbreak over my young nephew who at 18 got his girlfriend pregnant. This boy is like my own son. And when he asked me if I hated him because of his mistake, I told him I didn't, and neither did God. But now he is working 12 hr days all week preparing for a child. This is his very first job, he has nothing. So we really argue night and day what level of sin it is. And for adults I guess that is their decision to make. But for the youth I believe it's important to make the consequences clear. And if you hold them to a standard, you should be willing to live up to it yourself. I think the Bible is clear, the couple leave their parents, they marry, the two become one flesh.
Let's grab our snorkels and flippers and go spearfishing for some mermaids then!So many times Christians think god will lead them to their spouse. There is nothing in the bible to support this. In fact god makes it clear you decide who you marry.
