Okay, but even if it's proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that masks are useless, would you have a problem with someone wearing them as a ... fashion statement?
It HAS been proven that masks are useless.

The Cochrane Study, the largest study to date, the largest in existence on the efficacy of masks to stop viral transmission, was a massive study that collated 78 clinical trials, across multiple countries, with 610,872 participants.
It concluded that masks do nothing.
(In more careful scientific parlance, it concluded there is no evidence that masks have an effect on stopping viral transmission.)

Excerpts:
Regarding surgical masks:
"The pooled results of RCTs (random clinical trials) did not show a clear reduction in respiratory viral infection with the use of medical/surgical masks. "
- No evidence they do anything whatsoever.
Regarding N95 masks:
"There were no clear differences between the use of medical/surgical masks compared with N95/P2 respirators in healthcare workers when used in routine care to reduce respiratory viral infection."
- The N95 mask does no more than the surgical mask... which is nothing.

The Cochrane Study - Link:
It's not much fun to read, but here it is.

With all that said, if somebody still wants to wear a mask around... hey... that's fine with me.

Where I live no one wears a mask so I don't know what you are talking about. I am not happy with the people who are fear mongering and convincing people to wear masks, I am not happy with the government mandating these, I don't care one iota about an adult that wants to wear a mask, that is up to them, but when they impose this on children I consider it to be torture. I was a high school teacher and saw these kids having to wear them for 8 hours straight.
All right, now we're getting somewhere.
You don't have a problem with people's individual choices but you DO have a problem with the government mandates.

What about the second amendment? Ever thought about invoking that on this tyrannical government?
What's your take on that?

Thank you. This is what i'm looking for, before getting into the muddy territories of the technical stuff depending on which team one supports.

I agree a cloth mask is next to useless. It would need to be a real(not knock-off) n-95 mask because it has an electrical charge to catch the particles https://www.wired.com/story/the-physics-of-the-n95-face-mask/
They have done studies and even wearing n-95 did not show any benefit. Yes, it can filter out a virus, but apparently it is unrealistic to think a person goes around all day with that on. I don't know the conditions of the study, but I did note that the people who had worn the n-95 mask showed no decrease in the risk of infection.

I support anyone and everyone's right to bear arms as long as they also are responsible and well regulated as the amendment says. I think we need to enforce the laws we have before worrying about writing new ones.

As for me I am not going to shoot and kill someone in order to save my life. I have chosen to not own a gun or consider using one. I will put my trust in Jesus and in the blood of Jesus.

I've done my own little study on it,,me and my wife have worn them even before C-19(I have no lymph nodes, immune response ect. after radiation treatments) and neither of the two of us have ever caught C-19.

Okay this is a pretty good response which i also like by the way, but it's not an answer to my question.
So the problem is that according to you we have a government forcing us to do things that we don't want to do, like wearing a mask which also kills people.
But this country is blessed like no other nation on Earth because it has a second amendment clause to protect its citizens from a tyrannical government. No other nation thought of this. This idea escaped them.
So the question is why don't we use the second amendment to fight back against this tyrannical government?

Hey Eli, hope you've been well.

I certainly want people to be free to make their own decisions, and wear whatever they want on their own faces.
But ZNP raised some really good points.
He brought up the fact it's actually harmful for children, and I think that's pretty significant.
He also mentioned all the fear mongering, and this has been really detrimental to society as a whole, and everyone's mental health.

I have opinions on lots of things, but I usually keep them to myself until I have some data.
Well, at this point, it seems we have a lot of data.

Take care, and have a great weekend.

side note-

we did not see they heavy handed tactics here that other countries used against their citizens, because the gov. knows it can only push so far, because of the 2nd amend.

So, everything is good then according to you? No problems with anything?
Personally i also think there is no problem either but a lot of people think that there IS a problem with masks and in fact masks are killing people.
So, where do you stand on this?

if anyone wants to wear a mask, then they should.

but, it should not be mandated by a gov.

however, businesses, walmart, grocery stores, have the right to require the customers to wear masks.

it is their store, and if they want all who enter to wear a mask, they 100% can.

I completely agree with this, and this is how things run in USA every day when it comes to private property, businesses, corporations and houses of worship.
I am a true libertarian at heart and above all i respect someone's free will because God chose to respect it so who am i to argue?
The question now is a second amendment question. Since the government is doing as they please with these masks and want to push mandates then why is the second amendment there?
Also, if we are in a libertarian society, which most of the country is because we respect what one does on their own property or how a business runs things or how a corporation runs things or how a church runs things, .... then why do we need the second amendment at all? To protect us from what? We're all libertarians so ...?

First I would like to say thank you to all the posters that said they had no problem with anyone(me.lol) wearing a mask. It made me feel better because I wondered(complex) how others saw me wearing it.

Other than that is this only just about Covid=mask or what if it isn't just Covid? What if some terrorist group is following along with the laws we're passing about this stuff and sneak in and let Ebola or something loose should the government step in and shut off every exit from that city or just let everyone who wants to go on vacation there come and go as they please? It sounds far fetched maybe but if everyone agrees that they cant do certain things to control an outbreak what if small pox breaks out in one of our states? lol, I hope nothing other than Covid breaks out in Texas I can just Imagine Abbott issuing another executive order(mandate) that bars us from closing schools, businesses ect. Anyway maybe it might be a good idea to consider if this is only to apply to Covid because if a meteor hits somewhere other than Texas and an alien life form starts spreading I would feel okay about mask, quarantines, exams and such before entry into Texas...

:D I wear a mask too and i don't wonder what others think of me because i think i look pretty good in it. I like it.
I don't want to discuss any technical reasons here because it depends on which team one is swinging so it's not very fruitful and i wear it cos it looks good on me. Like those people in Japan that the other poster mentioned, who have been wearing them for decades (since late 90s) ... they do it cos it looks cool on them and for no other reason i assume. :D

This is more about some basic principles of free-will, feeling special as a person or as a nation and pointing out some absurdities along the way between sports rivals. :D

I would definitely and unequivocally not advocate a civil war over a mask mandate.

lol, I just thought I might throw that part out because of your question about the 2nd amendment. Maybe not C-19 it seems to not be becoming what they were thinking unless it mutates into a real monster later on,lol.. Anyway some laws, mandates ect. regarding this might just be like walking a thin red line in what we see as rights violations because we may end up forcing something that could endanger us in the future(people walking around with Ebola,Small-pox ect. and no power to stop them)....

Everyone should have learned a lot about how to protect yourself from a viral infection.

1. Eat right, sleep right and exercise.

2. Get plenty of vitamin D

3. Quercetin and Zinc boost your immune response to a virus.

4. Wash hands and social distance help.

5. HCQ is very effective when you first feel you are coming down with something. Works against any and all viruses.

6. Ivermectin helps if you do get sick from a virus, any virus.

Very well-said my friend. So, this means that we need to do some vocabulary adjustments on word choices on how we call this mask topic then, you agree?

For example, we might not want to compare it to Afghanistan? Or use choice words like "death", "evil", "cancer" etc etc?
What do you think about that?

I think a mask mandate as a fashion choice is definitely analogous to the Taliban.
