I had to just smile and nod blankly at most of what you said, from hiking to putting turmeric in tea. "I have no idea what you're talking about boss, but I'm glad you're happy."

Hiking does seem to be popular with guys these days though, so you'll probably find some other people to talk to here.

It must be extremely popular because women keep on telling me to "TAKE A HIKE!" Women are kind that way. You know, by trying to keep me engaged in what is trending.

So far, we have heard from 5 men and 2 women, and I actually expected the imbalance between male respondents and female respondents to be much greater than it currently is.

I do have a theory as to why more women have not yet responded here...

I am thinking that in their haste to jam my resume into the nearest paper shredder, some of them may have accidentally cut off the tips of their fingers, and, therefore, they are currently unable to type out their responses here.

Just give them some time to heal...lol.

Nah. They're just taking some time to formulate a reply. It's only been one day. Give them two more days and then they'll post a four page essay.

Or at least that's how some women I know work.

The word shipping makes me cry. At work we deal with a lot of freight and LTL trucking companies, and that industry is a hot mess right now. Especially after the collapse of YRC.

I think, at least for me, this site is hard to make true friends on. Not being able to DM someone for a friendly chat unless you pay up is a hinderance.

All joking aside, the $24 investment is well worth it. Since I became a paying member, I have had a lot of very good conversations with three different people here through private messaging, and I truly have made at least two new friends. Probably three new friends, but I take a little getting used to...lol.

Many of us were grandfathered in. We were here when private message was free, and they just never did switch us over I guess.

Quote someone's comment, like I just did with yours, to get their attention. Then ask if they can start a PM with you. Maybe they can't, but maybe they can, and the worst that can happen is they'll say they can't.

I hear you, but the other side of that coin is this:

If you did have the option of private messaging, and if you did make some real friends who were worthy of your time and effort, then it would be a very worthwhile investment.

At my end, I did not become a paying member solely for the hope of making friends here who I could talk privately to. To be quite honest, my primary reason for becoming a paying member is because I totally disagree with a lot of what is said in the Bible Discussion Forum (and elsewhere, at times), and I wanted a way to be able to possibly engage certain people privately in God-centered or Bible-centered conversation without all of the "background noise" being generated by wannabe theologians. Hey, I am just being honest.

Anyhow, it depends on what you are looking for here. To my knowledge, which is admittedly limited, the only way to engage people here in conversation without a bunch of undesirables butting in is through private messaging. I truly have had many great and fruitful conversations with certain members here through the same, and those conversations would have been neither great nor fruitful if they had taken place in the public forums. Also, a lot of people simply are not going to open up about private things or struggles they are facing in the public forums. Again, it depends upon what you are looking for here. To some extent, I have found exactly what I was looking for here, and I found it primarily through private messaging.

I’m not going to name any names, but I see HEAPS of biblical illiteracy and bad theology on this site.

Same here.

At the same time, there are several people here whose hearts, minds, and theology are in the right places, but good luck having a conversation with any of them in the public forums without a swarm of figurative buzzards, vultures, or what I recently called "gatekeepers", descending upon you.

If I recall correctly, then you stated on one thread that you are looking for relationships where "iron sharpens iron". Those types of relationships are more likely to be found and maintained privately than publicly. Again, there are too many contentious people here who seemingly have the inability to just mind their own business, and they inevitably muddy every conversation that they jump into.

Anyhow, I do not what to derail this thread, but, to bring it back to its actual topic, the possibility certainly exists to develop some sort of guy/girl relationship here as well, and that possibility increases if the two parties can converse privately. Again, the average person is not going to bare their heart openly on a public forum. In private? You would be surprised what you can learn about people, and I am not just talking about some sort of guy/gal relationship now. In other words, there are people here, right on this website, and I know because I have conversed with them privately, who are going through all sorts of horrific trials and tribulations, and I am thankful to God for the opportunities to hopefully minister to them.

Back to "shipping"...

Yeah, I was surprised to see Yellow fold. That company has been around for years. I guess shippers are scrambling to find alternate trucking.

Someone could though initiate the conversation and then you would be able to participate. Actually, I met my wife on this site who is also a member in 2014 and were married later that same year.

That reminds me, and this is indirectly related to the theme of this thread: Like George, I once tried "Oppositism". I shall elucidate.

I was homeless back in 2018. In a Subway restaurant one afternoon, I saw a very attractive Latin-American woman sitting by herself. Taking George's lead of going up to the hot blonde at the counter and saying, "Hi. My name is George. I'm unemployed and live with my parents," I went over to this lady's table and said, "Hi, my name is Keith. I'm unemployed and living on the charity of friends. And, I think you're a very beautiful lady." Unlike George, I got ignored. But man, that felt good :LOL::D
