One time I was at church. I was standing outside the sanctuary, checking my wallet to see if I had enough money to go out to lunch. This guy walks over to me and says, "You shouldn't be counting your money. Remember what happened to David when he counted the people" He was serious, he wasn't kidding. I shook my head and walked away. What would you have done? Just curious.

Yeah, I get it. You're better than everyone else. Tell us something we don't know.

I would have replied it’s not my money, it’s Gods money . But God has placed me in charge of this kingdom money and as a responsible steward of His provision I’m tasked with managing it. A part of managing our gifts from God it is to count, budget, track spending etc.

i'd ask why. then upon hearing his answer, i would politely tell him its none of his business with a fairly long speech. then ask God in the name of Jesus Christ for him to never have contact with me ever.

@ResidentAlien Just a heads up: I reported your reply to JohnB to the moderators. You often reply to JohnB with condescension. It adds no value to the conversation and is not a good look for the forum.

Everything I post deals with issues about the bible and Christians. You sound legalistic, have you read the Epistle to the Galatians?

You should change your moniker to Kaaron 56

Luke 14:28-30
For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has [enough] to finish [it]— lest, after he has laid the foundation, and is not able to finish, all who see [it] begin to mock him, saying, 'This man began to build and was not able to finish'?

If I had the guts I'd tell him to mind his own business, but I'd probably just say "oh ok" and walk away.

that's one of the best answers. i'm not that nice i suppose. beside my answer above, i may choose to delve deeper in the subject & put him on the spot to make him feel guilty.

better to turn the conversation into talking about Christ than to try to shame someone. if we are to be ashamed, let the Truth shame us. if the person should be convicted, let the Truth convict them, not us.

so i like my answer. they cited scripture - answer back with scripture. then we can talk about the things of God and the conversation isn't about me or them anymore, but about Christ, of Whom all scripture testifies, and if any judging is to be done it happens in the heart by the Spirit instead of in my mouth by my own vanity.

easy to talk about ideals lol but what would i really say? another matter entirely as i am less than ideal!

the verses i put did spring to mind immediately but i had to go look up where it was and what it says exactly. i thank God this is all at my fingertips these days with a simple internet search!
so i hope in the situation i would have said "hmm" and pulled out my device, found the verse and read it to them.

I would just go to a church where the word is taught, so that i dont hear such things said.

I agree with that, I went to a church where many of the people did not study the bible. This is why so many Christians fall for false doctrines.
