Don't worry, I show NO bias here in that I've always hated Salisbury Steak, too!
Yeah, never really cared for that myself, either. Same with open faced sliced beef sandwiches. What's the point? LOL

Gravy on bread so you have to eat a beef sandwich with a knife and fork? That's just wrong.

Sandwich ingredients are supposed to be between the slices of bread.

I didn't want to say anything but I also remember that thread and I stand ready to dredge it up if you start yet another one.
Lynx, if you ARE able to dig up this thread (there are probably a few of them floating around in the Great Abyss of Threads Past,) I wonder if it will be the one in which I think there was someone utterly exasperated by the fact that we managed to have a multi-page thread jut about meatloaf.

And... Looks like we're done fixin' to do it all over again!!! :geek::LOL::cool:

Y’all know we’re eating over here? My goodness, I really didn’t know what I was venturing into whenever I got here. My favorites now are reindeer tongue (and I mean all of it), moose, cod tongues, trout and all that stuff you can get from hunting.

My meatloaf recipe is my burger recipe, and they're both delicious and focused on putting the meat in meatloaf.

I shouldn't laugh but honestly, I had no idea that cod tongues were a culinary staple!
It is, you just roll em up in wheat flour, salt and pepper and then fry them for a few minutes. Tastes delicious.

You think THAT'S bad...

I never even realized that cod HAVE tongues.

I mean, how big can they be?

Would it kind of be like the fishy equivalent of eating chicken wings?

(Do you have to eat an entire bucketful of cod tongues just to get full?)

Or maybe I am just seriously underestimating the size of a cod...

One ain’t gonna feed you for sure.😂 You need at least five, so the chicken wings equivalent would fly nicely.

Kentucky Fried... Cod Tongues???! Sold in a big bucket?

I'm imagining The Colonel is in for some heavy competition.

Only bad thing about cod is that you’re dozing off after eating it.

Oh, that reminds me. Over here cod (not the tongues this time lol) and cod liver is considered a delicacy. And it is. I hardly dared tasting it at first, but whenever I did…it was like soul food…but afterwards you have to lie down lol.

We actually had a whole conversation about this once in our meetup chat group.

For me, the older I get, the less I like meat, and I like it even less in large chunks. I don't know why -- it's a textural issue for me. I find big pieces of meat to be chewy, cord-y (like when you get a bad piece of gristle or tendon,) rubbery, and/or grainy and it makes me a little queasy.

I'm stuck in a Catch 22 (story of my life) because I'm supposed to subsist on mostly protein and low carbs, but the only meat I really like anymore are good old cheeseburgers and deli meat (which is not only supposed to about the most unhealthy kind of meat there is, but it's also way past my price range, at least here in the US.)

So I'm sure people would ask, "Why would you like burgers and not meatloaf?"

I think the thing with burgers is that they're pretty straightforward. Ground beef, shaped into patties with some seasonings, and if I'm lucky enough, thrown onto a charcoal grill, then cooked to perfection.

Meatloaf is not only an unsightly lump, but it's also kind of a who's who, grab-everything-leftover-and-throw-it-right in kind of dish.

Ground beef, pork, sausage, pigeons, and squirrels (with or without tails)? Sure, why not, after all, it's meat, and we need a base!

Then come the fillers... crackers, panko, bread crumbs, oatmeal? Well bless your heart, we need something to hold it all together, all of the above toss them right on in!

Last but not least (and probably the most questionablepart of all,) here come the condiments and sauces: Worcestershire, ketchup, onion soup mix, tomato paste and vinegar...

Look here Ma, you forgot to throw in the kitchen sink, so let's just whirl that in, too! Doesn't it sound utterly delightful?

Maybe this is the reason I've learned to question meatloaf. I have no doubt it can be made good by a number of talented home cooks, especially as a penny-pinching family filler-upper that cleans out the fridge at the same time, but as far as I'm concerned...

Meatloaf is a bit like catfish... A bottom feeder dinner entree where anything and everything can be mixed in and justified, and you never know really know what kind of hodge podge your poor fork is actually touching. o_O
"Catfish is the roach of the river" is my line. Are you copying from me or have you always had this opinion of catfish?

If you have always had this opinion, why did you let me pressure you into trying catfish when you were here? I wondered why you had such a diffident reaction. Usually people love catfish. I'm not too big on it myself, but I thought it was worth a shot to get you to try it.

If you have always thought that about catfish, my apologies.

Nah, he ain’t, cod is a bit harder to come by than chicken lol.
I preferred cod fishing to fishing for salmon... and if I'm having fish and chips? Cod over halibut any day! .:D

Catfish is the roach of the river. I totally agree. Over here those catfish roaches are up to 600 lbs, and pretty much like sharks.
